is it just me or are they really trying to discourage new players from playing this game, what they just did to shame is nuts i have been in shame for a bout a month gaining skills for my char plus loot for disimbuing and now i cant even get past the entrance due to the difficuty of the trolls, there is uping things alittle bit and then there is overpowing to the point where the game is more work than fun. Could some on tell me where to find earth eles that arnt on steroids or have friends that kill in one shot? remember my char only has about 600 points into skills and i dont have max on stats yet.

Sorry to hear bout your probs with shame bro. If your just looking for earth els, you can rock the second lvl of despise. There are earths that normal spawn fairly quicky and some ettins too. from the entrence to second level move north and west till you get to the green pools on the ground. Usually it is inhabited by two earthys at a time.
Happy hunting.

I just went down there and i got to say i had a lot of fun with the updates.
as far as your char not being up on skills yet, id say rock with a bro that is up or a party of peeps not up. I think you'll have fun down there if you just rock as a group. the sense of accomplishment for your char is going to be greater than mine, which makes me jelous ( i almost want to start a new guy just to go in)( not! lol) but still. I think if you need a bro to run down there with ill roll with you or anyone of the fine Sosarian's that you see at the bank. I know RBG, OATH, SHE and many others are down for a crawl, all you got to do is ask'em.
Hope you take the advise but either way i hope you have a good time.
Dueces.

I noticed all the monsters in Shame got a hitpoint buff but I do like the changes. I can see how it might be tougher for newer players/characters though.
On the otherhand, perhaps that means they'll cater Despise and the various graveyards more to newer players. (And on a side note, am I the only one that thinks that graveyards should be fairly quiet during daylight and way more active at night?)

I will probably be going down there tonight with some from RBG if you want some help.

Wow! The elemental groupings are a mage fest of ca-ca. Though I bet a hunt in the blood elemental room would produce some nice loot. Some of these items have super crazy properties. And just when I got good at creating imbued suits... oh well. now, where's my luck suit... *rummages through house*

There's a ton of stuff for new players to do outside of the dungeons.

Since most of the playerbase are longterm players with artifacts and other gear that make so much so easy they whine about it. The DMs are upgrading the dungeons to provide challenge.

Personally I'm not into monsters that take 40 or 50 spells to even half kill, but oh well. <yawns> <shrugs>

Better AI would have been the way to go.

Earth Elementals can be found in Despise as mentioned above. And also in Orc Dungeon I believe. And there are way more creatures and areas of the world to provide good training and good loot than just elementals in Shame dungeon.

I can also assure you the world has had for years, many creatures and dungeons much harder than the entrance to Shame Dungeon. The exploration and learning is part of the fun of the game. So no UO isn't trying to discourage new players from playing. You are just in the wrong place at the wrong time unfortunately. Will you look back in a month or so and say ...Wow Earth Elementals in Shame are easy! Yes most definitely. And yes it does take time and work to gain skill, I have played for 14 years now and I still learn new things about the game. That is what makes UO fun and exciting. So good luck and I hope you stick with the adventure!

The elementals haven't had a huge hitpoint boost and they don't seem any tougher generally (so that just means you'll be fighting them for a bit longer which means more skill gains if you're training, right?). I am training a swordy/bard so I will relate my experience in more detail at a later date!

Also, the mud pies are pretty puny and the scorpions didn't seem much different.

I am very much against just piling hit points on to things, but I don't think this was overdone. Sure, you can't drop the elementals with a single explo/ebolt/harm combo now, but it won't take you fifty spells. And slayers will still churn them up!

Of course, it remains to be seen what they do with the other dungeons. I hope they are all balanced appropriately.

The crazed mages, EV on steriods, and older than old gazers all have extreme hit points. However, they seem to be the boss guys of shame and the HP levels are not too much, I don't think, considering the loot (cursed, but still) that they supply you with. After only killing a couple, I had 5 or 6 legendary artifacts which have properties out of this world!!!

I think the dungeon is a great improvement over the age-old spawn of 1997. And for the first time in years and years, I get excited to see what loot the guys on the recieving end of my axe have on their bodies. Much better than sitting at Navery for hours waiting for a tangle to drop.

I have also noticed that some areas are so packed with high level spawn that only a large guild hunt would have any hope of securing the dungeon area. While I'm running around the dungeon on my own, I get frustrated with such an obviously unbeatable area... but now that I've thought about it, I prefer multiple numbers of tough spawn vs one rediculously massive monster man who kills you in one hit as you run by on the same screen as him.

Lastly, I think that new players (not day old, but skills in the 80/90 levels) would be able to master level 1 just fine. Also, a pair or newer players could even rock some action on level 2 with supporting heals etc. Though I like to train in ettin village over my ilsh honesty with my new chars.

Happy hunting everyone!

I think it’s not too bad. Will newer players have to go in a group or with a more experienced player? Possibly. That being said that is a good example of how most of the other dungeon spawns are with far lesser monsters. The only new boosted monster is those mud guys and they are not too bad. I would say this dungeon should be good around 75. I am actually thinking about heading there on some of my less developed characters for some fun and items.

I went on Chessy on a developed character and was happy with the spoils (relic fragments mostly). I took a developing character on Atlantic and had a little difficulty. The character was using +skill jewels to hit 100 fencing, had 80+ tactics, 80+anat, 60+heal, 60+ bushido, and prob about 50 chiv. I was doing ok, but often would get swarmed and have no recourse but to run away. Overall, the skill gains were good for the time spent and the loot was mediocre. I ultimately went back on a mage.

I don't expect new players will fare all that well on their own. If you don't have a 70 phys resist suit, enough melee to prevent getting hit constantly, and enough non-failing healing it will be nothing but frustration.

I spent a little bit of time there, loved it.
Got whacked by 3 water eles, (cant remember the last time that happened)

LOVED it, at any rate I think its a good change.. I mean besides training a new char why did you go to shame, or did you? I never did... well tram side anyway

It should make things more interesting for awhile but I am sure somebody will come up with an easy way to do it. Thats what we do figure out the easy way that the devs never came up with.
