A few questions for Zig_Mythic
Many are familiar with Zig_ Mythic as someone with a long history with Ultima Online and the community of players. We were given the opportunity to ask Zig a few questions this week and appreciate him taking some time to update us.
Can you remind us of your background with Ultima Online and how long you've been a part of the UO community?
I began playing UO towards the end of beta. After launch I settled on Pacific and played there pretty exclusively. Usually a solo player, I didn't venture too far from the safety of my humble (and cramped) little stone tower for months.
One day at the Brit bank I bumped in to a person who would change my UO life and, unbeknownst to me at the time, also affect my real life. JuffaArchui was part of a small group who had formed the Gathered Spirits Tavern (UO Herald Link) (Stratics Link). I attended one of the storytelling nights at the Tavern and over the next few months became more involved with the events, and soon was pulling a couple shifts tending bar.
Sadly, as we all know and have experienced, real life has a way of interrupting UO. The group eventually dwindled - but left an impression on me I carry to this day.
What does the title UO Liason entail? Can you give us a run down of your week's activities to be that liason?
I'm here to assist the players and the UO team by acting as a sort of conduit, helping facilitate communication. I spend a lot of time on various forums reading players' posts and passing concerns, ideas, bugs etc. along to the Devs and answering those questions I'm able to.
Are there specific areas you are looking at as you review forums that the community should be aware of and who is on the receiving end of the feedback you've gathered?
There aren't really specific areas as you may think of them. For instance, before a publish I'll be looking for feedback from TC. After a publish I'm watching for feedback, bugs, etc. and I'm always looking at anything else that people are posting about. Basically - I read everything, make a LOT of notes, and drive people crazy with IM's and emails.
Since you've started reviewing feedback the last few weeks, what are some of the more predominant topics you are seeing?
There are many, but communication is definitely towards the top of the list. It's getting better and will continue to. Alongside that are gameplay issues, client issues and many more items that we're passionate about seeing addressed.
What are some things the community of players can do or keep in mind as they report on problems and opinions they have with UO?
The number one thing I would say is to remember we all have ideas and opinions when it comes to UO and every one has merits in it's own way. When posting your opinions or ideas be respectful of what someone else posts. A logical - and polite - debate over an issue is more productive and beneficial to us all than is a rant-filled, +1 type post. Also please remember when you are reporting any issues it expedites resolution when info such as what client you are using, the shard you were on, what you were doing and what other programs were running is included in your post.
What are some things you can't tell us about as we head into this year? *evil grin*
I can't tell anyone about that one thing or that one time that other thing happened. Oh..and I can't say where I got this tattoo. *evil grin*
Thank you Zig and the rest of the UO team for allowing us a few more questions and keeping the line of communication open with the players. We wish you the very best as you move forward in this venture and hope we can support you with good feedback that enhances UO for everyone.
