Greetings to all rares collectors out there:)

I have been playing uo for a few years and idocig a great deal ... Over the years i have traded the rares etc from idocs built up my gold reserves and then watched it dwindle again as i spent on stuff that at end of day can only be described as ...cr*p.

Now i wish i didnt sell half of it so i am gonna start buying some rares (need some stuff to go with the 1 higher end rare i kept - My eye of newt :p)

So as i said i have limited gold at the mo so i am looking for items that are around the 5 mill mark maximum or a couple/few items worth less individually but total does not exceed 5 mill!!

Got anything for sale or for offer then please feel free to post here, i will be checking back

thank you in advance

You should try and get some rares at invasion like rubble. 5M will not get you that much really. If I were you, I would buy and sell with that 5M to make it 50 and more.

But you really want a rare for 5M or under, I would look for old sewn by with blessed tag pieces of clothing. You can find them for decent price sometimes and they tend to stay desirable + it is a great way to start a set.

There is a rubble FAQ thread by me somewhere on 2nd or 3rd page. It might be of some help.

I'm pretty sure luna is not the ideal place for vendors on Europa, I believe its actually the road leading north west out of umbra where there are shops such as Gwen Alcestis's( SP, sorry) Blue Wolf Traders, amongst others.

i own a shop on that road i wont give a name to it here but it attracting peoplke yet they seem unwilling to part with cash even tho i undercut most of the big shops

They were originally named "Deed" and sold for about a mil or so last year, but have become substantially more common, and then during a recent patch were changed to "unknown". I'ld say worthless, but they do sometimes sell for 100-200k, maybe alil more.

I have owned several shops outside of luna- one just outside and several on the luna roadsides too and u really need to work hard with gating from wbb and a few runedrops per day to get peoples attention to frequent your shop daily or weekly....

The beauty of a luna vendor is simple...u can still do the rune drop and gating thang but u will also get the casual trade/passers bye from the other shops inside luna and also most x/traders visit the luna malls too and there is also a program/website that lists all the items people have for sale inside luna city (and thats free!!) so yes being inside luna is the place to be!!!!! however buying a luna house is expensive indeed....

Luna does have its benefits, but a mall outside of Luna has some as well, granted it will require some time investment, and some hard work but it can pay off.

The Treasure Trove Mall on Atlantic is an excellent example of this, which Tomas Bryce & Xel Naga can both attest to. The houses that comprise that mall have rents ranging from 50k-200/250k, which is higher than many houses w/in Luna on Atlantic, as well as many other shards. In addition the vast majority of the shards population, as well as players on many other shards are familiar with the Mall and the traffic which flows through the area often rivals that of Luna, as do the prices!

Very true!!! my old shop IdocHunters of europa was indeed a testement to this rule...it was a very well used 18x18 just outside of the east walls....also had a quest runebook libary too which did help the trade/custom to the shop, and like u say with time and effort (gating and plenty of runedrops and good pricing ) then indeed a shop outside of luna city can do very well too...

Also true would be new shops around Blue Wolf as that as become a very busy area for trade!!

The benefits being inside of the walls i never believed myself untill i moved in there...i spend much less work promoting the shop , and the trade is awsome and like i said the website that lists all luna city vendor items prices is cool and totally free, no idea how they do it though!!

No I definitley agree, being in Luna makes life much easier in some ways, I simply place items on my vendors there at any house and things just sell, and sell, and sell. But at the same time its very easy to grow distant from your customers, and lose the connection with them that makes a non luna mall special and popular. Plus many people fall into the luna mind frame which is to over price everything.

TWO great points ...
Over pricing in Luna is a problem true.....
Close and personal touch (community feel) is also very nice if u have the time to do it.

Well, having the time is nice, but sometimes its enough to simply spend 15 or 20 minutes chatting with people at wbb, or with customers at your shop. Responding to messages on your message board, or assisting customers looking for items.

It's the little things that customers appreciate and remember, and when they do, theyll pass it on to a friend or several, and thats increased buisness for you.

While I don't have the time every day based on my job in real life, and other personal responsibilities, I try to allocate alittle time each day when I'm at home to chatting with people that come into my houses and helping them with questions/problems, and at least from what I've seen so far it makes a difference.

I must say that i agree with the overpricing in luna. I go to Luna often looking at what things sell for and trying toprice my items.

