Just checked my email to find a support email from... not UO but DaoC. Now I dont even have a DaoC account although I have open issues with UO Support (Which a month on I'm still waiting for them to action). Now smartscreen says its dodgy (possible) but what do you like think? If you have open tickets with UO Support, what would you think?



I'm not one for falling for this rubbish, but either someones doing this all wrong or its phishing. Even if I did have a DaoC account, I certainly wouldnt have the disks from 11 years ago with the CD key. Bloody stupid if you ask me.

ya its phishin, they figure if they get the cd key they can contact support and say they are the original owner of the account and have the original key to prove it.

What gets me though is that the email is legit. Not only that, but I keep that email pretty low key and dont sign up to anything game related to it. I use my public email instead.

lol Yes but back then you got something worth your money with a big box, a cloth map and all the extras. Now.. now you get a DVD case, a cheap DVD and a bit of paper with some random words on it.

Every single week… I get some clearly fake Blizzard email threatening to take actions on me and my World of War-craft account. I mean… every week, month in… month out. I hate WoW… I clearly don’t have an account, but this bogus email cries and pleads with me to respond so I don’t loose my non-existent account. It wouldn’t shock me at all if the same hacker/virus people do the same thing with UO accounts.

It's also been in the news around here, even posted on uo.com to not respond to suspicious emails about UO. This was a long time ago, but still. If your accounts are working, everything looks right… call the non-800 (we are too cheap to give our loyal paying customers an 800#) support line for EA. They don’t know much… but they can tell you if you are in any danger.

Look in the header information. also seen them where if it has a link to click, it reads on the page as legit, but in the browser bottom tool bar, it goes else where.
if it's supposedly an ongoing trouble ticket, it should reference your original #. it's missing too i suspect if phishing.

If any email asks for password, secret words, cd keys, pins, bank account, credit card numbers, account names, and serial numbers then it is 100% phishing.

Real companies do NOT ask you for that stuff over email. Ever. If one of my banks, credit or game companies are asking me to check on something, I never use the links in the emails, I go to my own link to their sites and log in. This is largely because some of the emails are very good and you have to actually look at the headers to determine that it did NOT come from the original company. Looking at the links sometimes shows them too.

I'm still disappointed with how gullible people are, even today. That's one big reason we STILL have huge amounts of spam.

I've just inspected the source and the email was sent from eamythic.net which if you try to go to in your browser, redirects you to Dark Age of Camelot. The reply to email is [email protected]. I replied rather sarcasticly considering I dont have a DoaC account and have never played it.

I have had to use my secret word in an email before with UO Support as I refuse to pay the high charges to call the US. However I've not had a trouble ticket number before so I cant cross reference it (I didnt include the full number in the image incase it was real).

Its really baffling me as the email looks real and it replies to the DaoC website yet smartscreen says it looks dodgy and I dont have an account. Makes me wonder if my UO issues have gone though to the DaoC CS?

I have gotten emails in my Hotmail that have the reply address of [email protected] and other such emails - the reply to appears legit, but the english in email is generally very poor at the people trying to use this scam have included a link that when you hover your cursor over is very obvious that it is not an official Blizzard website. Due to this, I changed my email address, that inbox gets spammed with at least 3 of these emails per day everything from fake promos to account suspension notices, that email address is no longer registered with any game company, and yet I still get the spam, sadly after reporting over 100 of the emails Microsoft & Blizzard still have yet to shut these scams down.

Be careful when you receive emails asking about any sort of personal information or account information... this sort of things goes as well for real mail and speaking with people on the phone. Make sure any links in emails are legit before clicking - check for misspelled words, sub domains (such as biowaremythic.fakewebsite.com) and such. When speaking on the phone, make sure that you can link the phone number to the actual person or business before giving out any information, or make sure you are calling them when sensitive information is required.

iamSnippa - You make a very good and valid point. I have now just created a new email and am in the process of moving all my game accounts over to it.

Makes me wonder if the earlier emails I had from UO CS were real or not. Either way, I'll find out soon enough no doubt.

That’s the thing… with the fake WoW emails, it's all the graphics Blizzard actually uses in their emails to people. All logos, all elements you would see normally. Thanks to the people who rule the internet, scammers and all kinds of hackers can make ANY real email address look like anything else. That’s why when you reply to junk mail saying to take you off their list, it bounces back without delay. Never reply… golden rule. There’s a difference between “innocent” unsolicited junk mail and hacker mail. To me, it's all the same. Unwanted.

Its called a spoof e-mail look up open email relays and spoofing If I can find an open relay server I can bounce messages off it and make them appear from @whitehouse.gov if I want, you just wont be able to respond, thats how the wow fishers do it, and thats why they include links to there 'battle.net site' b.c you cant actually respond to the legit email address.
