I finally got my IOU check from the state of OHIO.

I go to my banking/credit union institution to cash & deposit said check from Ohio. NO issues with em since 1972.
Yesterday with them was NOT a good day !!

Teller #38 tells me: We can not cash out of state checks that large of an amt. unless it is a GOVT. or STATE check.

I say...DOH.......L@@k at it...great seal of the state of OHIO is ON it and it's really some large of amounted check, anyways...cuz it is $750.22. Big Seal of Ohio with all their watermarks on it too, are .. a big clue IF YOU LOOK at it. It is officially a Govt. state of OHIO check.

She looks at it...decides it is legit, and goes to deposit my $750.22 into my acct.

EXCEPT......it lands into another customer's acct. for when she gives me my receipt it is made out to ...someone else's acct., getting MY $ 750.22. The name and acct. number which she put my deposited check into, are not even remotely close, in numbers nor name, to have been some typo !!

I become quite aggitated and upset for her error, cuz she just sent my $750.22 into, someone else's acct.

A bit later on then she can not seem to get it out of stranger's acct. to put it back into mine where it belongs at all and I am told that *I * am to call the main office in Minnesota for some head hauncho up there, to help correct her...mess.

I kept saying what if this person YOU sent my $750.22 into their acct. has already seen the windfall and has spent it ?? How ya gonna cover your ERROR THEN HUH ? And why do I have to call the main office, when it is YOU whom just fkd up ??

We are FDIC insured she says, we will cover our error, please calm down, she said. I'm not appeased by her comments one bit.

After about 2 hrs....she said she can manage to put the $750.22 from Ohio, to me, back into another acct. I have with them, which share jointly with my husband rather than the acct. of mine it was supposed to go into, and she asked me .. if that will be ok with me.

I told her WT ?? WHATEVER I will take my money, deposited into whichever one of my two accts. with yall, that you manage to correctly, PUT my money into !!!

She finally correctly achieves the goal of withdrawing her error of my money from customer whomever's acct., that she messed up putting it into; and then deposited MY Ohio check into one of my two accts. with them.

So, I drive home & recheck all the receipts and I find she also GAVE ME an entire paycheck of $956.47 belonging to yet another of their customers undeposited yet signed/endorced to go into the acct of customer whomever, and strewn in with my receipts.

I call to tell her she just screwed up again with yet another customer. So she wants me to bring customer 3's paycheck back to her.. I said hell no YOU come fetch it had enough of you and that bank today. She got lost coming over here...3 main streets & one side street from the bank and she got lost !!

She called me from Subway lost saying 'come find me and give me the other customers check.' I do do that !! She is lucky I did not buy a footlong at that subway and bash her over her head with it !! :talktothehand:

UNREAL

Teller #38 incompetent twit EPIC^ FAIL 3x in one morning just with ONE transaction messin me, and 2 other customers accts. along with it, all at once !

Head office in Minnesota, called me to apologise to me saying I am a valued customer since 1972 & they would hate to loose me...asking, 'what would you like us to do to try to make up for this ! ? '

I said FIRE TELLER #38 Memphis Tenn. branch xyz and SEND all my monies from both my checking and savings acct. into the mail to me ASAP...total withdrawl... loss of customer.Sorry I have had no issues with yall since 1972 either. But this is utter incompetence by teller #38. Do ya think yall can you all manage...to do this closing of my acct. and sending me the all the thousands in money from my checking and savings acct. to me APAP, and do it... correctly ?

I was told my check is ...in the mail !! I will believe it when I see it !!

Yesterday was NOT a good rl day. Sorry for my long rant... but

Nice.

Tell them to send you a microwave or toaster that they give to new accounts and you will remain a loyal customer, this way you get compensated for the time lost and inconvenience they put you through.

What a pity to read this as you always seemed like a genuinely nice person ingame and on the boards, but now appear the complete opposite in real life.

So one mistake in all those years and that is the end. I guess you never had a job or made a mistake a single day if you did.

Poor teller #38 and shame on you!

Having a bad day at Subway is forgivable. You can just go get another sandwich.

Some jobs should not tolerate "bad days".

A "bad day" for a teller can result in somebody not being able to afford food, or rent, or insulin. Or even worse, somebody could be unable to afford hookers and blow.

The teller gave her almost a thousand dollars of somebody else's money, after depriving her of a little under the same. If she hadn't noticed either one of the mistakes, that's potentially life-ruining.

This reminds me of an experiance I had some years ago. My statement came in the mail and there was a deposit that I had not made into my acct. It was for a very large sum of money. It really looked nice on my balance sheet but it was not mine so I contacted the bank to inform them of their screw up.
To make a long story short, it took a lot of my time and about 3 weeks for the bank to fix their problem. It really irked me off as the bank should have just taken care of this after I called them to inform them of their major mistake. I allways wonder if they would have even caught it if I had not called them.

750 dollars check is big? The only time i ever had problem cashing a check was when the check was over $10,000 on a Friday night. they told me i was suppose to call for money in advance so they could order enough.

Aye Spree 750 is no big check anyhow and it WAS from the STATE of OHIO too.

