New Player Guide?

I recently activated a 12 month account that I stopped using last year (was just holding a house I no longer needed), so I figured I would try out creating new chars in KR. Well I created a new warrior, did the newb quests and got my skills to 50 and then cast Sacred Journey on the "Dark One" rune, well I fizzled and the rune turned black and I couldn't cast on it again. I then created another new char and went thru the same process and this time successfully cast and had my battle with the Dark Knight and won a reward of "Ring of the Savant" (heals damage). The next day I logged on to the 1st char I had created and the dark one rune was no longer black and I was able to cast SJ on it and battled the Dark Knight again, this time rewarded with an Echo Staff (does some damage when you double click it and target a mob). So today I created a 3rd char (Samurai) did all the new quests (including chiv) and once again I fizzled on the SJ and the rune turned dark.

Well I decided to look up some information on this quest to see what the rewards were, so I went to http://www.uo.com and on the right panel there was a button (link) to the New Player guide http://www.uo.com/newplayer/newplayer01.html. I started reading and OMG, the 1st thing it says is to choose your client, 2d or 3d, I was like wtf, 3d has been gone for well over a year and there's no mention of KR at all.

I have read several posts by Jeremy in the old stratics forums and she has stated shes updating some guide. Can anyone give me a link to the guide, because every link on the uo.com site takes you to out of date pages?

I wrote a new player guide for KR which was submitted to stratics and is available here as a separate stratics link:

Kindgom Reborn New Player Guide

That was written with the idea that characters were genuine newbies never having played UO at all before so covers some really basic stuff from character creation until you step out into the 'real world'. Though even for experienced players if you are new to KR it is worth a looksee, especially for maximising your new character rewards experiences.

For more advanced KR playing and how to run most things in the client, yes the KR Client User Guide on my site spellweave.com is the most up to date guide out there as far as I am aware (updated to last patch's that changed anything to do with playing or the UI)

Thanks for all the links, a lot of good information there. Is there a page that talks about challenging the Dark Knight and what the rewards are? So far I've gotten Ring of the Savant and Echo Staff, are there others? Also my rune has turned dark (unusable) on two chars due to fizzling of Sac Journey and one by not defeating the Dark Knight (tho I didn't die), so there must be some kind of timer, I guess.

The link to the Kingdom Reborn New player guide contains a few hints on the Dark Knight plus a description of the rewards available and what I recommend you do as far as how many points on skill etc prior to challenging him.

As far as I am aware the 'fizzled' runes to the Dark Knight are permanently broken which has been reported time and time again but to my knowledge they are still not fixed.

They are supposed to 'reset' to be useable again after 3 days, however, so far I have seen no fix for these, so you may have blown the challenge on the chars who have fizzled. I did that on my first attempt, lol, fizzled the recall so ended up deleting the character and just doing the quests again to make sure I got my rewards. It is wise to be fully ready to go into challenge for this reason alone as if unsuccessful, again, the rune does not refresh for you to get back in. Also note you only have 10 minutes to kill the thing which I don't think is stated anywhere, if you haven't killed it in 10 mins you get tossed out as well.

Sorry I can't give you better news than that on the runes
