(RP) Our new King - The first test?

Following last nights meeting with our new King regarding the situation in Skara Brae. It would seem that our King lacks the incisiveness required of a monarch. Before he was crowned the Kingdom was in turmoil and unrest common. However now we have a King citizens with a grievance should petition the King for a resolution. The situation in Skara is clear enough, some residents led by Edith are in open rebellion, A King CANNOT allow this, this is TREASON.

Treason is the ultimate crime in a monarchy leading as it can to Civil War and the destruction of the Monarchy itself. The argument last night seemed to be that the poor citizens of Skara and Edith were just misguided individuals who had strayed from the path. Nothing could be further from the truth thay are in fact TRAITORS maybe misguided but they made their own decisions to join a rebellion, nobody forced them.

Once the King was appraised of the facts he should have ordered that they be brought before him, in chains, to answer for their crime. Instead he allowed himself to be swayed by others into simply stating he would order Edith and Kyrian before him to explain their actions.

So Kyrian, who as Leader of the Rangers, took over governorship of Skara when Edith went missing and tried to keep the colony running smoothly, leader of the long established Guild of Rangers is treated in the same fashion as Edith, a Mayor, elected by bribery, instigator of rebellion, associate of Koba and a traitor.

We are a monarchy NOT a Democracy, the King is responsible for what decisions are made once he learns the facts. In this instance he appears to have allowed himself to be influenced by the opinions of others rather than what was quite obviously the right course. I am with the Sultan, the rebellion should be suppressed by whatever means necessary, allowing unpunished treason is not an option. Treason requires swift, decisive and immediate action anything less demonstrates vacillation.

So if last night is to be taken as the first measure of our new Kings attributes in my estimation he failed the test. The argument will be that he acted in a humane and thoughtful manner but Kingship, whilst embracing these virtues, requires a King to consider much more and to make harsh unpopular decisions on occasion for the good of the people and the realm as a whole.

The inhabitants of Skara who are parading around shouting 'Down with King Blackthorn' are in doing so committing High Treason (disloyalty to the Crown) considered the most serious of offences, high treason is often met with extraordinary punishment because it threatens the security of the state. In my humble opinion simply calling the leader of the offenders in to talk about it belittles both the threat to the realm and the King himself and certainly does not show decisiveness on his part.

It would appear that our King has reconsidered somewhat and at least taken a step in the right direction. He has acknowledged the actions of Kyrian by officially appointing him temporary Mayor of Skara Brae.

He has also ordered that two of the rebels leaders namely, Edith and Rob Spear be arrested for their crimes, He should be reminded however that the actual leader of the rebellion Koba is still at large and no order has been made for his arrest.

With regard to the citizens who are participating in the rebellion they are to be told that if they lay down their arms they will be pardoned??????. This decision smacks of insecurity almost bribery. A Kingly order, in my opinion would have been 'Lay down your arms or your life is forfeit'. Again the argument will be that he is following one of the Virtues, Compassion. Indeed he is, but what about another virtue? Justice. Crimes should be punished, Compassion would be shown by letting the offenders live, Justice by punishing them.

So if a citizen commits a crime, he is not to be pursued and punished because they are 'still my citizens' what crimes fall under the aegis of this stipulation - Murder? Theft? Piracy? The sailors on the pirate ships near Jhelom will be overjoyed they are citizens from various towns in the Kingdom.

Let us be absolutely clear here, rebellion against a Kings rule is High Treason. This is a Capital crime. Compassion would allow a lesser sentence but some sentence there should be. To simply say 'Oh you have been a naughty boy don't do it again' does not reflect the seriousness of the crime. A King who takes this stance is a weak King.

Dear Lord Bobar,

While I am personally a little bit less harsh towards people that have ambitions for independence or express criticism towards the ruling monarch, I agree completely that the situation in the city of Skara Brae could have been dealt with in a more direct manner and that Edith and Rob are indeed traitors to the realm. Striving towards independence is one thing, but trying to accomplish this through criminal and unvirtuous acts, namely rigging elections and plotting to murder political rivals, is unforgivable and should be dealt with swiftly and harshly. These are not peaceful citizens that are a little bit astray that we are talking about here, they are criminals, scoundrels and murderers that engage in practices that have no place in this realm. To ignore their acts is to put the realm and its citizens at peril, as these are serious threats that aren't just going to disappear if we ignore them.

The ignoble people that follow these traitors should be notified of the crimes their leaders have committed, and any that continue to stand by their side after that should be considered accomlices of these crimes and treated accordingly.

It was indeed heartening to see the citizens of the Realm gather to accompany the Sultan to Skara to attempt to arrest Edith and Rob Spear. Following them finally revealed both in their true colours and their hiiden self to be something certainly not human. They have both paid the ultimate price for their crimes so they can now be discounted as to any continued involvement with the rebellion in Skara Brae.

It should be noted therefore that the current situation there is still the same. Barriers are still up and rebellious citizens still evident in the streets. The faction banners are still prominent on the buildings and the Town Hall still burns. While this situation prevails Kyrian will be unable to fully carry out his duties. As Edith and Rob are now numbered among the deceased, are we to assume that the rebellion is still being fueled and promoted by Koba?. He is the last known prominent member of it, indeed he is the leader. Our new King appears to have taken no further interest in the situation which is regrettable. Koba lives and apparently rebellion still ferments.

Dear Lord Bobar,

Unfortunately this good news had not reached me. The actions of the citizens of the Realm are indeed highly commendable.

If there are indeed entities that assume human form and instigate rebellion to weaken us all, then it is all the more reason for us to stand united and deal with these entities as swiftly as possible. These are no simple disgruntled citizens that can be reasoned with, they are likely from beyond sosaria. Their insidious actions so far are acts of war that cannot go unanswered. We know from the many invasions in the past how dangerous it can be to underestimate these threats and ignore them for too long. Chasing down Koba, should be a priority, especially if we can find a way to capture him alive so we can learn more of the true nature and goals of these entities.