And before yall condemn me to hell for being MEAN at teller #38, what you were not told is, this acct. was originally MINE with my mother's as her power of attorney to handle all her bills, her nursing home care, her funeral and her everything.

She died in 2005. That acct. was then LEGALLY turned over to me solely with all the correct bureaucratic paper work to show mom was deceased and I was her heir...and also still her power of attorney *for any bills or whatevers that may yet show up ages even after her death. And, they removed mom's name from it after she died correctly so but with every bank takeover merger the info all got messed up again and I would have to jump thru hoops every time to get stuff straightened out every time...that is 4 bank take overs this past 5 yrs. on that one acct.

And since 2005 *our* acct. has undergone 4 bank mergers/takeovers and with EACH bank takeover merger information/legal papers/computer data was LOST. I had to produce ALL the information with EVERY merger these past 5 yrs. to get the bank whatever name it called it self this year to get their paper work corrected AGAIN AGAIN !

Then the local branch closed HERE...again they lost data and funds both.

Somewhere along the way the State of OHIO got $750.22 and were looking for the living heir of my deceased mom. They found me.

Course I had to once again jump thru every legal hoop to prove I WAS whom I said I was ...and that mom was ...and died and her heir according to her own will is ME !

OHIO requested my birth certificate/driver license/marriage certificate/passport info/ local bank ID info/ tax returns with my name on them/ and then provide copies of my mothers death certificate/her power of attorney papers/copies of her will/ and even give them the cemetary plot she is buried in and wanted my fingerprints too...all then to go to a Notary Republic office HERE to notarise so that OHIO could send me that check.

I sent the state of Ohio all the required data last April...they told me it could take them 90-120 days to VERIFY all that info they requested and IF it all was OK they would send me that check of $750.22.

It came this friday...so I go to MY bank to deposit it...5 yrs. of bank mergers/mom dying/ jumping thru legal hoops of states and banks only wishing one fine day maybe I finally have some CLOSURE regarding my mom's death and me being her power of attorney and heir...so I can FILE all this paper work one final time ...and maybe rediscover my OWN identity not lost in the nightmare of being my mother's power of attorney thru bank mergers bank takeovers and State bureacracies...finally maybe it be OVER WITH !!

And..I see that 5 yrs long battle of one last bit of *data* that was forever PROVING to OHIO that I was whom I said I was...suddenly end up deposited by teller #38 into some strangers bank acct. within a nanno second of time of yet, another banking ERROR !

So I got ANGRY and also ended up a pool of tears all over their bank floor.. call me MEAN I call me.....trying to put my mother to rest and wishing to get my *own* life back to some NON ERRORED nightmare of correct banking happening for me, as I have had to live thru with everything, going wrong in banking errors, regarding her and me for the past 5 yrs with both BANKS and STATES ! All I wanted, is to put the nightmare of paperwork BEHIND ME and have it done RIGHT, just...once !

 Banks are insured. They mess up, you still get your money back. Seems like a lot of wee-wee and vinegar over an issue that was not life threatening. If I was teller #38, I'd have told you to **** off, threw your **** at you and walked out. But that's just me and I hate people.

**Edit** That said, I'd probably have closed my accounts with said bank later. I just wouldn't have shown my ass to the entire bank.

You need to dump the bank. When a bank had gone though mergers they don't care about their customers anymore. Find a local bank with just a few branches. Big banks just try to find ways to hit you more with charges. Go to a small bank where they know you by name and everyone isn't being fire or transferred on a daily basis

The girl does not deserve to lose her job over it. That being said, I have had my fill of medical offices not filing insurance properly this year. I have had to do more battling this year to get claims payed and or properly submitted than I ever had to. Matter of fact I used to not ever have to worry about anything in regards to such issues other than paying for the insurance and covering the co-pays. Now it's like pulling ****ing teeth.

I understand your frustration, and someone making mistakes at a McDonalds with your change is one thing, but cmon your bank? So you caught her 750 and 950 dollar mistake. If she makes this type of mistake simply in one day how many has she made in the past that havent been caught. And like Wulf said we don't know everyones personal lives, what if you needed food, diapers, medicine etc, then you are what screwed? Ok lets just let miss 38 slide and oh also lets just let that Dr who injected you with morphine that you are highly allergic too, but when you go into cardiac arrest and die its ok, ppl make mistakes. He just read a bottle wrong and miss 38 just entered a name wrong, right? Actions have consequences

So the lady getting flustered by the mean old woman yelling at her is akin to a doctor killing someone? God I'd hate to deliver a pizza to you with the wrong toppings on it. It's jackasses yelling about stupid things that make me glad I'm not in retail or the service industry.

No I'm saying I understand her frustration knowing the whole story. But each and every situation like this has its own consequences don't you think? At best the ladies job performance seriously needs to be reviewed. I don't think her actions should just be brushed off as an oh well "oops", sorry. My point is that most ppl have a certain amount of trust or expectation of compentancy from individuals at per say their bank or Dr's office vs like I said McDonalds. Why are you taking this so personally? It's just a discussion about an incident in her life.

