Factions

In order to promote accessibility and invigorate Factions, we’ve made several changes and fixed some bugs. Additionally, Factions will play an important role in the Warriors of Destiny plot arc. <ul> [*]Faction size limit and load balancer removed: individual factions can grow to any size. Previously capped at 200.
[*]Multiple characters from the same account may join the same faction
[*]An account cannot have characters in different factions on the same shard
[*]Removed 30 day character age requirement
[*]“Young” players cannot join factions
[*]“Young” players will be removed from guilds that join factions
[*]One vote in faction elections per account
[*]Only one character per account may run in the elections
[*]Quit time reduced from 7 days to 3 days
[*]Resolved issues with ghosts using stairs [/list]



Spring Cleaning 2008

Ah, how time flies. Spring has come once again to Britannia, but the sweet smell of blossoming flowers outside our homes can’t belie the memories of battles fought long so very long ago. Or is that the chest overflowing with Ophidian weapons in the corner? Or maybe it’s the bag of cursed artifacts hidden upstairs?

Adding four new compositions to UO!

Bug Fixes:

Fixed a bug where players that use the Basket of Herbs could lose 20 points of cooking when the effect wears off instead of 10 points of cooking.
Explosion potion should no longer go off and reveal the player if the player is in no play mode (character transfer).
Pet release gump should now closed the moment a player is in no play mode during a character transfer.
Players should no longer be able to stable pets while a pet trade gump is open.
Spellweaving: Essence of Wind. Casting Speed and SSI debuff potency have been flip flopped
Fixed an issue with Ronin not being able to access secures in their own houses if permissions were set to "guild"
The Curse spell should no longer sometimes last past its intended duration
When a monster casts Curse on players the icon should now show in the buff icon tool bar
Fixed bugs where Paroxymus's swamp dragon can despawn if it is killed

Players who transfer to a shard from another will no longer start in Magincia.
Fixed a bug with the weight of stacks of bola balls being incorrect
Small stacks of ore should no longer get stuck in "This object is in use" mode
Runic fishing poles made with Oak will not return values of 0 any longer
Commas can now be seen in checks (instead of 1000000, you will see 1,000,000)

I noticed that "Threads of Fate/Life" and "Cloaks of Corruption" weren't on the list of turn-ins. I wonder if that was an oversight, or do they have an as yet unrevealed purpose?

I'm guessing the threads will have another purpose...what with the seemingly random sayings when you double click them...coupled with the cloak...could prove interesting....I'm hangin on to those just in case.

That would be my guess as well. Perhaps a Quest to "uncorrupt" the Cloak.
Then a 120 Tailor sews in 1 or more, probably more, threads giving the Cloak
beneficial properties. The properties depending on the Type of thread and it's
accompanying saying.

Commas in checks ... awesome.

For those who think EA does not hear us on bugs, the Bola Ball item is one I (at least) submitted, easily reproducible AND submitted via the Bug Forum here ... before they set preference to the Support stuff.

But ... day-am! that's a pretty good list and will definitely clear stuff from my inventory!

It is too bad that the beneficial acts restrictions (your faction character can not be healed/cured/resurrected/etc) was not removed from Trammel facets. That was also a huge put off for players who wanted to try it out. This will be great for factions overall though.

On another note. The turn ins are to several different NPCs. I am "assuming" that these points will go into a common pool for your character, regardless of which NPC was handed what.

The faction changes are good, however I think we should reduce the number of factions from 4 to 2.

Lets face it, UO does not have the population to make all 4 factions viable. I see the top guilds on each server taking over one faction, and everyone wants to join a winning team.

No info about IDOC changes? Oversight or pushed again? I hope they take the house condition text away and just have a generic visual clue that a house might fall like a colored house sign. We have heard some of rumors and hints but I think more changes were planned.

Glad to be getting rid of some of the junk in my house.

I'm Not impressed at all with these turn-ins. In some cases, the items being turned in are of much greater value than the ones that would be recieved.

A customizable shirt? no thanks
Ear rings with nightsight? cool if you are not ELF or dont have magery
Royal Brit Guard Sashes? can't even see it under a robe
Alacrity Scrolls? somewhat useful, but not original at all
Sherry the mouse? a personal town crier. No thanks
Snake Skin boots? 2% poison....Mabey if it was 2/2/2/2/2
Knights armor? THE WORSt OF THE LOT! a suit with 42% resist and a whopping 6 Hit Point inc. 120 magic resist gives 44% across the board.

In summary there is nothing there that I am really excited about or will find useful to enhance My PvP or PvM experience. Would it be so bad to actually give useful items like the tokuno turn-ins? Those rewards were actually USEFUL

Many of the IDOC fixes are going to be things that they consider exploits - and they NEVER release the exploit fixes until all shards have the publish.

This is just plain insulting. If this is the type of attention players can expect for factions, I'd rather the clueless designers and developers would forget they existed and go ruin something else.

All you did was amplify the problems that already exist in factions...there is only a single bugfix in that whole list, and no improvements to the system.

You finally proven to me what I've suspected for a long time - I shouldn't pay your salary because you don't deserve it. These changes are terrible. They always say things have to get worse before they get better, but in the case of UO they just keep getting worse...

