..why are the pigments only able to be bought in multiples of of 3, max?

If I want to buy 10, I have to be 3 * 3 and then one extra.. why not just sell a set of 10?

I was pondering this myself, the full set is 10...why not have an opt to buy the full set...

whoa, I just went to the site to check it out... there are a ton of items for sale I didn't know about. Trevelyan, I blame you for making me spend this much money there ;)

Are the dyes even worth it? I was looking at it and it doesn't seem like the dyes are even much different from whats already in game...

Or is it that they can dye enhanced items? Cause the colors sure don't look exciting...

There is an option for me to buy 1 dye. which means for the set you would have to buy 3 x3 dye sets and then 1 extra.

Funny how they get you with that 1 extra. lol $4 vs ~$3.33

Personally I think there are too many dyes/stains in UO. I guess nobody really thought, at the time of design, of how this may undervalue such things as vet reward tubs or enhancing with different materials.

But I collect all sorts of stuff, so i'll end up buying these when they're cheaper in-game (dyes too). Not going to buy all 10 from the store without a more sizeable discount.

My bigger question is why isn't the runebook copying pen rechargeable. I'd spend $9.99 if it were, but since it's not, I'm not spending $5.99 for limited charges.

I get the dyes running out since they can't stop people from using them for other people, and they want to continue to make money on them (though why they don't just open up the ability to buy any of the old dyes is beyond me)...

But a pen? Really?

I don't think the dyes devalue the vet tubs... as they're colors you can't dye elsewhere. But I wish they'd stop making dye colors rare. I mean, I LOVE Chaos Blue... it's pretty much gone for good. That sorta irks me.

Is it sure the pen is non rechargeable?
As copying runebooks with a 100% Lower Reagents Suit just costs time and the runes.
Why would anyone buy the pen then if it costs $ when with a little more time youcan make it even ingame almost free?

You can get chaos blue from a normal dye tub. I've got a tub set to that color if you'd like to see.
It's probably possible to get close to -- or even right on -- that color with a normal dye tub... but unfortunately I can't dye anything non-cloth or non-furniture with that.

I do appreciate the offer though. Do you happen to remember round about what settings were used on the dye tub to make the color? If not, I'll toy around. It'd be good at least for clothing. :)

100% sure, no... but unlike the house tiles that explain a recharge procedure, the pen only says it loses one charge per use.

I can see it being useful for guilds that hand out runebooks to guildies, vendors who sell various point of interest books, and organizations that hand out event books... I mean, honestly, it's a time saver... you only need to make the initial book once, and then whammo, copy it.

But... at only 100 charges, and no recharge (that I'm aware of), it's a money-sink I'm not ready to sink any money into. hehe

Vendors that sell the marked runebooks for various places or things wouldn't make enough from selling the 100 books that would make to pay for it. It's definitely not something anyone would use for stocking vendors as they'd have to replace it continuously at a loss. About the only use I could see, other than the guild/event ones you mentioned, that would be cost effective would be for copying a rune library. I had hopes for this item but it's just not worth the expense.

I sure don't. The tub was given to me already set to that color. I've matched it up against identical items dyed both with the tub and the dye itself and can't see any difference at all, so my guess is it's an exact match, or at least close enough that no one would know the difference.

The green and grey are very similar to leather dye tub hues.

But the pen, I agree with. Saw it on test, was surprised. I guess Japanese players love microtransactional payments and, well, it is a timesaver. The time spent making runebooks might be worth the few yen, when they have reduced time because of jobs.

I think its good in that respect but, really, UO is a game.. not a powergaming experience. Everything is becoming simplified and refined and far less game-like.