If you deliver the wrong pizza to me. You will hear about it. I will not blame you. You will hear about it.

If you deposit my money in someone else's account. Yeah... You will defiantly hear about it. I will blame you.

If you are a doctor that kills me... Well. I guess you won't hear about that. My kids might have something to say.

The truth is business is business and if an employee is causing the said business to lose money by running off loyal customers then a business man (manager of the bank) would make the business decision to fire teller #38. She may be an awesome person but if she continues to cost the business money then she has to be fired. It's not personal it's just business. The truth is nobody cares if teller #38 had a bad day or not, all they care about is the well being of the company and making money. Sure it sounds cold and mean but it is what it is....it's just the way life is.

I guess I take it personally because I hate asshats. I see so many people who blow things so far out of proportion and what does it solve? Why does showing your ass make you (not YOU you, just generalizing) feel better about yourself?

It's like people get off on belittling others just to make themselves feel better about themselves. Not saying OP did this but it sure sounds that way to me and it just happens to be a pet peeve of mine having working in retail for my first few jobs.

This lady screwed up. When she has to explain her actions (which she will due to the "home office" getting involved) she'll face whatever consequences the bank deems worthy. She eff'd up, OP caught it and it's done. No one died so why be a pancake about it? Call it out, go home, fire up the computer and open a new account at another bank. If you're feeling really spunky, when you close your old account fill in the "Why are you closing your account today?" section with "Teller #38 is dumb". Done.

Queenie i know your upset but your frustration was definitely misplaced. Yes the teller made a mistake, but it sounds like you took out your frustration at the multi billion dollar banks on some low level employee that is lucky to be getting 10 bucks an hour.

Being a teller in this economy should pay danger pay. They are not the ones who are for closing on people's houses, they are not the ones who caused people to lose their jobs and now they are late on their bills, yet they are the banks first line of defense and get the customer's animosity.

i really hope for that teller's sake your blow up at her mistake did not cost her that jobs because trying to find a job in this economy is like trying to find a virgin in a *****house, few and very far between.

Castor, my husband since 1971, compares this sometimes unpredictable reactions in me when they hit, as a form of emotional bureacratic *post traumatic stress syndrome*, of being/feeling still held hostage to the past, with being their mother's legal power of attorney, still dealing with errors and bureacracy going over 5 yrs long still after her death, which never seems to end, and all one hopes for is closure... & without any more errors.

He knows me better than anyone.

Teller #38 IS still there.

OUR main banking accts. with that bank have been 3, his/hers/ours. Two of those remain with that bank [atm], only my acct. was closed with them.

I doubt they will fire her, home office is whom I said [via their phone call to me]that I felt that she needs to be fired, but chances are Minnesota does not control whom is fired or hired or kept or let go, in their Tennessee branch office bank, anyhow.

Yet if she would continue making customers bank accts. errored,
costing the bank their customers, or costing some customer too much,
then as Cheapy said
chances are she will become too large of a risk for any financial banking institution, to keep her employed with them.
---------------------------------

Mods, just bury this thead, entirely, if ya can.
I should not have even posted here at all. I apologise.

I feel your pain.

Having worked in banking, I can officially say....some people are just too darn stupid to be tellers. I can tell you I had to stay late about 75% of the time because at least one of my tellers couldn't balance her drawer at the end of the day.

I can also tell you, that these things usually work themselves out. If she keeps screwing up like this, she won't be working there much longer. At our place, if your drawer came up over $20 off three times you were sent packing. With these kinds of mistakes, her days are numbered.

Sucks that you had to be the one this happened to. I do know that when we made any kind of an error, there was a super human effort put forth to fix it, and that effort escalated if someone was really mad about it. Of course, I worked for a Savings & Loan, not one of these huge banking monsters that are gobbling up all the little ones now. There was never a "you need to call the home office to fix this yourself".

Those were the days of actual customer service. We had to know people's names and greet them when they walked in the door. Heck, I'd even sit down with customers and balance their checkbooks!

Anyway, good luck with your future banking endeavors.

How did you get a picture of the guy that tried to help us with our lost bank teller trying to assist her.. to find the state of Mississippi south from the state of Tennesee.

He often hangs out at the intersection of AIRWAYS BLVD. and Shelby Drive by the bank and airport up there, to assist folks by pointing SOUTH for them to find Mississippi, just 1 mile south of Memphis International Airport.

Sometimes he can be found at the intersections of STATELINE RD. and HWY 51 S/N either pointing folks up north to Elvis' Graceland or south the state of Mississippi !

Folks get so confused here on this borderline, sometimes but that guy is very reliable to pointing folks the correct way to turn on the few intersecting well know streets down here that either take one up north 2 blocks into Tenn. or south and down 2 blocks into Miss. :)

He is a very very busy man we oft invite him over for bbq ! Although I think that both state hwy. govts should give that man extra hazzard pay for being our directional sign pointer for Tenn. and Miss. residents as oft as he works so hard out here in very busy well known intersections.

Without him oft standing precariously with signs, at busy intersections here.. well maybe all of shelby and desoto county residents, would remain nothing but... lost peeps !
