New version of treasure.map file for UOAM

The following is a modified version of the last version of the UOAM treasure.map file, removing the little-used coordinate system (NWNE1, etc.) and replacing it with the Goodman coordinates. The "3" is the first line of the .map file.

If you are missing the map file, create a file called "treasure.map" with notepad, and paste everything below this block of text into it (starting with the line with the 3 and ending with the line for THB 9 / G 194), and save it.

Similarly, if you do have a treasure.map file, replace its contents with this data using notepad, and save.

WARNING: If Notepad tries to make you save it as a .txt file, change the bar to "all files" and the correct extension.
If it still saves as a .txt file, then go into Accessories, choose command prompt from the options, then change to the directory that contains the file using "CD" commands

Instructions for using command prompt menu to edit file extension.

"CD .." makes you go up one step, while "CD (directory name)" will take you to that directory within your current directory. In XP, you default start in C:\Documents and settings\(your user account name), so to get to a UOAM directory in the Program Files directory, you would use "CD .." twice, then "CD \program files\UOAM" (or UOCartographer, for that program). Once there, use the DIR command to see the list of files.

If Notepad screwed up and wouldn't let you use the extension properly, you'll have a file named either "treasure.txt" or "treasure.map.txt"
Now, use the REN command (syntax REN (oldfilename) (newfilename)).
So, if it saved as "treasure.map.txt", you would type "REN treasure.map.txt treasure.map".
Once it confirms the change was made, use the DIR command to confirm, then type EXIT to shut down the command prompt window.

It's actually what I had planned all along when I did the comparitive THB/Goodman listings a while back, but just now had the opportunity to do it.

Of course, I'd really like someone to double-check all my numbers to make sure I didn't mistype when I added the Goodman numbers - I typed it under the effects of a cold (and cold medication), and caught a couple while typing.

Basara Now that I have the UOAM map working again ( thanks to everyone for the help) I am confused about the differences using the old NWNE1 type coordinates and these new Goodman coordinates. All my runebooks are marked with the old system. I still have my beetle full of the old runebooks BTW. Do I just toss those runes out now? How do I reference the old runes with this new system? Gosh I hate being such a returning noob.

Well, practically no one was using that old system, and if your books were old enough to use it, they probably had some siting errors in them as well.

The two numbering systems on the revised file are the two systems used by most rune libraries created in the last 5 years. the THB numbers are the system on stratics, and the goodman numbers were created for another web site, for a rune library originally on (IIRC) Atlantic (that system's creator, gone from UO for several years, recently passed away and was memorialized in game, much as Grog was).

Note: remember that you must activate the map file in UOAM by going into the settings and putting a check mark by the "treasure" entries.

This includes making sure "treasure" is checked in the "Filter" tab, and also in the "Files" tab.

1. Create a file with Notepad called treasure.map in the UO Cartographer diectory.
a. Note, to do this, you need to save the file NOT as a text (TXT) file, but change it to "All files", then type out the full name in the file name when you "Save as".
b. Alternatively, copy an existing *.map extension file, and rename it treasure.map

2. Make sure that the new treasure.map file is empty, then paste the contents between the dotted lines into it, with the "3" as the first line.

3. Save the treasure.map file, again, making sure that you DO NOT save it as a .TXT file.

4. Note that this can be harder than it seems, in Vista and Win7, because they appear to have some immoral compunction against letting people add/alter files in the "program files" directory. You may have to do this via a command prompt (which may require varying levels of DOS-fu).

5. Once this is done, make sure that the "treasure" box is checked in the filters.

Did UO change the treasure locations? because all of the locations you provided here are not correct to the locations in the game anymore. Is there a updated location list i can copy to my treasure.map file?
