No meditation mage

Hi,

I'm sure this has been asked before, but when doing a search I couldn't find a thread on this. Probably just didn't look long enough, but anyhow...

I'm making a bard with all four bard skills. (No point in arguing how useless peacemaking can be, it's a concept that I'm sticking with.) I'm aiming for 120 in six skills, so that leaves me with 240 to toy around with. For me, magery is a given, so that leaves me with just one more skill. Hence:

120 Music
120 Provo
120 Disco
120 Peace
120 Magery
120 Fun and games

I'm not planning on doing much solo-work with this char, so it's mainly a support char. I'm thinking that meditate would allow me to heal and spam EVs quicker, but... I was hoping to get more out of the char. If I went with Eval Int instead, then I could offer even more crowd control with paralyze, and actually help doing damage.

So - long story long - could I pull this off without meditation? With 40 lmc and say 15 MR? Anyone running a mage without meditation who can share their experiences?

Also, just a side-question that popped into my mind, can you soulstone spellweaving to a char that hasn't done the spellweaving quest? I know it's very mana-intensive, but would be a very fun addition to the template, and if you don't just use it for WoD then it isn't as mana-heavy as many people say.

To the best of my knowledge, you can soulstone it on to the character but you can not cast any spells until you do the quest.

I have read that having a lot of Mana Regen can be as effective if not more so that having 100 Meditation. In that same thread I believe it was demonstrated that the 100 Meditation would be higher, but I recall it was marginal.

Med has a huge impact on MR on gear.

You cannot soulstone spellweaving on if you have not completed the quest.

It sounds like I'll just have to try it and see if it works. I'm not planning to be the highest damage dealer on raids, or to be able to solo rapidly through dangerous areas, but... As long as the mana regen is enough to keep me healing continuously, through in some EVs and Nature's Fury every now and then and top it off with a couple of WoD in the end... Yeah, sounds like I'll just have to try and see how it goes.

If you will mainly be using EV's for support then I would go with Med instead of eval. If you are going to rely on other spells that need eval then just load up on med armor.

Just figured I should follow up on this, if anyone is interested for future reference...

My current template is

100 music (locked it for training purposes)
108 disco
113 provo
120 peace
110 magery (Hrm, why haven't I been training this?)
116 spellweaving

At the moment I'm wearing a suit with 35 lmc, 14 MR, 148 int and 158 mana, and for a support role this isn't bad at all. It's enough to spam heals and throw away EVs, and that's good enough for me. The mana pool and lmc allows me to throw a couple of WoDs rapidly, which is nice. I had to sacrifice quite a bit of SDI for this suit though, but that's something to work on.

More importantly - it's a very fun template. I can't solo much (although charming an ogre lord to do tanking for you is nice), but I'm enjoying all the bard skills, the diversity of magery, and extra benefits from SW. With peacemaking, invisibility and ethereal voyage, traveling through dangerous areas shouldn't be too hard. My main problem now is not being a very good player. :blushing:

Edit: For raids, I switch to jewellery that brings up all bard skills but peace to 120, until I've maxed it out by training. Also, I've found that Firehorns is very nice to have, since lack of Eval has hurt my damage department.
