New to Siege Perilous

Hello,

I've been playing UO for about 7 months now on Pacific, but I decided to roll a character on SP tonight. I just want to say hi, and get to know some of the locals. From what I understand, this is a lightly populated server, so I'm assuming that making connections within the community will be an important part of playing here. Anyway, I hope to have some memorable experiences on this shard, and maybe make some good friends. My character's name is Montague D'Ville, and I look forward to seeing some of you in Britannia.

Welcome to Siege. I highly recommend that you consider joining NEW, our helper guild here. They will give you basic equipment, advice, a guildhall for training, and fellow guildmates in the same position as you. Also, the few PKs that are on Siege will generally go easy on NEW members.

I know that I want to play a necromancer, but I'm debating between the pure necromage template on these boards and the necro/bard. Can anyone give me some recommendations or advice on the template that will be more successful on Seige Perilous? The only thing I will say is that I don't want to play a sampire.

I haven´t enough experience with necromancy to give advice but maybe some more info is needed for others.

Will it be PvM or PvP?
Will you be running mostly solo or planning to get with a group?

I'm not sure yet. I guess it depends on what I find on Seige Perilous. I'm mostly interested in roleplay, but if I find that I must engage in some pvp in order to exist on SP, then I will take that into consideration while training. Of course, I would always prefer to pvp or pvm in a group, but it seems to me that that might be difficult on a server such as SP where other players are somewhat difficult to come by.

You should definitely aim to join a guild in the end as Siege has always been quite a lonely place if you are running solo. As to what template "works" on Siege, pretty much the same as anywhere else except something that requires lots of high-end items to be effective. My advice has always been to play what you enjoy playing rather that whatever is flavour of the month.

That said, if you are going necro then personally I would run with magery/eval/necro/spirit/resist/med or similar rather than putting in bard skills as well. There are not many PKs out there these days, but they are there.

I'm also going to roll a character before I leave to go out of town this weekend. It will be challenging with the siege ruleset, and having become used to a house in magincia to run to, but I want to give it a shot.

I'm really interested in crafting and resource gathering, and I hear that Siege is the place to do that.

Siege is a great place to craft and farm resources, someone other crafter or player is always looking for supplies. When you get on, ask in general chat for someone to get you some beetles.
