there should be more variety most large paintings in game use the well overused Madonna dal collo lungo

I give some exiting new variations not to be used, and not belonging to me other than the adaption.

anyway though the pics where done with humor in mind, I am still wanting to see more variation. How hard would it be to code in a few more pics to avoid 3/4 of the pics in my house looking like different pictures of the same painting.

ill call the first one, A large painting of the Beginning of Time

and the 2nd A Large Painting of a Rainbow Haired Zebra Striped Centaur on a Stripper Pole.

Yes! Ultima 9 had quite a few nice large paintings with things such as old game box artwork etc, if I recall correctly. Really nice artwork such as detailed in game paintings, etc give much depth to games. I see more and more of it in the modern games and it is a nice trend.

Please developers give us more large and even medium sized paintings with a high level of detail.

Kind of reminds me of the old Sims.

Tell you... that barnical covered paintings we got... very disapointing. I was expecting new art, not recolored rubbish no one would want. Not unless you were really going for a hard pirate or sea-side themed place. That would be cool... but my houses in my town are really kind of upbeat and clean looking... outside the messes. hehe

New artwork would be nice, seems they tried alittle when they made clean up brit because of the 2 wall hanging but they dont really excite me.

We got those 2 elf tapestries with this late in the year new Spring Clean-up.

They really wern't new, so much. They appeared with ML (Elf Stuff)... its just like it's like someone like totaly like forgot about LIKE making them craftable or somejunk. Would have been nice... but we have them now and I love them.

Maybe they can design a system where we can make our own paintings, have a pop up of a simple MS paint-like thing to edit our paintings on, but we would also have to obtain our own resources (e.g. canvas, canvas frames, oils, paints (maybe another use for natural paint dyes?..)). The scarcity for paint resources would help not deminish any current or new/future in-game paintings.

thinking of in all the dungeons of anti virtue, on the 15 year anniversary of UO, we should get 3 random box art paintings as plausible drops, and 3 more every year after. Something like that?

also what about more that open to a hi-res when clicked, if anyone has any ideas to throw in please do.

I may even make a few more examples provided I can get some creative juices out of my coffee.

Hell i would not mine having a regular Madonna dal collo lungo that was a hi-res when clicked.

Hi-res when clicked would be great for all new paintings. Also, how about assigning an artist's signature to them, with paintings by some artists being more rare and more valuable than others?

Maybe the Devs would be willing to allow players to submit their own original creations for consideration, and let one of the player's characters be the artist's name if chosen?

I'd love new paintings. There are quite a few paintings I see decorating npc buildings that would look nice in player homes.

one question I have if anybody knows, whats the color and pixel depth for paintings in UO and what type of file compression is used on the images? also any other info or details. Just wanted to see what can be and what cannot be, in UO

Malag you mad! The UO Ren tapestry was brilliant. Was what filled my early days of UO seeing that on opening the client. Would love that in a large poster form

NO I was right we were talking about cover art... of the box. And the box I have in my closet is just a white box with the UO symbol on it.

Now if you are talking about the Jewelcase art.... that's different.

Why even bother with paintings? The isometric view makes them useless blobs of color. as mentioned above, if clicking them brought up a high res image, that would be worth a look.

That is why I want to know the stats of what the picture is. I may have to go digging inside the files, but with a degree of finesse one may be able to sharpen the images up a bit. using some trick other than just skewing an image, I could recreate the image from that view, increasing the what we perceive to be the image.

However I am not sure I have the skill required for it, I figure I could give it a whirl.

The last one I did is a bit bigger so shows more, Looks less blurry than in game paintings to me. Took me 1 min. So size has a lot to do with it, but I don't even know what UO uses for a color pallet, so I am not sure what is possible yet.

I don't see why they cant have all of them click to open the whole painting, it works for one, why not all? Then I am also not sure, but its a commercial game, maybe it has to do with permission.

You did a good job getting the images skewed, hope I didn't sound like I was putting your work down. I've just never liked how anything sits on the walls, I always want to click and see what it really looks like.

not at all offended, My intention with the thread was to see how many folks wanted new art to display in game, other than that I was just kicking around ideas, only reason I re did the Hildebrand? was to see what it would look like skewed but larger than the tapestry, an experiment.

I would say my work is just some basic messing around, so its not like, work but more play. I hear ya on the blurry, the one off the lady standing sideways looks like a blue dot and red blob to me, but I kinda think it could look better. It just needs someone to give a damn about it.

They picked some off the wall high ren art, but we could use more, and some of the old stuff could maybe use some fixing, I say maybe becuase I dont know the limits of the game.

this one I messed up my angle a bit, but it would look about the same its only off by a few degrees

10kb could take it down to about 3kb limiting it to its basic colors. Darkens it a bit but looks about the same.

ok a more realistic in game much smaller and for some reason it is not the aspect of the real artwork at all. But this is it skewed for game and the aprox same size and same color depth and same image. Painting_medium.png game version

bump and also, devs give us the specs for formats and bitrate(16 right), I would very much like to see others ideas and examples. I was reading up on how to add it in 2d but im not a programmer and got a headache quick. So break it down for me :p

In both large and small paintings I feel, and in tapestries. Given the quantity of source material available, I have often wondered why we are limited to such a miniscule selection of painting--sculpture too.

Since there is a painters' guild in the game how about making it useful?
