Noticed that also, I wonder if he will be able to make UOAssist
SA friendly.

there was a comment years ago from EA that no 3rd party program would ever again be granted a stamp of approval for in game use other then what is allready in, and they made it sound as if they regretted having those in.

that coupled with how much the new macros and mapping system are striving to get close to what we all have and love i would say they are trying to make the transition to not having any 3rd party programs in UO in the future.

Would Tugsoft also be the one able to update UOAM with SA?
No he wouldn't. If UOAssist is updated for the new client UOAM will work. However none of the 3 new areas (Underworld, Ter Mur, Stygian Abyss) will be available in UOAM.

Very clearly they want people to switch and very clearly people want the abilities from UOAssist. They should just accept that this is part of the game and work with them to, in the words of Tim Gunn, "make it work."

I actually play SA and I am perfectly happy, but it's clear this is a sticking point for a lot of people. Making people choose betwen UO Assist and SA is not going to work out with SA being the winner.

Actually the choice is between UOAM and SA.. UOA is just the middleman people would be forced to use to get UOAM to work.

on my system its either KR or crash.
i really am trying to get the SA client working but it seems to have the same bugs as 2D. :(
crash on recall, crash on opening up paper-dolls, crash on opening up trade windows.
crash when logging out.. (the client closes when i click logout)
when it crashes often alot of my macros just disappear.

the #1 problem with SA, it uses up 1.5gb of ram on my system. causes my system to swap out everything.. when i minimize it, to say open up pidgin to chat, it grinds away on the hard drive.. then say 70% of the time, it wont re-maximize.. i get a black screen. my mouse can be seen, moving around you can hear footsteps, it just wont redraw the background..

i know its beta.. but they only have a couple weeks to fix all of this..

moving to SA without KR is a really bad decision.. :(

UO Assist received a new patch today.

Also, Tugsoft posted an intriguing tidbit of information on his website this morning: "Still no word back from EA/Mythic on 3d client topics."

Go to http://www.tugsoft.com/UOAssist/default.asp for more info.
I downloaded this client today and have yet to get it to work! Do you happen know if there is a bug with it? I can only get it to download 1 file, and then when I click the continue button it crashes and says I am missing a UOPatcher.

Thanks for any help here on Stratics, I also have an email in to the people at Tugsoft.

The "Enhanced" client (really wish they'd gone with something less ironic as a name) is no longer tied to the Stygian Abyss expansion. They're pushing ahead with the expansion and finishing the client "later". Meanwhile they're adding new features to Classic so people don't feel the need to migrate to Enhanced.

As for KR being totally abandoned (not supported in the expansion), it's a bit of a kick in the teeth to users who actually embraced the new, who themselves created some of its better features, and who have basically been beta-testing for years.

Hopefully Enhanced won't need external apps like AutoMap or Assist, those features should be coded in.

Would UO assist really be that useful with SA ?
Yes. Several of the "agents" in UO Assist have not been cloned. The ones I use most often are:

- Organize - This agent lets you specify a particular container in your backpack to hold specific items. You assign a particular keystroke to the function of moving the specified items into the selected container. I use this function every time I buy a big batch of runes for a rune marking expedition to automatically move them into a bag in my backpack.

- Sell - This agent lets you specify a particular container in your backpack to hold items that you want to automatically sell to NPCs. I use this agent when I train certain crafting characters, such as a carpenter. I make the shields in the container associated with the sell agent and then I approach the carpenter NPC and use the Sell function on its context menu. All the shields in the bag are automatically sold to the carpenter in one action.

- Vendor - I rarely use this agent. However, it lets you pre-assign a price to items that you routinely put on a vendor so that they are automatically priced for you as you place them on a vendor. You can assign a specific price to a specific item or indicate that the price should be a particular multiple of the price the game normally uses as a default price for the item.

In addition, UOAssist lets you build more complicated macros than the Enhanced client does. For example, you cannot create a macro in the Enhanced client to use a specific type of ninjitsu animal form. The closest you can get is to bring up the animal form gump. As another example, with UO Assist you can make a two-step macro to track a particular form (e.g., animals or NPCs). With the Enhanced client, the best you can do is bring up the first tracking gump and you have to pick a form from there. The same is true of any other skill or spell that has two gumps to it...the Enhanced client can only get you to the first gump, but UOAssist can go further than that.

Some other nice features of UO Assist that are perhaps not as nifty but are noticeably absent from the Enhanced client are the ability to surpress certain sounds (e.g., horses neighing, cats meowing, dogs barking, sheep baahing); see yourself in a particular form while a ghost (e.g., as a chicken, which means your screen shots aren't monochromatic and therefore more interesting to others); pick a default color to display other characters' text (no more squinting to read that impossible default yellow); automatically surpress the gump that notifies you of vet rewards, keep track of skill gains since you logged on; and display in your journal and on the screen a count of items in a container when you open the container.

And last but not least, UO Assist works with UO Automap. The Enhanced client has a nice map and atlas feature and hopefully someone can mod it to make the atlas resizable. What it lacks and what will probably always prevent its wide acceptance is the ability to have individuals log in to a secure server so they show up on the map/atlas to other individuals also logged into the same server. The Enhanced client has some "group" tracking abilities, but they are very limited (e.g., have to be partied and only shows characters in the same vicinity).

UOAssist is not a client itself, but rather an addon to the classic client. You have to have the classic client installed, then run UOAssist and it will launch your client and start the game. You may need to point UOA in the right direction if you didn't install UO in the normal folder.
