Oh, the lovely RNG

I was crafting tongs to make more dull copper daggers. My tinkering is low, so I only had 20% chance at creating them.

Set it to craft 50 of them, it failed all 50 attempts.

Sometimes the RNG is really wacked.

I am hoping that the RNG is "owing me one" for next time I roll for an arty or something, heh.

Well... the RNG while being random and numbery is, as stated in a FoF or something somewhere, prone to repeating similar outcomes... Oh well... whatcha gonna do? Maybe you'll get 50 tangles off of navery next time you go.

Sometimes the RNG is really wacked.
RNG... sometimes can get stuck in a repeat if action is repeated at the same time interval... which auto-crafting 50 could have easily done.

No need, it's broken both ways. You can craft an item with 5% success chance 10 times in a row too.

Yep, I tinkered three lanterns in a row with a 3.5% success chance the other day. No failures at all, surprised the hell out of me. :O

Actually, that proves there is a need. If the RNG is prone to streaks, well, then its not "random", is it?

Draconi stated that the RNG was indeed horribly flawed and every Dev Team has known that...Just nobody bothered to fix it. He said it was on the "Plate of Things To Do" (tm) that has obviously been abandoned by the current Dev Team du jour.

Note to Cal: Fix the RNG. Soon. (tm)

... right, they're using the default random number generator. As in someone else made it, someone else controls the code for it.

You do realize that it's impossible to code a formula for truly random numbers right? "fixing" the random number generator is a LOT more complicated than typing the letters.
That said, it's unnecessary too.

Yes, truly random is impossible.

However, they can fix what we have to be more random and get rid of the steaks. If a streak can happen then the seed for the RNG must be time based - and streaks "shouldn't" happen with an RNG on a consistent basis.

The UO RNG needs to be reworked into a random and virtually streakless state. The Team knows its broken, they've admitted it - why are you willing to pay for yet another broken system in this game?

The only 'true' rngs that I know work correctly
pull picks out of white noise. Judging by this one
I don't think they are using that type.

There are plenty of free pseudo-random number generators out there that for all intents and purposes appear truly random, and that is all that is really needed...the "appearance" of randomness. Nothing needs to be fixed, they should just do away with the current atrocity altogether and replace it with something that works.

To you people talking about the other RNGs, the RNG's streakness only happens if something is done in a very rapid succession. Most things (probably about 95%) of things can't or arent done in a rapid enough succession for the streak to really matter.

Are you using the OTHER RNGs in the rapid succession that this RNG fails to?

Or are you just taking word of mouth, spitting **** out your ass, Pressing it twice (or even 50 fails to prove anything, really) and saying "Eureka I fixed UO?"

But all this is negligable, because the time it would take to actually implament a new RNG is substantial, specially for something that works most of the time. Let's not even go into the bugs messing with the code always causes.

Whats fun is doing Imbuing and knocking out the relics first.Failin 6 times in a row at 97% Chance. Then catching the 4th and 5th cheep mod one try.
