"I noticed that "Threads of Fate/Life" and "Cloaks of Corruption" weren't on the list of turn-ins. I wonder if that was an oversight, or do they have an as yet unrevealed purpose?"

Draconi has confirmed that the Threads and the Cloaks will have a future use unrelated to the turn-in system - so hang on to them!

--

"So... what does the Cloak of Corruption do, anyway?"

Current abilities of the Cloak of Corruption: <ul> [*]Attempts to aggro a large area around the player <ul> [*]Doesn’t work in towns/guard zones [*]Cannot aggro players, pets, summons, or benign creatures [*]Cannot aggro anything that is currently in battle [*]Increases speed of aggro’d mob for several minutes [*]Boosts Fame obtained from aggro’d mobs [*]Can draw attacks up to 30 tiles away
[*]Rapidly decays Karma <ul> [*]-500 karma every 30 seconds equipped
[*]Rapidly decays HP, Mana, Stamina in the normal world [*]Rapidly restores HP, Mana, Stamina in the Ethereal Void
"Punctuation is cool and all, but where are all the exploit fixes?"

Exploit fixes are a tricky thing to talk about - it's terribly demoralizing for players when a well-known exploit seems to go ignored, and we'd love to be able to reassure you that it's getting fixed. However, we don't want to spread knowledge of a given exploit before the fix goes live, so we end up having to make vague statements ("We're fixing house placement exploits!") without giving any real detail. That's the situation we're in with publish 52 - when I was putting together that preview list, I cut out at least half a dozen exploit fixes, not including the house placement exploit stuff. Sometimes, we just want to be able to savor the image of all the exploiters suddenly discovering their favorite tricks don't work...

--

"Is the event going to advance at all before this publish?"

No, and the unavoidable delay occasioned quite a bit of salty language around the office, because we're really excited about the next phase and want to get it out to you as soon as possible. It's too big to get out without the full publish process, though. Sharpen your swords, send your loved ones to safety, and prepare yourselves...

The wish it wasn't shirts because no one is going to be able to see them under your armor. So unless your bank sitting and don't have to wear armor or your a crafter and don't fight there is no point in wearing it.

Boots will probably be my only choice.

No unique armor graphics on a subpar suit of armor = complete waste.

Shirts... meh. They'd go in the same forgotton secure container as AOS clothing.

Sashes... same as shirts.

Earrings... might get a pair for dungeon crawling purposes, but in general I LIKE the nighttime look in KR with how the lighting is done... they FINALLY got that part right (compared to the 3d client's "sun spot" lighting).

Sherry statue... Still iffy on that one... They don't exactly have the greatest track record with the actual Sherry or the Town Crier system currently. Maybe later.

Maybe Round 2... we'll see.

I use KR for house placing (love the zoom option) and that is about it. I kind of miss the old 3d. They should have kept the old 3d and just updated the graphics. Third Dawn had the best UI that UO has ever had. Container gumps were awesome. Being able to link together spell icons was awesome.

I can't believe after all the time they have to think about reward turn-in items, they give out this bunch of bull hockey items? sashes, shirts? oh my god, I about laughed when i started reading the "cool items you get for turning in your suff".

useless armor (you know, i can just dye my platemail from the store luna white and it will look like that, and protect just as well), worthless shirts and sashes (like i don't already have enough of those saved from before that will never be used). Some mouse statue (ok, thats good i guess).

Only thing worth trying for is to get boots for everyone. Thats it. 1 item! Here i thought we would get something actually good for turn ins. I want to turn in my rubble for this .... rubbish?

So I won't be getting any of the shirts. I'm a roleplayer and wish they had at least one phrase in there for RP purposes. Perhaps something like Royal Britannian Guard Ceremonal Dress Shirt or something like that which makes it feel like I'm getting honored for battling on behalf of Britannia. I'm assuming you can choose which message you want on the shirt and also which RBG sash you can get? Perhaps I shouldn't assume.

