what i heard about it was that the painting asked you for the number and when you spoke the number the black liche would appear and would drop a true black dye tub. don't know if thats the truth but it is what i heard from a couple of people.
This is true, but that was an event put on by the GMs at the time because there was a lot of call for "things to mean something". And the Covetous levers (switches) and the "3-4-1-5" notes were the biggest thing mentioned.
Notice though, that even with this event, it doesn't change what was the original intent of those levers/switches and numbers. Many levers in Sosaria's dungeons used to summon spawn. It was always thought that these spawn were the only meaning for the levers. But they equally could have been a sort of guard to protect a deeper secret. And so too could have been the Black Liche (now called a Lich, I suppose).
Whether that means anything is highly debatable, and the claim that levers are broken or unfinished are still the most likely.
However, I can tell you that discoveries have been made. Changes have been affected. And by specific actions in specific sequence to cause these changes.
While we have not found the complete reason for the levers in Covetous and the meaning of the numbers, we have made some discovery into it. It may still be broken, but there is definitely more than meets the eye. Most definitely. These changes by actions, repeatable and predictable and definitive, prove that.
The secrets we hold have been the result of many years of research. From the very beginning of the First Age. It's not been easy. I won't divulge what's been discovered, at least not yet.
I only post this because the good citizens of Sosaria seem to have lost that feeling that there's more to this world than being rich and having a mansion full of "things". I can't say yet that there definitely is more, hidden well from our eyes, but I can say that there seems to be, and there is at least some stages of "more".
I sincerely thank you all for your time and participation.
