New treasure map locations

Hello fellow treasure hunters!
I haven't tried any of the new treasure maps yet. My question is: Are the new treasure map locations totally random, thus rendering the treasure hunting rune libraries useless? I would appreciate that, as previously treasure hunting was totally without challenge.

Yes, they're random, but actually, no the old libraries aren't totally useless. They will still give access to the remote areas of the land. How else would you get to a map location on the islands? Or the Jungle south of Trinsic?

Everyone assumes the old libraries will be useless, and as Petra points out they are very helpful getting you to remote spots. I started making my own books to all the islands in case my favorite library closes. I hope they stay just the way the are, or perhaps trimmed down with general area locations rather than specific T_Map locations.

Considering there are already runes in every library marking landmarks (shrines, islands, towns, mining caves, forest areas, taming areas, etc.) I see no reason to keep the old t-map runebooks. Once the 30-days are up, mine are trash. Maybe the ratmen in the cavern of the discarded can find a use for them...

Thanks for the answers! I will dump the United Pirates treasure hunting library too, as we already got runes to all remote places of Sosoria.

Thinking about it further, I know my rune library well enough to get anywhere fast, but someone unfamiliar with my particular set-up would be lost.

I think I am going to end up overlaying each map with a numbered-grid (maybe 80x80 paces per grid square?) and marking each grid-square in the center. This would help cover areas not covered under the old map system, yet still keep the library "user friendly".

Any idea yet on how many runebooks that will take? 80x80 seems like a lot of runes, especially if you include Trammel, Felucca, Malas and Ter Mur. I'll have a separate runebook(s) for the Islands, but for the rest I like your idea.

I still have uoam and the new cart mapping system and quite frankly I see no reason to dismantle my library.
The current T hunting will still show up area and using uoam the closest old rune # will get me there quickly and with little fuss.
This along with my mining cave collection of books for malas, the popular sights of Tokuno, and Ter Mur.
The only bad thing I see is they never allowed us to make runes in Ish. I would ask for this but not sure how it will go over. They originaly stoped it for the champ spawns but honestly the Tram end of the champs is kinda lac luster for all the work with little output and many quit doing it.
Cal if you read this, think it over about allowing runes to be made in some areas of Ish. Its a big area to walk.

We'll see how random. A level 6 next to a Luna house, now that thar would be funny.

80x80 may be too aggressive - I'll have to look further and see what's realistic. I went to the Stratics map for treasure hunters and looking at it, there are huge areas of trammel that were never covered. I think keeping the current libraries as is will leave out large sections.

Unless the Libraries also have runes to every single Island.. Like mine. Just off of West Zento in Europa.. *shamless plug* :D

For Malas I think I'm gonna break up a map of it into a 4x4 area and then have 16 runes spaced out from each other, with some leeway. It's practically a square anyways, though the mountains get in the way here and there. I also have a runebook for the pouch locations as well as where they go to, which has been fairly handy so far.

I did end up weakening and went and dug up some chests. It was fun! I enjoyed it. I like that we get new stuff, though I'd probably cut the armor/weapon loot in half by numbers. I don't even look at that stuff, now that we can imbue whatever we need. It all gets dumped in monster corpses till I get few enough items in the chest I can count what is left and compare to the mouse over number on the chest so I can stop spawning monsters and poof the chest.

The only really annoying part is having to swap out LP and mining every chest I dig up. There's just no more room on my template and nothing else I can swap out (disco tamer t hunter).
