[NEWS:] Pirates do know how to have a good time!

Saturday the 7th of February was a very busy night for the members of the (UP) United Pirates with the evening starting off at their “Jolly Roger Inn” where they hosted the PGoH (Purple Guardians of HONOR) guild’s “Traveling Bard's Night”. An packed tavern gathered to hear the talented bards spin tales about the theme of the evening: Tales about the Sea. All the bards who were brave enough to stepped forward to share their tales were treated to good natured taunts, laughter and appreciative applause as the crowd enjoyed in maybe a bit too much ale and rum. When they were done the judges were led outside to make a very hard choice the top three tales of the evening.

These are some of the bards who entered and shared their skills with the spoken word with everyone. Yes Keico is a talking squirrel.

In third place was Trinsac (UP) who spun a raunchy tale of a young sailor on his sea voyage and a barrel. For this efforts he was rewarded with 125,000 gold pieces and many pirates pointing at each other after his story was done.

In second place was Sarda (UP) Who told a story about a fisherman and the fishman/ woman.. thing that he encountered three nights in a row. He walked out with 375,000 gold for his tale of confusion on the fisherman’s part.

The winner was Akuma (MgKA)who weaved a masterful yarn about sailing past a rock sticking out of the sea with a lost pirate stranded on it. Whom she picked up three days in a row only to have him disappear from the deck of her ship. Many a pirate wasted his drink by spitting it out laughing so hard when Akuma reached her punch line to the story.

Soon as the “Traveling Bard’s Night” was over everyone moved over to the Black Market that was being held in the building right next door to the tavern. There vendors from all over hawked their wares for prices that were way below what the vendors sell them for in Luna. Haggling was encouraged and if you were blessed with the gift of the tongue you could almost feel like you were stealing from the vendors for the prices you could get items for. It’s just a shame that this market is only open once a month because they may have the best deals you can find.

Shortly after that this reporter had to go witness a keep falling down, otherwise I would of loved spending more time watching drunken pirates swapping tales of adventure, and crossing cutlasses in duels of mock combat just to stay sharp for the next time they hit the high seas again in search of prey.

It was a great night, even though I was only a spectator.

Some say UO is 'dying' - but Catskills still has more player community than any newer game.
