I ran into something yesterday that got me to scratching my head for the first time in a long time.

I was out at Exodus Dungeon, happily beating on Golems to try and finish up my Dawn's Music Box. I was getting a bit tired of the constant "You have been stunned by a concussion blow" (or something along those lines) every single freaking time I went up against one of them, so decided I'd start using Evasion to cut down on the number of times it happened.

So the first time my use of Evasion coincides with one of these "blows", the *evades* thing goes off, and I successfully evade the actual hit from the Golem, but I still get stunned by the "blow".

Now how exactly did I get hit by a "blow" if I didn't get hit at all?

This is the question that has me scratching my head.

Anyone have any ideas how you can get "hit", even though you don't get hit? Doesn't getting "hit" imply physical contact, or is the whiff of air from his missed swing enough (insert sarcastic drip here)?

The Golem's concussive blow was implemented before the majority of special attacks.
So, it's a fair bet that it has its own little section of code, that works in a way unaccounted for by evasion.

this is why there are so many bugs in this game, too many "own little sections of code"
it needs a rewrite, UO 2 , or even a new game with the same skill style.

As far as I can tell, golems don't even need to hit you to deliver a concussion blow... It is just triggered randomly when you get in range. Actually, I suspect that it might be a passive ability triggered when the golem is hit, similar to the auto-dispel ability.
I'm almost sure that on many occasions I've been stunned by a golem on the floor below me in the controller tower next to Blackthorn's castle, when I damaged it with Earthquake...

P.S. I wish they would increase a bit the drop rate for rare music gears...
The current drop rate is 1 every 100 paragon golems. Since you only get 1 paragon every 20 golems, on average you will have to kill 2000 golems for every rare music gear you need. I only need Selim's bar to complete my collection, but it's going to take forever...
At least, they could increase the spawn rate for paragon golems a bit...

maybe it actually hits the ground and what your getting is the aftershock, then it wouldn't be blocked.

well, it's something that makes some sence.

It's called a "Colossal Blow", and "Blow" would imply an actual physical strike. I just find it odd that with 360 skill points in Swords, Bushido & Parry, along with 45 DCI can't counter a special from a creature that I can kill in 3 hits. It's a 100% chance that the special will land, regardless of whether I parry the hit or Evade it.

It tends to get a bit frustrating when it happens on almost every single golem.

Boy I wish this was true as at last count im at 432 Paragon golems and im still waiting for my 1st Rare music gear. But I defintily agree that the spawn rate of golems could be increased, I have it averaged out to a Paragon every 1/2hr . . . ill let you guys do the math on how many hours I have done without a rare gear im already depressed after i counted the ticks on the paper i use to track the # of P golems I have killed. Though I have managed to fill two music boxs with every gear minus the rares though

No problem. I have as yet to see a rare gear myself, and I've been killing paragons in the area near Honesty moongate for the past couple of years, not to mention my recent concentrated effort in Exodus and the ones I've killed there. At this rate, I may get a rare gear when my oldest graduates high school.

She's 13 now....