I would encourage anybody who is hanging onto their account hoping for change like I am to cut your subscriptions and forget about the game. It's time is past.

I'm not impressed like others. The cost of time and insurance greatly outweighs the value of the rewards. Even New Haven skill quest items overshadows these.

Now if the turn ins went into a community collection box to get any of the rewards from the Brit library, Moonglow Zoo, or the Vesper Museum. It would be worth it.

Why aren't the boots blessed as well?

Why is it all pixel crack? The earings are the most desirable (night sight is borked for elves most times now, so everyone will want a set). The rest... BAHHH. Cant even get a custom hue on the shirt.

This is all part of the "Phase Out Origin" (POO) Campaign. Every major change is designed to move people out of this game and into something Mythic actually likes.

Yeah i can totally agree with that. When i heard about it i instantly thought this must be some late cruel april fools joke that we are at the receiving end of.

A shirt is useless unless you are a beggar and don't need to wear armor.

I am pretty comfortable using night sight potions and armor. In fact i have built 70s suits around polar bear masks for night sight So earrings are useless.

RBG Sash? I already have one that just instantly lost it's value since it's not blessed.

Alacrity Scrolls are likely the best thing and at the same time one of those things that do not live up to your expectations. You pop one in and get one or two gains in 15 minutes unless you waste it and use it below 80 skill.

Sherry the Mouse Statue sounds nice but considering that most of the town criers hardly ever have any news to report (even when stuff is going on) i don't really want one in my house mocking me.

2% Poison Boots? Might as well have made it 0. I prefer my AOS Sandals with 0 resists.

Knight's Armor doesn't sounds good since you will need 6 pieces to complete a suit and its less useful than Virtue Armor (Which people only use until they can find armor with better regen). Besides, how many other sets are sitting in your chests waiting to be completed? Why not offer some pieces from those sets that people have been trying to complete forever (not that those armor sets would be any more useful).

I can't believe these items are the reward for all the insurance I spent. To be honest I would have enjoyed the ignorant bliss of continuing to hunt the moonglow spawn without knowing the turn-ins were,,, well,, less than desirable. C'mon Devs tweak it up a notch, maybe some tokuno items or stat scrolls or skill scrolls or comparable point link with the current collections. I know you have been working hard on it but this is an election year. Listen to the people if you want our votes......

I hate to always be so negative but regarding the turnin rewards... Is that it!? The magic weapons, scythes and even planeswords and shields that we are turning in are actually BETTER items than the rewards!?!?
It says this is part one, does that mean that there will be other rewards in the future? and that I need to hold onto all my junk still, because turning anything in now would be utterly pointless?

The Devs are doing a great job, you people need to get off it and see the big picture :

Factions got an update, granted maybe not flawless, but that's what input is for, don't just sit there spouting off how "oh you ruined the game, this is just bad" , explain it in black and white, and do it repeatedly, and you'll get your point across.

As far as the turn-in .... YOUR OUT OF YOUR MIND, if you think they should release stuff as powerful as EM items... the Clean Up Brit was always about momentos, and just cool stuff in general...

Not about changing the game to suit your uber-needs.. I mean really, were you even around for the last one? This is rediculous to see so much crap being spewed towards the devs for not releasing over-powering items, or things with rediculous mods/graphics.

Get real and become remotely appreciative, because like it or not Jeremey, the GM Dev (name escapes me) and the small crew that they actually have are kicking ass.

Maybe not very smart but an accurate portrayal of how screwed up politics can be.

As for the person who wondered what Inavlis's Burchette was and looks like, that was my point, most people have never seen one because the drop rate was so low. It fetches probably well over 100 mil thus turning it in would not be a wise move.

At the First Clean up Britannia people were able to make items to turn in. I was brand new at the time and I spent hours chopping wood to make wooden shields. It gave me the opportunity to turn in stuff just like the vet players. Why can't something like that be added? It would give crafter types a reason to harvest and craft.

Duncan I don't think this is a complete list...I think Jeremy just wanted to appease the masses with a little morsel of the upcoming publish...but I don't know! I'm pretty sure that the housing changes is what's taking the patch so long to go through QA, the housing system is REALLY old and I'm sure the dev's are not thrilled at going in and changing any of it *grins*

IBD's don't sell for anywhere near 200m. If you find someone willing to pay 200m for one, PLEASE slip them my ICQ. They typically sell around 60-70m.

I too was envisionjing a Clean Up Brit type of situation....I was out of games doing RL stuff during the last clean up event....But I'd like to see it again. What's the big deal with making some items "somewhat" useful.

How about something like this:

Boots - %5 resist - randomply scattered...or even a random %5 in one resist, is 3% going to kill anyone? It puts it inline with the virtue suit.

Earring - Random attribute - Fc1, FCR1, Nightsight, MR1, etc - NO FCR 3's! Keep
it simple and low-end. It would allow people to tweak a bit.

Knight's Armour - Should there be some blessing forthe whole suit? Self Repair? 100LRC so a knight doesn't use tithing points? buto nly if you wear the whole suit - No whole suit....you get notihng!

What about giving out something useful to crafters? Hammers & Kits & such. -> It should take some points though.

Also, what about blackrock pieces? What are we supposed to do with the pieces we've got left over? If nothing else, I'd like to see the Haven guy back to take those for a few days.
