(Question) New Thief

Hi,

I am sort of new to UO (again) but used to play years and years ago. The other servers aren't how I remember hte game, so I thought I would play on Siege Perilous. I am noticing there are much fewer people on, so I thought I would come here.

Does anyone know any players that play a Thief character? I need advice on the subject and also would like to join a guild and perhaps have a group to adventure with when I am on.

I am a UK based player.

There is a Thieves guild run by Ladra - Barter Town Inc (I think ^_ _^ )

Ducky was a member so maybe he could tell you more.

A guy named ll hangs out in Luna and he has helped me clean up my backpack more than once.

Just hang around luna with something worth stealing and you will get to know them quick.

There are no thieves on siege!...unofficially there is a thieves guild run by Ladra called Barter Town Inc [^__^]...ask for Ladra or Henry Swift for more info on them.

My thief left barter town for social reasons, I am still friends with them and they are a good group of people. If you want any thief specific advise feel free to PM me or ask for me in game!

I retired my Siege thief about 4 years ago since it was getting incredibly hard to find anyone other than another thief.

We had to take up Hiding & Stealth in pure self defense. Between the homicidal folks & lightfingered folks, it was adapt or go back to <gasp> prodo.

Still keep finding feathers in my pockets though. <grumbles>...

I even had detect hidden in my template and the only peeps that popped up were the thieves. so unless Siege has had a huge influx of peeps I expect similar results.

Welcome back, McStoker! I've had to take a RL-induced hiatus, but I'm around occasionally. Shout for me, Ladra, or Vizzerdrix in Chat. I have seen a lot of people around who probably could have been stolen from. I am pretty sure I could have been a victim a lot of times as well as I was wandering about with all sorts on me! Nothing overly valuable though! Though most people who spot me walking around seem to leg it as fast as possible! I must have that look about me or something! I have seen a fair few people about in Dungeons as well but we did not fight. Which is sort of weird for me as usually I cant resist the temptation to shoot first and ask questions later! lol

Actually, come to think of it I have already been a victim of theft in Luna Bank when I wrongly accused a nearby fellow of stealing my bow when I unequipped it only to find it in my pack and be informed that he did not steal it, yet. As he then stole it and flung it on the ground before running off into the shadows. Was quite a hilarious moment I thought myself! I wasnt too worried about my bow anyway but as I said he left it on the ground for me, so it was quite an amusing lesson for me! I look forward to contributing to the mischief soon!

I did however get my goose to my bank with no problems! lol

FYI I am a UK based player (Northern Ireland) So am probably on at strange hours if you are American players!

I Love the Rogues on SP! Good ppl!! Rogue/thieves were always my first choice in RPG style games ever sinc i first played D&D/AD&D and Ultima exodus for the NES in the late 80's Tryd a thief on prodo shard and gave t up a week after mastering all my skills, getting a suit made then finding out how imposible it was to be a successful rogue there. If i ever get another account or like 4 more SS ill make a thief and really hve some fun

ya i *tried* going rogue on atlantic ...paid uber gold for uber suit, got thief skills maxxed and ninja up to like 70 ish...made a few runs...never stole a thing!!!! *sigh* <<due to my most hated foe...insurance>> and put thief on back burner. Ever since playing ULTIMA:EXODUS [ultima3]and ULTIMA:QotA [ultima 4] for the NES in the late 80s/early 90's my favorite template has always been thieves......one of these days ill do something about this....possably sooner then later perhaps?? *crowd holds breath in anticipation!!!*

Any method less tedious than stealing stacked empty bottles from a packy for raising Stealing? As far as I know, that is still the only method that doesn't require another guilded player present and willing to serve as a living pickpocket dip. XD

That is how it's done. And yes, it's awful. Stealing is one of those skills that really benefits from ROT though. The good thing is that you do not need to get anywhere near 120 to start having fun. Easiest thing to make a profit from stealing is scrolls, and since they only weigh 1 stone you can start hunting at maybe 70 and still get away in town. Bless a burglars bandana and get some +stealing jewels and you can steal almost anything from the get go. Barter Town can provide you with the items you need.