I like the possition of my shop and i would only consider changing the location for a few reasons which are: -

1. That i could move it to the other side of the road so the shop front was on the roadside and not the back of the building

2. That i could get a nice spot on tokuno roadside (europa) but then traffic here is very limited now the tokuno event is over

3. I got a good house in Luna - although i looked into this and there was a couple of people willing to sell the houses but i was amazed when a friend broght what could be no more than 10 by 10 for 100 mill and when i asked a well known player how much they would take for their plot there (not much more than 13 by 10 i would guess) i was told they take no less than 200 mill !!

My shop is located near to Blue Wolf Traders (carry on up the road to a house / museum owned by fredrik Il Belo then cross road and go south for about 2 seconds)

I love the spot it gets frequent passers by due to other big shops on the road especially BWT just wish i could go other side of road but oh well! lol

and at a cost of 3mill for the plot it seems a lot better than paying 100 or 200 mill for a plot which is a lot smaller than the 18 by 18 i have now!

In a thread i posted here before - i stated i am a new rares collector, and i am

also said i have limited cash - and i do!

Let me put it this way - My shop is called "GOLDSTRETCHERS - Making your Gold STRE-------TCH Further" based south side of that busy Umbra Road that BWT is on.

I stock lots from Regents in 1000's on commodit deeds through to higher end things like potted plants and trees etc

My problem is i am trying to make the shop popular by stocking a variety of items that appeal to lots of players to keep them coming back again and again. However most people come back for what i call the lower end items - I cant keep my solen vendor stocked for long before it all goes. But when it comes to the higher end things even though i am very competetive with the bigger shops i just cant seem to get that higher end buyer trade!!
Hence i sometimes feel i am spending more on vendor payments than i am making.

Also no matter how much i spam free vendor spots i find it very hard to get people to place vendors and then stock them up - i reckon if the shop had a few more vendors it would become more popular!
Again also find it hard to keep all vendors stocked to the same levels as the likes of alc do - i cant afford to buy items like she does at the moment and i do a lot of idocs (these dont gaurentee the stock levels needed tho lol) but quite often my work shifts mean i am not home at times idocs fall so this is another problem i have with getting stuff

This is where i have to hold my hands up to people like Alc and Leto (when he ran 2's company) on europa shard. I have the ultimate respect and admiration for them - They show you dont need to be in Luna and also are great examples of how shops should be!

I would just like to add if anyone has a need for a vendor please keep GOLDSTRETCHERS in mind - leave me a message onmy shop notice board!

Also - Alc/ Amatala / (sorry i forget your char name) Owner of IDOCHUNTERS shop - keep up the good work ur shops r great

First, take advantage of your more established neighbors in two ways.

1. use their advertising/traffic to increase the traffic at your house. Drop runes
in public locations such as banks, moon gates, and at other more establishe
& popular malls. Also gate reguarly during the busiest hours of the day.
2. price your merchandise cheap enough that the owners of the more
established malls come to you to purchase stock.

Second, Until you are an established level its often best to avoid using vendors for high end merchandise as you may not recieve the traffic thats necessary to sell the items at a competitive price, and a rate thats fast enough to provide you with the money you need to reinvest. Take advantage of trade boards/popular loitering locations as was mentioned by I believe Tophouseplotter.

Third, Free vendor spots while they seem alluring lead to players who do not have high quality wares to sell, or whom do not have regular high quality wares. It might seem odd but free vendors generally equate to bad vendors, and this is b/c ppl who are making a profit can afford to pay more and will do so for the better locations. Those who make a small profit or no profit can not afford to pay more and therefore generally do not. So essentially do not give out free vendors, always charge something

I'm currently working on a new updated player manual on how to successfully run vendors/vendor malls and become wealthy, which will include a section on rares collecting/trading and will contain quotes and bits of advice from prominent members from the merchant and rares community, so once ive completed it ill send you a copy if yould like. it will probably be at least several weeks before its completed, possibly longer though.

I'm personally a member of the Treasure Trove, which I think was an excellent choice by its founder. The name is easy to remember, and can easily be refered to as TT which makes it even easier to remember. My personal vendors are all labeled as DVI, which again is a very easy name to remember. If someone shops from my vendors they're bound to remember one of the two names, and if they like the wares they see on my vendors then theyre more likely to make an effort to remember where my vendors are and what theyre called so they can return.

Just a quick comment to DVI's statement about free vendors not being a good idea: i fear this is different on Europa. Here NOBODY charges for vendor spots as far as i know. At least I don't.

