OT...Skylark... I found my kitten

It will only have three legs. She lost a front leg in some sort of horrible deal. I will also get another kitty because they like company. Gimpy's stitches come out in a week. Yes. The vet initially wanted to put it down.

My daughter found it and insisted it be saved. She paid vet bills out of pocket. I promised to reimburse her. She also promised to write it on the calender and get the shots and get them fixed on my dollar.

It took a while... But I found the kitty that needs a home.

It will be funny to watch it hop around. Be happy and purr.

I had a 3-legged cat when I was a kid. His name was Pooky. He was a tough cat, surviving amputation of one of his front legs, as well as feline leukemia (back before there was a readily available vaccine). He lived 12 years after the amputation surgery...I finally had to have him euthanized when he developed cancer. An amazing lifespan I think, considering what he had to overcome.

I hope you, and your daughters have many happy years with your new kitty.

My brother was gonna get a kitten with a neurological problem that impared his motor skills, but his Landlady changed her mind the day before and said if he got the kitten, he had to move out. He had nowhere to go, so he couldn't get the kitten...

And my parents had a manx kitten that was rescued by friends from the side of the road in Virginia. He was the sole survivor of a litter left in a box at the side of the road, and we named him Fury. Unfortunately, having not been properly diciplined when they were weaning him, his personality fit his name to a T. We had to euthanize him after about a year because he was to dangerous to keep... Sad because he could be a right angel when he wanted to be. Not to mention his habit of falling asleep and falling off the window sill repeatedly was just to cute.

*smiles* The mother was a feral cat tamed by my daughters. Only three of the eight kittens survived. No one knows how 3/4 lost her leg. Could have been a million things. I suspect an inadvertent dog nip. There are a couple of house dogs there but they are really good with cats... Kittens... they are not so tough.

Odd thing is, 3/4 was due to get the stitches out today. Apparently she pulled them her self as there were none left.

Cudo's to you Kelmo, I love kitties. Our cat just had another batch about 4 weeks ago. Everytime I make an appt at the vet to get her fixed she "somehow" gets out while she is in heat. My kids swear they would never let her out so that they could just have kittens running around the house!
I hope she lives a long happy life with you and your girls.

It is good to make a home for lil lost foundlings all they want is some love, a caring human and some kibble.

It begins as a normal day. Off to work, I gotta keep the internetz on and the kitties fed. Ten some odd hours later... Yes, there are that man dishes, I return and do a head count. One seems to be missing. So I do a leg count, 8 legs! Where is 3/4? A quick search yields no results.

Hmm... No way to get out of the house. I try to isolate snake food and dog chow (tentative names) and turn everything off to listen. Room by room I search and listen...

In the kitchen... a muffled mew? *listens carefully* Under the sink... I open the cabinet and there is a likely looking hole. The drain pipe runs though it.

Damn... Where is that flash light? By calling and walking between the kitchen and laundry room I figure the cat has crawled about 8 feet back from the hole below the sink... (kitty go down the hole)

I am fearful 3/4 has gotten herself in a bind. She may be in a spot that three wheel drive can not get her out of. What to do? Wait it out?

*sighs* I need help. I call a daughter to bring me a pry bar. I get both daughters and my ex wife... (talk about overkill) The only thing better would have been my son showing up with his climbing gear and a chain saw. *shakes head*

We mull it over and decide on a course of action. To digress a bit this house is solid. All wood and or brick, even on the inside. There is one piece of sheet rock. Fortunately that one piece is located in the utility room where most of the piping is.

We punch a small hole. Well, I tried to pry the whole thing out. The ex wife punched a small hole. Five seconds later out pops a cat. She looks around and walks away. Like she was thinking, "what? so you have never gotten lost under the sink?"

I think I hate cats...

Well my shelties lacking good sense would probably bark at your dog anyway, thinking they are so baad ! They might loose to a chow akita mix though.

Kelmo kittens and puppies are like having an infant all over again !! I hope ye rehydrated the lil 3 legged wonder cuz it probably got very thirsty and that tiny of a body stuck under there that long ...poor widdle thing !!

Worse kitten accident we ever had was .........Hellman's ! For some weirdo reason unnamed newbie kitten entered the trash dumpster we had outside in our Wisconsin home then. It got it's head stuck in an empty mayo jar and I found him nearly suffocating stuck in the jar...unable to breath much. Luckily we found it soon enough, paniced freaked out rapidly calling the 911 vet and he helped me to get said stuck kitty out of the empty mayo jar. Needless to say that yet unnamed kitten was called..........Hellmans !

He lived a ripe old age but he did have a bit of brain damage from his suffocation event in the empty mayo jar from the trash dumpster. KITTENS...puppies they are like babies ya know....if ya not there maybe ya need to make a *nursury* for em till ya get home per day cuz they get into everything when no human is supervisin em....they are BABIES ya know !

I vote Tripod, too! You can call her "Trippy" for short. Happy to hear she's safe and sound. Cat's are weird like that.

When I was in college, my old kitty [may she RIP] found her way into one of the trap door in my closet that leads to the plumbing in the upstairs bathrooms. I had a guy over that was replacing shower/bathtub fixtures and he left the door open. Later that night I noticed she was missing. Kept hearing muffled meows and realized she was stuck somewhere between the upstairs floor and the downstairs ceiling... wayyyyy far away from the door she went through to get there.

I ended up calling the maintenance guy, who ended up having to tear into my chimney from the outside to get her free. Demolition, labor and repairs were $350+ dollars.

First kittens I ever owned were sisters.

The one we named TuTu cuz she was an all white cat with her calico black markings looking like some balarina tutu going around her middle thus she was auto named TuTu.

Her sister I had not yet named. We got them right before Christmas.

I was putting up the real pine tree and had just strung all the lights on it.

Kitten b climbed up that real pine tree, got a BUZZZ on from the piney sap oozing from the christmas tree, and began chasing all up and down that tree destroying strings of lights, then coming down the tree she leaped for me & nip bit my finger and her eyes looked DEMONICALLY POSSESSED.

I named her that day...I called her LUCIFER. She was or got or seemed suddenly HIGH as a kite on pine sap sap sniffin or possessed by the devil ! I like feisty critters and she EARNED/kept the name of Lucifer that day.

NEVA let a kitten sniff real tree christmas pine sap !

I have gotten in to the habit of a kitten head count. I work a lot... Ever since the under the house deal...

Every time I get up and go to bed... Except last night. I had the door open talking to a neighbor.

I go to bed. One of the kittens (as yet un named, cats earn their names).

I should have known something was wrong. There was one cat wanting my attention while I was sleeping. It was purring and being friendly. All night long...

I wake up and start the coffee and a load of laundry... This is at 5AM.

OK, head count... One. Missing two. I look around and do the silly "here kitty" thing. Nothing.

I check all off the holes I plugged. Yup, still plugged. I sit and think... what if...

There is no way a kitten could get out of this house unless I let them out. I go to the front door and open it. There they are... huddled together behind a milk crate next to my front door.

I don't know... Maybe those cats are blessed. I am a lousy pet owner...
