OT: Where does your character name come from?

Hi All,

I thought it would be interesting to learn how each of you came about naming your own UO characters (or err.. board name if you do not wish to discuss your actual game character names for privacy reasons... :)).

Some players have some creative, punny names out there that I think are hilarious when I walk by them in game. :) Well, with the exception of Playboy, Inc., which I thought would be a cool crafter's name, I based most of my other character names/personas from characters of Piers Anthony's Xanth novels.

(Note: I don't recommend reading his recent works. I think he's gone a bit senile with his writings. :\)

So what's the story behind YOUR characters/board names? :)

Hmm... too many characters to list out:p

Gellor = character from old Gord the Rogue series by Gary Gygax:thumbsup:
Reebdoog = npc name for a char that was supposed to be a temp char. Go figure, he's been on half dozen shards now:next:

Balian came from that movie with the stryder dude who finds out his father is a duke/lord something or orther and then he goes and kicks some arse in the holy wars

"Kingdom of Heaven" its a great movie, check it out if you havn't seen it already.

My very first character created in Pacific was named "Mistique". At the time I was ten and I enjoyed thinking up weird stories and named her after a character I enjoyed writing about. Ten years down the road, I wish I could change her name but I realize that would really mess up guild fiction.
My other characters were also named by me when writing fiction- Jakubo Ishikawa and Epiphany. There's really no lore to their name or any rhyme or reason. It just is.
I wish I could go in and give them better names now with meaning.

Well....when I first started, my first character was

Xan - named after the priest/mage from Farscape although she spelled it Zhann
Luna Rossa - was named after the first red wine my husband and I made and I like the translation "Red Moon"
Water Sprite - was named from the movie Sabrina where she talks about the water sprite
Absinthe - who was originally a necromancer, was named so due to the toxicity of Absinthe
Prairie Fire - was named thus as she was originally to be my PvP character and I wanted something that was dangerous and anyone that has ever lived on the prairies knows how nasty a prairie fire can get

and lastly Akai - this was to be my samurari assassin, akai is red in japanese I believe so she would have be "red samurai but she did not make it to become this and is now my personal chef/alchemist.

Back in '98 a friend and I made two thief characters, his was Rob and mine Andsteel. I decided it was too obvious to be Andsteal ... hence, as a duo we were Rob Andsteel.

Assia Penryn (first name pronounced ah-see-ah)

Assia means caretaker of horses and is of Arabic origin... I used to ride Arabian horses quite regularly at a local stable at the time I first made her. The stable was in a small town outside of Sacramento called Penryn.

Me personally, I try not to borrow from other sources. I want my characters to be unique to the setting (Ultima).

Kaleb was named after my first son. the rest were random mostly out of my guitar mags, or musician's friend catalog just open a page randomly place finger on a word if it didnt fit a name back to step one.

Thx to everyone else's replies to this thread, too! I always see a lot of you posting on Stratics and have always wondered how you all came up with your board/character names. :)

No, Rob quit UO in 2001. I think of the original Trinsic gang of '97/'98 only Tiffahus and I still play. My main was/is Penelope - my rl name.

Graham is my RL Scottish clan name. Connor is just a name that I've always liked, and would have been my son's name if he hadn't turned out to be 2 daughters instead. :D

I try to mix mine up from different resources.

Grizzy Adams- I grew up watching this show on TV and was my fovorite show for years. This is my tamer. When I think of a tamer or just the word tame I think of him first.

Dar Quickarrow- Dar comes from a character in the movie The Beastmaster. One of my all time favorites. Last name Quickarrow...just used a roleplaying type name for the elf class, plus this character is a archer.

Mozart- Self explainitory for its name for a Bard.

STORM- My mage/fencer. Just like the name from X-men buff. Im a heavy Wolverine and X-Men comic book collector.

LITTLE JOHN- My first char. Was thinking along the lines of Robinhood and medievil times to go along with the game. This was in 1999.So it was old school thoughts back then. He was a Warrior(fencing).

Jimmy Choo- My Tailor. Wanted a fashionable name for armor making. My wife said he is world renowed famous designer in real life. She said mainly shoes..

Technically, Little John should be a macer since his primary weapon was a quarterstaff.....:D

Yeah I started him out as a macer with a quarter staff..but soon found out that was a waste of time if I wanted to stay alive.

Swifty- pvp with a buddy in wow for a long time made some sick pvpvids on youtube.
Xrave- my old shammys name from wow (made a pvp vid for him on youtube) oldschool.
prodigiy- just random
Grambo- RL name graham and friends called me grambo (also got from wow also pvpin and never dying :p)

This is a character out of one of my favorite anime/manga Trigun. E-G Mine was actually a terribly weak guy in the manga, and when I played Final Fantasy 1 a while back, that's what I named my Black Mage.
Then I started UO, and I made a mage. So he became E-G Mine.

Buds Mcnuds
Me and a couple friends talking about bs. I made up this name and decided I would make a UO character out of it. Buds Mcnuds is now a very successful thief on chesapeake. i love the name personally.:coco:

I've always wondered if the Penryn in your name was after the Penryn in this area!

Pyros Darkblade - I just thought it sounded good. He was my Fencer.
Mathias - My Mage/Bard/Tamer, again the name just fit with what he was going to be.

Bud Weiser - *shrug* I was trying to come up with a funny thief name and it just happened to be there beer I was drinking at the time.

Scratch was a char that I made on my second acct in UO, at which time I was rebuilding my dexxer from ......scratch.

Frizzman was an irl nick given to me by our drummer after turning him onto a Primus album.....Frizzle Fry.....It was later shortened to Frizz and still holds today after 12 yrs.

Mint Spaghetti and Squirrely Wrath were both taken from Foamy videos......

Reebok was changed to Mrs. With Arrows after switching from archery to swordmanship.

omg i have so many chars but im a s top there....