I will do my best to collect all items except the shirts. I suppose the sashes can be RPed as an RBG honor. The earrings and boots are handy and it will be nice to have a town crier in the home.

What I'm curious about with the threads and cloak, will we have to wait three years for them to be used?

As for the shirts ... like the V-day cards, they are a little corny, but as corny goes they do serve a purpose. The factions shirts are a cute touch. I'll definitely have to pick up an "I survived the ophidian war" one. Perhaps a "Hang Ricardo" shirt to wear when torch-and-pitchforking around the effigy in Luna.

The blaze sash is a bit surprising in this toned-down era (or is it just a regular golden hue?).

Think I'll just hold onto my turn ins and hope for a second round...these rewards are a complete waste....shirts and sashes have been done...I don't know why the sashes didn't at least say something having to do with moonglow or something...or the ophid invasion....the knights armor is another waste of lockdowns...and I'd never even waste money to insure the earrings or the boots...and I'm not sure it's possible to vocalize how sad I think the mouse statue is. The turn in items themselves make for some better deco...and some of them are much more functional...I can't see trading in a berserkers scythe for a mouse statue...I can understand not making anything too powerful or unbalancing...and totally agree...but it would have been nice if they'd have made things people actually asked for...seed packet...metal dye tub...etc....or even some new mildly colored dyes or something...

Seems like a LOT of potential that got lost along the way.

The Ophidian items looked like they were going to be part of a continuing bit of fiction running alongside the Ricardo mess. What do the journals say and what are in the Orders? What happened to Ricardo? Even the Devs don't seem to be certain from what I heard in the last Town Hall. Instead, they'll be collected into the game-ether through a system to clean up dropped plotlines and vacuum them away.

The Rat coins... well, I kind of forgive them on this one. My "vision" was that the Treasury would want them back, but I can accept a Numismatist NPC (of course this is coming from someone who is a professional numismatist by trade). And speaking of the theme of that side-plot... what HAS happened to Sherry? She worked for a day or two, then failed to respond to anyone and now noone knows where she's gone except for occasional out of game "report" postings a while back.

Magincia Rubble: Seems like a LOT of it is better off as deco anyway... especially the flora-based pieces (both burnt and unburnt by player tastes). I could see someone turning in some of the walls and if they kept the "dust" particles, but some of the other stuff?

Moonglow items: Planesword and shield... might as well have been tickets anyway.

Then there are the cursed artifacts... some will be easily turned in, others not so much until people who have them and use them can afford The Real Thing™.

Power/Vanq/Mystic weapons: Maybe some of the extras that aren't used, but I doubt that people will part with one in their chosen weapon type with good mods.

Berserkers' (including Ophidian special weapons) Weapons: Either the point system is completely skewed to require these or noone is going to part with them.

Just too much lost possibility in terms of fleshing out a few different concurrent storylines so that people can have more access to more parts of the world to enjoy an ongoing event at the same time without camp-fatigue.

I hate to be a downer on the whole thing, but I have to agree that the first round doesn't really stoke my passion for the events going on in the game.

I'd rather see more work done on KR right now than a seemlingly half-hearted turn in.

At first thought, I felt the rewards were not adequate. But the more I think about it, the more I believe the planeshields and planeswords were easy to obtain. Threads were less abundant but Dark Wisps are easy to kill. Devs are being generous since the Fallen Warriors ALWAYS had an item to collect.

In all fairness, we should have to kill monsters for many hours before we get an item that is 1/10th of a turn-ins total value, like the Tokuno turn-in. For example. Getting 10th anniversary items now require many hours of killing monsters and could fairly be used in a Tokuno-like turn-in.

I too would like work on KR instead of content at the moment.

Tokuno saw a minor dropping every 15 minutes or so, so in 2 1/2 hours, you had enough for a major artie. One's that were actually very useful, and still very much looked for in basic suit building for many templates, not to mention the dyes. You can hardly compare Tokuno to this.

