A friend and I were recently discussing how to do an Old West, frontier-themed house in UO. Has anyone here tried this yet, and if so, do you have screenies?

I have to admit that the abundance of barrels in this game is a plus, but the rarity of saddles is a minus, heh...

Hehe that is actually a great idea to try with one of the new custom houses we tryed that along time ago (back in like '00 lol) with a log cabin and it was pretty sweet *no screenies*:( but it was pretty simple put a bar some beerbottles barrels and such be creative might be easier than you think

oh, this sounds like fun. i can think of several things, right off.
no one's done it, as far as i know.
except for bits of things, like the horse cart. oh, and a guy did a miner's house.

Are you wanting an exterior setup with a showdown in the street scene? A saloon? You could build a stage with goza's and put some sexy dancing vendors on it. Heh.

I was thinking of a street in front of a building, and you know, a saloon would be PERFECT. :D :D Although, hmmmm... if I did this right, I could have a couple of narrow, tall buildings, maybe a saloon and a blacksmith? Or a bordello and a general store?

And eeeeeeee, I can't believe they're giving us mine carts! How perfect for an Old West house!

EDIT: Just ditched my smaller Zento house and bought a big old piece of Malas desert. I can practically hear the tumbleweeds tumble. :D

There used to be a house on catskills years ago, right after custom housing first came out. Someone had converted their 18x18 into a little western ghost town. I wish I had some screen shots of it. But the basic layout was 3 small buildings on the west edge of the plot. In the north east corner there was a smithy with a connecting stable. All the ground was dirt/sand color, and each building had connecting wooden plank sidewalks running in front of them. In the south east corner he had build a little saloon complete with barkeep and 'ladies of the night'. It was located in Malas I believe. *kicks himself for not having screenies* If anyone out there remembers this place and has pictures, please post them up.

Well, I don't really have any time to play right now, since I'm in the middle of a real-world project, but I couldn't resist making a quick start on this concept. Yes, I'm a dork. :loser:

[screenie removed; see later post below!]

Lots of work left to do, but hey, I like the way it's looking already. :)

while doing something else, i made a hitching post for you. i think it would look better with a little statue on top, but you can really use anything.

lit torch, key ring, and topper (in this case, a bottle)

Well, another case of insomnia means a little more work done on my Old West town. Still a lot to do, but this is where it stands at the moment. :D

(Click for bigger screenie!)

Gotta find me some hay and some horseshoes, but the only hay on LA is currently going for half a mill each, and I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid. :lick:

I hope this silly house amuses somebody else out there as much as it has me, heh.

Thanks, all! :)

Actually, the idea for the whole place started with that silly outhouse; it was finding the crescent-moon door in the tileset that made me think "oh my god, I HAVE to use this". :blushing: Guess we all know where my sense of humor is, heehee!

When I get some actual free time (or another night of insomnia), I'll finish up the street and start in on the general store, saloon, and smithy. Still need to figure out how I want to do the stage upstairs for the dancing girls! (Too bad UO doesn't have garters... ;))

I cannot wait to see the finished design, Evilminion. It looks great so far. I was thinking if we are lucky enough to get brambles as one of the new plants they could mimmick tumbleweed. Otherwise, maybe dye some wool? As for the dancing girls, perhaps the female bustier could work with a long skirt? If you could find a way to raise a mug or bottle up to their hands it might look like they are partying? I dunno, just tossing things out there. Too bad we don't have lace up boots.:D

It's sad but I have been thinking so hard about what to use to make tumbleweed, I keep seeing some sort of brambly thing in my head and the closest I can get to it would be the top part of those little reaper trees you get from the ML bosses. So you could get a brown one and maybe stick it where the trunk of the tree is behind something else, so only the tumbleweedy part pokes out? :)

Hrm what else...could use some fertile dirt next to your horse for, erk, well you know...POOP! there I said it! Was just thinking about that western where they fry an egg on the ground because it is so freaking hot, but I doubt a couple of cooked eggs would make sense to anyone else in that context :D

Oh! For your roof you could get an NPC vendor on a stool and jimmy up a rifle for them, there's enough long skinny weapons in this game that might work for the barrel, maybe made from shadow, just need a brown handle so a shorter bronze made weapon would work for that...i think it's jin baori that make good vests...a couple more NPC vendor ladies in fancy dresses and big hats and all that might not be amiss, but tehn again ladies might not presumably walk around near where the red light district is, hehe. Ok thats all I got for now, pretty tired after a long day out of town.

Aaaaa, you guys are brilliant! :D :D

Some great ideas to go on there, thank you so much! I definitely need to get myself some fertile dirt; that's hilarious and perfect. We'll see whether brambles are part of the new plant set; if not, I'll have to try the corrupted tree and dyed wool ideas; those sound promising.

I ditched my stage idea for the second floor of the saloon and made it a more straightforward, um, "bordello". More opportunity for hilarity that way. ;)

Say, if anyone here plays on Lake Austin and can get horseshoes, shipwreck paintings, or scattered hay, could you please let me know? They're in precious short supply with the turn-ins, and I could use a few of each for this project!

Please keep the suggestions coming!

A thought just occurred to me... you could really do with a wanted poster

Is it possible to dye paintings recovered from shipwrecks? (might look good dyed a beige/browny colour, if that is possible)

I have to admit, the first thing that popped into my head when I read this was to put a vendor down in the street and raise a set of beads up halfway between the guy in the street and the girl on the balcony. :D

Oh wait, it was an old west theme, not mardi gras.
