Never Had This Problem Before

I'm training a nice White Wyrm (4.2)...just because I don't have one!

He GMed all skills about 3 weeks ago except for Magery which is at 98.0...for the last 5 days! Prior to 98.0 the Wyrm would gain 0.2-0.4 points per 2-3 hr session. After 98.0, absolutely nothing.

I Disco the Wyrm (to 70.6 Magery no less) and we train with Daemons, Cyclos, Titans, Ogre Lords, etc. We also train, without the Disco, with Bloods, Swoops, Cus, etc. So that adds up to 10-15 hrs without a single 0.1 gain over 5 nights. Don't pets at least have a GGS?

I've trained the Wyrm as tank and as secondary. He's gone through a gigabyte of mana but no gains!

What am I doing wrong? I really don't want whither from boredom while blue training if I can avoid it! I want action, GPs and skill gain!

The only thing I'm doing right is I have banked in the last 5 nights, over 2 mil in GPs, several acceptable armor/wep/jewel pieces and a couple dozen t-maps.

How should I train my Wyrms 98.0 Magery???

My Rune Beetle's magery is similarly stuck at 98.7, after at least 5-6 hours of hunting.

O.P. Here...
So we spent 4hrs this evening, training with my White Wyrm as the secondary and Discoed against Swoopes, Oger Ellls, etc. and all for 0.00 gains in Magery. This is utterly disgusting!

What am I Doing wrong???

It's a while since I worked on my ww's, but I remember we hit a bad sticking point in training. The only thing I found which would get them gaining properly was to take them to rotting corpses. Alternating them from primary to secondary attacker is my preferred method. I didn't have disco on that tamer, so haven't tried disco and rotters, but those and ladies of the snow are my personal favorites when I'm finishing training.

I agree with Wenchkin--try the rotting corpses for a while. I think all that casting of archcure eventually gets them some gains.

A lot of pets get stuck in the high 90s on magery. It's frustrating. I have a kitsune that was stuck at 99 magery for 4 months. He finally got another .1 last week.

I usually use the citadel for magery training on pets. They get nice bursts of casting at lots of targets then enough time to med back up as I run to the next room. This worked great for my rune beetles (GM with little issue), and works good on all my foxes until they hit those high 90s.

I'll take the little fox down to some rotters and see if those will help him get another gain.

OP here...

I define a training trip as the amount of foes killed to achieve ~24k in GPs, my chars carrying capacity. So after 5 days of 0.0 Magery gains for my Wyrm, I was disconsolate. So tonight I followed recommendations and my Wyrm (unDiscoed) Killed ~24k worth of Rotters (unDscoed) (this took a long, long time!) then my Wyrm (Discoed) killed ~24k of Cyclos & Titans for a total of 0.00 (zero.zero zero) in Magery gains. That is ZERO gains in Magery.

For some reason I decided to work on Ogre Lords (Wyrm Discoed & Ogre Lord Discoed). We killed ~24k in GPs worth of Ogre Lords and shockingly gained 0.4 in pet Magery!!! From 98.0 to 98.4. How is this possible???

Why? How? Explain this, please?

It makes all the difference.

When the wyrm is not discorded, you will only see gains on upper level spells, and even then not often. So you'll need a flame strike to see the best gains, and since your pet usually doesn't have the mana to cast those spells repeatedly, you'll see no gains.

But if you discord your pet, suddenly he has less magery to work with and he'll gain on lower level spells as well (depending on your level of discord), so you may see gains on lightning bolts or heals or cures even. This gives you a lot more chances to gain in magery.

My advice is to not worry about it. I never notice a difference between 98.4 and 100.0 magery, and my pets will all get there eventually. Then I'll kill them and still not worry about it since they're usually back to where they started in minutes.

But if you MUST, then discord your pets while you're trying to train them. It helps. A lot.

OP here...

The Wyrm was Discoed for most of the last 5 days because I firmly believe that 70.6 Magery will gain better than 98.0 Magery. However there wasn't a single 0.1 Magery gain in all that time. Then I spend about 30 minutes with OLs and gain 0.4 in Magery. Figure!
