They'll probably turn on the housing decay when Publish 72 hits all the other shards. Maybe EA hopes that while most players are in their homes pitching stuff into the trash and calculating what else to sacrifice for cleanup points, they'll be too busy to notice the sketchy little announcements about housing decay being reactivated or care that the houses of long-time players who are still having issues with the account management system are collapsing all around them. Opportunistic folks will, of course, take full advantage of this "event" and nab all kinds of items and housing spots and make sure that most of those items promptly get pitched into trash cans and poofed right out of existence so they can acquire some new shiney pixel items.
So much more to say but why bother.
Pixels > logic. Thats been the issue with UO for years.
Dev A: The villagers are rioting again
Dev B: OH just give them new pixels and they will go back to their huts.
Dev A: Why?!? They are complaining about bugs and bad content.
Dev B: Do what I say and it will calm them. Trust me
Dev A: No. I really think we need to devote time to making the game right. I'm calling EA headquaters and discuss my plan.
Dev B: Ok, Im going out to lunch.
30 minutes later Dev B returns to the office......
Dev C: Hey, have you seen Dev A?
Dev B: Yes. Dev A was carrying out their personal stuff out the door when I was walking in.
Dev C: Why? Dev A quit?
Dev B: No. Dev A called corporate and wouldn't listen to my suggestion to add new pixels to calm the villagers. Dev A wanted to fix the game and you see what happens.
Dev C: Oh.....when do you want the pixels added?
Dev B: Now thats a good little Dev.
