New form of magic!

We got a thread out there about next race possibilities.. I found myself wondering about new forms of magic for our future..

Off the top of my head I can in our future -

Sorcery - dark magic, lots of explosions, etc..
Druidic - focused on healing and nature.
Witchcraft - focused on ... um.. whatever witches do...

Though, personally, I would really like to see bards get revamped more along a magic type system.

- Music book (spell book)
- sheet music (spells)
- instruments have to be held in hand. (this counters people complaining about being too powerful as a bard can only bard at any given moment)
- little music notes graphic when instrument is played.
- Lyrics instead of words of power (so others can see what is being cast)
.. think peacemaking = "WAR! What is it good for?"
Enticement= "I want you.. I need you.."
Rock (like mysticism spell) = "I wanna ROCK!"

- songs would cost mana and stamina (got this idea playing guitar hero)
- some songs would be more effective the higher the bard's fame.
- You could have songs to cause direct damage, healing,
- some songs a player would have to stand still while playing and causes a constant stamina drain, like a group buff or group healing..

ok that's all I got, any thoughts? (ok not all i got but all I feel like typing)

Ruby slippers are overpowered and unbalanced. They need to be nerfed. Now! If they don't get nerfed now, I'm going to cancel all of my 10,000 accounts! They're too powerful in PvP and PvM, and my crafter shouldn't be able to use them.

Sorry. Yeah, you have some good ideas. I'd love to see some Witchcraft added. Bards, like tamers and slayer weapons, need to be cut back somehow so that UO loses it's unbalanced, use-this-for-that play that's been taken too far (IMO).

Maybe some bard and melee attention eh. Yes my tamer is my main but i root for em all. Of course some new rideable mounts maybe something craftable for em that benefits the rider. Oh craftable saddles for boras and everyone can have em.

I'd like to see Orcs as a playable race.

Umm, I don't think Orcs have magic unless you count how their dog-breath and foul stench can clear a room.

Oh, and I still want Mumakils too. You could have like ten Guildies riding on it!!!

I love the idea of adding to bardic abilities. Actually kinda makes me think of the Final Fantasy series, where different songs had different effects. Would be awesome to have in group hunts for area buff effects. If done right, it could really add to template design, like bardic mages who play various instruments for effects like mana regen or sdi or something. With only provo, disco and peace, bards are kind of a one trick pony, but if I could replace med with "songweaving" or whatever you wanna call it and have a variety of effects to choose from,I'd totally take it.

I was also thinking along the lines of the "technopunk" feel they were gonna go for in UO2. Maybe the next expansion could introduce a race that is unable to use magic, but has developed various technologies (tools, guns, etc) through which they mimic the effects of magic. I'd also open up lots of options for rp stuff as well.

Sorry bout de railing your thread.

Your ideas about bards seem like a solid start.
lol no worries, I was enjoying it. I can't believe I missed 3 clicks!

For the skill points invested to be a 'pure' bard, it's garbage. and just investing to be either peacer or disco in combination with other things is over powering. Barding needs to have more depth and more things available, while at the same time preventing us of other skills..

I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more technology myself.
Firearms would be a nice addition. They were afterall in the other ultimas.
FLINTLOCKS NOT SEMI AUTOMATICS.. (I can hear the drool dripping from pvpers).. They weren't alot of use but did come in handy for an emergency 1 shot. Gives everyone a new toy, and tinkers something new to make..

I still can't believe a harpsichord hasn't been added to game with sheet music that you click on to play kinda like music box...

My view, we don't need more magic skills just better definition and updates to those we have now.

All spell casting Classes can got to 120 in their respective skill, Why not just add more spells only obtainable over GM Skill.

One could technically see Spellweaving as Druidic.
Mages are already sorcerous. Lots of exploding things in there.
Necromancy well, its dark. Witches are dark. Pretty much same thing (because you always hear about witches cursing people)

I wouldn't mind seeing some love added to any of the magic skills. More spells would be nice. Make them similiar to crafting recipes, you have to do a quest to use/get them. And have a 33% fail chance at 120.

Some  given to chivalry would be nice as well. Balancing the spells it has with actual skill points, etc.

NO more magic is needed. We have an over abundance of casting classes.

Bards definitely need a 'whole lot of love'. Starting with the stupid skill timers that have been in place way too long. There also needs to be a rework of the mob difficulty levels and/or the formula for success/fail. As evidenced by the recent additions to the mini champ areas where many of the mobs just beneath the mini boss have been set to 155 difficulty and all the bosses/mini bosses are at 160. This prevents GM bards from having a chance of anything other than area peace from working. GM bards are crap now. GM bards should have at least a 10% success chance at any of their 3 skills on any mob in the game with an exceptional instrument. Slayers of course should add to that and higher skill should add even more. The failure timer may be close to correct but the success timer is absolutely ridiculous. If there are more than 2 mobs in an area the bard must resort to defensive tactics probably 90% of the time. Running around in circles waiting for the stupid timer to be able to use the skill again. If nothing else, remove the interdependence of the skill timers so that a successful provoke doesn't preempt the bard from using peace for 10-11 seconds.