And mister gold stretcher: don't feel bad, I can't get decent vendorkeepers anymore either. The shard is dead and on topof that, the people who have the ability to run good vendors prefer opening their own shops instead of teaming up with established ones it seems

Why don't you just get vendors at my place btw? *grins*

oh and:

I personally find it very lame to drop runes at other shops. When i see runes around my place, i pick em up and use em to stock my own rune vendor. And I write down the name of the shop so i don't forget who i'm supposed to dislike :p

If you consider it from the point of view that it's someone smaller than you, who most likely does not have any overlap in terms of wares then it should be considered a compliment that they think you are a popular enough and well trafficed enough location to drop runes at. If theyre gating from your mall thats a different matter though, but rune dropping generally won't generally cause a drop in buisness as most people tend to have a prefered vendor mall, or merchant.

Plus it might be worth your while to go take a peek at their shop and see if you can find any deals to stock your own vendors with.

When i have run a shop or had a vendor or 2 on my doorstep i have to admit i found it iritating that other shop owners dropped runes at my location.

All they had to do was ask if i would lock a rune to their shop down on my steps and i would gladly have done it if they locked a rune to my shop down on their steps - one favour for another and so forth!

As a note to Alc from BWT i have often looked at having a vendor or 2 maybe 3 at your shop - however the items i sell are very simular to ones i see on vendors with your name at bwt - example flowerpots and so on. So i wasnt sure if you would want the competition at your shop.

Oh just re-read my last post - wondered if i may be cheeky here -

Thank thee i hope:p

It not often i would log in just to defend someone in this way but in truth i feel it needs saying: -

Whilst you think alc is rude - well thats ur opinion and ur free to make up your own mind there i dont have any knowledge of run ins that you two may have had!

As for alc being overpriced well .........

In europa at the mo u have two choices - although many good shops out there in europa they either tend to be small or specialised so its a case of recalling around them all and looking for your item through numerous vendors untill u find it or you go to BWT.

You see Alc may charge more than ur average vendor but for the pure convienience of her 99.9% of the time having the item you want in stock is it not worth paying that little more for the ease of just being able to find what you need?

*normally i wouldnt say this as it seems i pushing possible customers away from my shop to someone elses - BUT all you have to do is look at how popular the shop BWT is!!!!

If people hated the prices that much or as much as you seem to think my friend they wouldnt shop there!!!!

And i know many a little shop keeper would love to have the shop she has!!

So i am affaid to me it sounds as either you are jealous or just plain rude!!!!!

I

imported_gwen_alcestis

Guest
Well, actually i repriced all my items a few weeks back. So that they would become CHEAPEST of all .. reasonable shops. But guess what? Everybody just lowers their prices with me, so again become the most expensive. Not my fault.

I have asked before on the Europa forum for people to *TELL ME* if they find things to expensive. I may just agree and lower the price you know... Then again i may also NOT agree and not lower the price, and then i'm rude

Anyway, having a good shop has nothing to do with how you think of me as a person as far as i'm concerned. I may be rude at times (usually with reason), but that doesn't keep me from stocking my vendors

Location isn't the most important thing. It certainly helps, but if you do enough advertising you'll get traffic. Reputation also helps.

I used to have a vendor (pre-trammel) on fire isle that did very well. ALmost no one went to fire isle but people came to my shop. I did a little advertising (dropping runes) and the rest was word of mouth from prices and service.

I had a vendor shop (post-trammel) at the entrance of Destard, fel. Lots of pvp going on in the area. I was killed once by a couple of PKs, but they were immediatly killed by other reds, they ressed me and appologised for the guys that killed me. My shop always had cheap emergency supplies and I would res any who needed it, and I would give them whatever they needed to get back to their body. The other shop at the entrace charged huge prices for simple stuff. I saw no need for that. I can run a shop, make money, and also provide a good service to those that shop with me.

I also ran some vendors at the brit moongate when that was popular. That was where I did the most advertising. The week was spent gathering the supplies for the weekend, and then I would advertise via trading web pages and rune drops. Again never charging more than I needed to to make some money.

After AOS came out I had 3 houses inside Luna, the 3 closest to the moongate, but I never really pushed those vendors. I was on my way out of UO at that point. I wish I had them back now though. lol

Basically the moral of my story is that well run vendors will work, no matter the location, as long as you have a good reputation with service. Location does help, but if prices are too high or if you are a jerk to customers, I won't shop there, even if you do have something I need.

I'm sure there is one listed somewhere on stratics, at least im assuming so. It's very possible that no one ever bothered to make one, but I've recieved alot of requests for information from friends, contacts, and other acquaintances lately, so I decided it was worth while to put one together.
