The World Wildlife Federation (WWF) added several new animals to the endangered species list today. Various factors are reportedly to blame for increasing the number of species on the brink of extinction. But one creature added to the list has a lot of people wondering what the WWF was thinking.

While the rhinoceros, polar bear, elephant and various whales raise no eyebrows, the addition of the Siege Periloustis to the list of endangered wildlife has raised concern that people might lose respect for the WWF list.

Siege Periloustis was added today along with three species of South American worms threatened by deforestation and a North Atlantic Sea Slug endangered by off-shore oil exploration. According to the WWF Siege Periloustis is threatened by simple neglect.

“The WWF has come very close to the edge of reality before. Remember the time they tried to add the Unicorn? But this is really insane,” said Dr Walt Carmanigan of the University of Arkansas Animal Population Research foundation in Little Rock.

Dr. Carmanigan thinks that a creature as neglected as the Siege Periloustis, a form of Sapien that has a worldwide habitat but rapidly dwindling numbers, should be left to disappear. “No animal in history has been as dramatically underappreciated as the Siege Periloustis. Since no one wants to address its needs, why does the WWF even bother?” asked Dr. Carmanigan.

One individual in Eastern Canada reportedly intended to come to the defense of the Siege Periloustis, but seems to have lost interest. So for now, the Siege Periloustis is on the WWF list, but what good that does the species is anyone’s guess.

This is Dirk Digsmore reporting from WWF headquarters in Washington D.C. Why did I spend my time writing this?
