It is unfortunate that in the midst of the account migration (and I use that term loosely) fiasco ,that EA would choose to turn on the house decay program . I know no quicker way to lose your player base than to do that .
With the current state of chaos involved with this "system" ,there are many houses in jeopardy .What are you thinking?

I'm thinking it's time to quit helping to pay the salaires of people who have no clue how to do their job. They didn't just mess up my account they messed up my creditcard, while I was away from home. CSR refused to pass me on to his supervisor and hung up the phone on me twice, and i hadn't even started cursing yet. Now there is one less long time customer.

Yup - while I was able to navigate the new AM stuff with lots of advice and help from folks here, I want to visually review/validate my CC info. Not possible with the current setup (number, expiration, etc).

This is all in order to keep paying EA without issues ... as expected by them of us. Remember, we could look at the info and optionally edit it at any time. That was good maintenance process.

No can do. I also had live chat disconnect twice when trying to get this point across to see if it can be corrected. Was not nasty because after 40 years in IT I do know how to use tact when needed.

So I hit the UNSUBSCRIBE button instead. Packed up the house last night and dropped it, moved characters to New Haven Inn and logged. Account expires 1 October. Tonight I start in another game. Not near as deep as UO, but it's not EA. I also have 2 others that I need to work on ... again, not EA.

If I missed somewhere that I can see my info, I apologize ... but I did not locate anything in the AM pages.

Works for me.

I am honestly starting to believe that EA is planning on pulling the plug on UO. i am not saying that UO does not make a profit. I am saying that if they take the staff away from UO, and assign them to a project that is making a better return... well you do the math.

I lost 2 accounts worth of characters and items. I have one account, that was given to me, and its certainly not my favorite. I play casually when I have an hour here and there, because i need the stress relief from my job as a paramedic.

I am used to people selling spots for a 7x7 house. Now you can an 18x18 on any shard, without any trouble at all. I am used to going to a vendor mall, and picking up whatever I need. Now if I cant craft or farm it... im not going to get it... not on Sonoma anyway. There are only players leaving in droves. There are very few, if any new players joining. And when they do, or if they do... they get to wander around an empty shard.

i will keep playing, but the fact is UO is on its way out.

They'll probably turn on the housing decay when Publish 72 hits all the other shards. Maybe EA hopes that while most players are in their homes pitching stuff into the trash and calculating what else to sacrifice for cleanup points, they'll be too busy to notice the sketchy little announcements about housing decay being reactivated or care that the houses of long-time players who are still having issues with the account management system are collapsing all around them. Opportunistic folks will, of course, take full advantage of this "event" and nab all kinds of items and housing spots and make sure that most of those items promptly get pitched into trash cans and poofed right out of existence so they can acquire some new shiney pixel items.

So much more to say but why bother.

Pixels > logic. Thats been the issue with UO for years.

Dev A: The villagers are rioting again

Dev B: OH just give them new pixels and they will go back to their huts.

Dev A: Why?!? They are complaining about bugs and bad content.

Dev B: Do what I say and it will calm them. Trust me

Dev A: No. I really think we need to devote time to making the game right. I'm calling EA headquaters and discuss my plan.

Dev B: Ok, Im going out to lunch.

30 minutes later Dev B returns to the office......

Dev C: Hey, have you seen Dev A?

Dev B: Yes. Dev A was carrying out their personal stuff out the door when I was walking in.

Dev C: Why? Dev A quit?

Dev B: No. Dev A called corporate and wouldn't listen to my suggestion to add new pixels to calm the villagers. Dev A wanted to fix the game and you see what happens.

Dev C: Oh.....when do you want the pixels added?

Dev B: Now thats a good little Dev.

If you've been around for any amount of time, you'd know EA would just pull the plug. They are dropping support for nearly 20 games in the next three months without any major discussion and this happens all the time.

They wouldn't have wasted money and time on migrating UO to the new system if they wanted to shut it down, they would just do it.

I've seen Warhammer and Camelot players saying the same thing after this migration, but if EA management had a meeting and somebody higher up said UO needed to be shut down, they wouldn't sit around dreaming up ways to kill it off, somebody would spend 15 seconds saying "okay put out the notice that it's going to be shut down, now can we go back to talking about Star Wars?"

I won't deny that EA management does incredibly stupid things that defy logic at times. They are the equivalent of Sci-Fi Channel (or SyFy :coco:) executives who push 20 hours of prime-time wrestling and ghost hunter bull**** every week. It's not what their long-time fans want, but it makes a profit, and while nothing is stopping them from investing money into shows that would pull in long-time fans, they would rather invest it in wrestling or ghost hunters since those are cheap to make and very profitable.

lol, stop ask your parents, uo is trying to make there info and creditcard info safer!!!
they saw database hacks sony etc and started this migration, in past someone logged into you account saw, card info address phone, email!! this not happening is a better solution, for those that get hacked!!!!!!!!!
making for a in long term better solution. IF alternative if there account database got hacked you and 60k other uo players would be screaming hate to developers!!!! LOOK too sony this is result of that!!

logging into a game seeing complete info on game is bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!! u share password for friend to run a harry when not not, now he ahs so much info on your account he can change emails out and make like you!! to EA cs and reset password cc etc so u lose all!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am quitting the day diablo3 comes out and will never again play, buy or even rent another EA title the rest of my life.

Until then there is nothing that beats UO, even with all the account crap, hacking, bugs, cheating and exploits.

EA/Mythic is one of the most poorly run companies I have ever seen, and I hate to support it. After UO I will never again support them, but until that day.. I guess I am part of the problem.

You never looked at CC info in the old system did you? Full CC# was **never** displayed but only the last 4 with *** covering the rest. That is the correct way. Expiration date was displayed as is also correct.

I am the paying customer and if I want to look at information secured by MY password, then I should be able to. If I am so silly as to have a password that is easy to crack, then so be it ... but the major information of CC data is protected enough.

A proper maintenance application will ALWAYS have some secured manner in which to check the information critical to the person needing it. Even at work, our HR system allws me to view and edit most (not all) information pertaining to my employment. Insurance elections, tax status, even allows me to see what I will be getting in my next paycheck - about 48 hours prior to payday.

But it is secured. I have access to that information that *I* might need on the fly - even for viewing. EA is disallowing me even that courtesy at the moment. Also, I never said a thing about seeing this info in-game - only in account management web pages that are accessed via password.

Wait, what? Did I miss something? They're turning on house decay? Can you post where you saw this? I can't find anything anywhere, and that doesn't sound like the kind of thing they'd secretly whisper in somewhere.

Posted on the UO Herald shortly after noon today, Eastern Time, by Kai Schober:

"Veteran awards are now once again available for all shards.

Also, we are working on getting house decay turned on and expect it to be working within the next week."