They are tieing loose ends up with CRAP. I pay 13$ a month for a game that maybe can get apublish out every two months? I guess it's time to move to WOW. 13 Years of UO and all I got to show for it was this LOUSY TSHIRT!

Ladies and Gentlemen of EA/Mythic, you are signing Ultima Online's Death Warrant.

I have been a UO Hermit now for 8 years, subjecting family and friends to my hours of gameplay, running six accounts that I play regularly and I have to say that this event has driven a spike though my heart. I was very disappointed by the beginning of this event, not to mention the previous events but I held on in hopes that this "Turn-in" would be either worthwhile or somehow new and inventive.

Statues? Shirts? Earrings? Look at past turn-ins and tell me if this even comes close to that. Nothing new, goodness nothing even interesting. I feel sorry for the drone above who thinks a Sherry the Mouse statue is so damned exciting. Treasures of Tokuno had useful items that we all loved. Clean up Brittania had items that are still coveted. This is nothing but a lack of imagination on the part of this Dev Team and a lack of respect for those of us who have devoted our game time exclusively to this world for these many years.

Your GMs stopped listening to us. The Counselors and Companions are gone. Factions were broken many years ago and this is your idea of a fix. The Dev team has used hybrids of spawn systems from previous Dev teams rather than come up with anything new for this current event. Berserker Deamons? Really? And for killing the largest creature we get a cursed item we cant turn in. For killing a vicious Fallen warrior we get a useless sword or shield that gets us the aforementioned garbage. For fear of unbalancing you have become stagnant and unimaginative.

Hear Us Or Die! UO IS NOT YOURS! It is OURS! Add to it! DEVELOP IT! UO may look immortal to you because of its apparent longevity but I remember it in its heyday and I can hear the death nail. The old timers who have given this community life are disheartened beyond despair. We see your passion, what we dont see is an understanding of what makes a UO Player excited. Again...SHIRTS??? EARRINGS??? MOUSE STATUES??? Am I the only one who doesnt give a RAT'S ASS about Sherry the MOUSE????

I need Items. I need Regs. I need Ingots. I need Armor. And instead of going and getting it I have been going to this stupid event every day now for weeks in hopes that this turn in would save UO for me. It HASNT! I am currently looking into selling my houses and closing up my accounts in hopes that taking a break from the game will give me perspective or perhaps line on a game that is NOT EA or Mythic related.

YOU ARE LOSING US! PAY ATTENTION!!!!!

You also weren't fighting other people like crazy for spawn. Yes, every warrior does drop a planesword/shield, but you are not guaranteed to be the one to loot it everytime. You also aren't always guaranteed to get any other item if a lot of other people are present at the invasion site.

Move on to WoW. If you think this is bad then you obviously have never played WoW. If grinding endless hours for the same items and never getting them excites you then by all mean WoW is for you. There are some players in WoW that have ran the same instances over 300 times (over a year) to get a single item. The RNG there is crap and because everything is BOP you can't even give items to an alt. If you think WoW is the game to mention just because a lot of people have bought boxes then I suggest you actually play end game WoW and see how much "better" it is then UO.

According to posters that sound exactly like you...

The death warrant for UO was signed 8 years ago. By rights, UO should have died at least 1000 deaths by now if you listen to posters that think they know how the players that pay $13 a month feel just because they also pay $13 a month. If you want to leave the game then do so.

What I find really disturbing is that the items have recycled graphics.

Besides the fact they are crap; they also look like everything else.

Yeah,

mouse/ratman there is no difference, they all attack you in UO.

But I will get one, cause its kind of cool, a different statue, ok deco item.

Expecting it to work as a town crier for like 2 events, then we will get an announcement, that it is not working as intended, and we will get a patch to remove this feature.

