Need some PC info.

Hello All my fellow Tim McGees out there

My 2nd computer just burned down (CPU got fried), was wondering which motherboard/cpu i should invest in, its not a computer I would use for heavy massive playing, and it may be an older model so my graphic card fits...
Any help?

CPU = ?
Motherboard = ?
Graphic Card = Old school.
Ram = Old school as well xD

Not sure what you are looking for... I am grooving on this site though. I am looking to get a new rig and no... I am not going to build it myself. You know the axiom... I could **** up a wet dream. I will let folks that know what they are doing build and I will pay.

if your keeping pieces of it like ram and such then your probably gonna have to get an older pc that can use it. if your in US then you can always find great deals on craigs list.

If you aren't going to use it for anything heavy, then look at an Atom based PC. Something like: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883220006

It's about the size of a deck of cards, only uses about .2 amps (20 watts) at full load, and has everything you'd need to run most non-game apps. It has built-in wireless LAN, video, USB, etc.

Trying to find a replacement board for an old system can be quite a challenge/problem. Consider that MANY older motherboards were created with crappy Chinese capacitors, and have a relatively short life-span (3 to 5 years) in many cases. If you want more specific help on this matter, it would be very useful to know exactly what you need. By 'older' video card do you mean PCI, AGP, or some kind of PCI-E card? What exactly is the kind of RAM, in your computer, and what is the motherboard make/model? Are you 100% certain the CPU is actually toast, or are you making an assumption? It's possible it's another component, like the power supply, capacitors on the motherboard, or the video card. What does the computer do, or not do when you try to turn it on?

In short, there is insufficient info to really be helpful here, unless you want advice on just buying a new, replacement system.

Well... it used to blink when starting up in white/greyish color during loading of Windows, cant remember whats the problem with that if its the cpu or graphic card, but after trying other graphic cards it still gave the same problem, and even worse, when you try to play a game and the cpu needs to work it just restarts the computer..

Now its just starting up and wont even pass the "intro" screen (as I use to call when a computer starts up) :'(

fyi: I dont live in the states but sometimes I do wish I did

And furthur more, I never should have stopped my interest in building the computers back in the IDE harddisk era

Based on what you say there, I don't believe it's the CPU. I would look at the motherboard first. Look at the capacitors on the motherboard. See if any of them have a swollen top, or seem to be leaking at all. All capacitors should have a level top, and nothing coming out.

What is the make/model of the motherboard? Knowing this will answer all of my other questions.

Depends on exactly what parts you have and how much you're willing to spend.

Got $600+, go for an intel i7 and x58 mobo.
Got $200, one of the cheaper AMD quads/dual cores and a gigabyte mobo.
Got an AGP video card and DDR400 RAM, gotta hit up craigslist.

Update: Didnt see any, and I know the maker of the motherboard is Asus... need to find out which model since its old