Not that it is any of my business, but...when in gods name did you stop being in the pom pom brigade?
You used to be all lollipops and unicorns.

What turned you so bitter?

Just do like my sig says, when EAMythic tells me how great something will be, I no longer get my hopes up. I just imagine the worse, then add 10% because its EAMythic. What can we really expect when you put a competitor in charge of your product?

I love the game, love my shard, and the community therein, wishes there was new management. Oh well back to moonglow.

I was actually kind of HOPING they'd recycle some rewards, but ones from the first Clean Up Britannia way back when. I hadn't been playing too long when they did that one, and managed to get enough points for a statue that was later recycled into a veteran reward (I think... it's been a long time!). I wanted the singing crystal ball though! I threw so much crap away trying to get one, but I didn't have a lot of crap and I had to make new crap to toss. I just didn't have enough time and resources to get one. I've wanted one ever since. Seems like a lot of the rares I pick up end up recycled into something else later, dropping the value like crazy. I was hoping this would work in my favor for once!

I want that thing on this list! Rehue it. Name it "A Musical Orb of Virtue." I don't care, I want that ball that makes all those noises in my house!

As listed, the rewards are a lot less exciting than the Tokuno ones, for sure. I agree the earrings ought to be blessed. Shirts will be covered up. I'll probably cash something in for boots and the Sherry statue, depending on what exactly I have to give up.

Since I don't like to complain without offering suggestions, how about designing a belt that goes where a half-apron would with those sayings? Let it add +2 strength or something. Not everyone has a Crimson. People have been begging for metal dye tubs for ages. Make it a high-end reward and do it. And don't forget the Musical Orb of Virtue!

wow. I've never seen a thread so [censored] up looking.

anyway, I said it in the last thread, I'll say it again, everyone who is complaining wants some kind of super item for PvM or PvP to get an advantage over everyone else. whatever. we don't need super items from these turn ins. but as I suggested in the last thread, instead of shirts and sashes, it would be much cooler if we could have some statuettes, or "life-size" statues (sorta like the one each shard has near West Brit Bank) for the themed turn-in sets. Like, Ophidian Berserker -- Invasion, 2008 etc. I have to say though, I love the "i survived the snakes on the plains" slogan
. however, the "(my faction) is #1!" slogans are pretty lame. couldn't we get something more appropriate, like, "Follower of Minax," "Loyal Servant of the Council," stuff like that?

the worst thing about clothes is it reminds us veterans of the travesty that was the AOS launch. for some, I am sure clothes seems like a similar appeasement. I enjoy the humor in some of the slogans, but, I wish we could have some more serious options, as well.

i can hardly see the earrings in the picture. but I like them
. I don't mind 600 gp for an extra slot, but blessed would be nice.

the sashes are a terrible idea. they devalue the old sashes. why are they included? Sherry the Mouse looks sorta like an old graphic with a different head. it looks very evil. I can't share my interest in the object, aesthetically, but the practicality of the item, should the Town Crier start working once more, is pretty neat.

the snake boots are fairly dull in color, which is in stark contrast with the proposed sashes, hm. I like the dull, natural, earthy colors, but the boots should be (as some have mentioned) at least +3 poison resist. I think it is a neat concept, and really, the only logical choice out of it all (I could see the npcs fixing these boots for us through turn-ins, although, I know tailors will be mad they cannot create them and mark them).

the knight armor looks cool. it should have some sort of special property that helps defeat berserkers, and monsters you need to use the special weps to kill.

clean up brit was made because UO had an item problem, no? this turn-in wasn't created because of item-stress, but player-stress, hehe. we collected too much, and bitched too much once we did. so this turn-in is nothing like the clean up brit programs of yester-year. although, I still envy phoenix armor owners ;D

oh, and by the way, Larisa, this whole black-rock infection, I think it has gotten out of hand. I'm worried I will contract whatever Stratics has and spread it to other message boards. is the situation contagious?
