Need help on a solo PVM build

I am a new player that recently tried out UO:KR on the 14 day trial and is now hooked and just recently subscribed. I need some help on a PVM only mage build (I will be doing 0 pvp) that will be relatively strong and have room to allow me to take on some hard mobs (maybe even the champ/gauntlet) solo, since I play on odd hours when there arent hardly anyone on and I am basically friendless/guildless at the moment. I browsed thru most of the forums, and have came up with the following:

magery
eval
meditation
taming
lore
vet

str 90 int 125 dex 10

Does anyone have any suggestions? Other skills I was also looking at are a) resist/wrestling, b) spellweaving, and c) necro/ss, but I am not convinced a/b/c is stronger than tamer setup for a solo PVM mage. Any help is greatly appreciated.

All I can say is you have to put in a lot of work for a tamer.
You could buy an Advanced character token though, that's a popular choice.
That skill set you have would make a very powerful template.

I can't really give much advice on spellweaving since I don't use it. I hear some of the spells are excellent for pvm though.

I'm glad you like the game and I hope you stick around.

Thanks for the advice. I'll look into. I am not much of a power player, and actually like taking the time to develop my character :)

Meanwhile I keep hearing about the use of Soulstone. How do I get one? Is it vendor bought or made by other players?

you can get a soul stone by being 1 year vet and choosing it as vet reward or you can buy one at 9.99$ at game store do not buy one from vendors soul stones are tied to accounts !

oh and you can get soul stone fragments from tokens but these have 5 uses then are deco only these tokens can be purchased from players or stores do not buy fragments from players they will not work either

resist is not really needed on this template your tames should be the targets of most spells or you are not doing it right

spellweaving can be great for this template the key is meeting other players who have within 20 of your spellweaving to gain high level circles this means way more power in your spells plus added duration etc

have not tried SS /necro

another good fit for this temp is music and either discord or peace or even provo but this will need 2 spots just like ss/necro

Is wrestling or anatomy needed for defense in PVM with my template? or as mentioned above that if I am being targeted/hit by a monster while being a tamer than I am not doing it right....

IMHO the best defense fora tamer/mage would be Swords of Prosperity. Nothing will disarm you in PVM and a high luck -0 mage weapon really works for me.

Now for finishing out your template there are a couple of things you could look into;

1) If your going to tame a lot of big game you may want to consider musician and peace making. Peace the big nasty monster then tame it, works very well.

2) If you going to hunt with your tamed pets you could consider musician and discordance. This will make the monsters your pet is fighting weaker (easier to kill) and help you make a whole lot of loot.

3) You could buy a soul stone (or 2) and keep discord and peace making on them. If you want to go taming put on peace making on your tamer, if you want to go a hunting put on discord.

Here's a idea for a disco/peace tamer.

Mage 120
Med 120
Musician 120
Peace/Disco 120
Taming 120
Lor 120

You don't have to go to 120 in all and you could add veterinary to heal your pet along with spells but the fine tooning is up to you.

I run a bard tamer and I use a soul stone to switch out peace/disco depending on whether I'm fighting or taming.

As far as defense goes...your main defense is your pet. What usually happens though is the monster aggros on you, not your pet. When this happens, invis yourself and the monster will target your pet and you can go over and vet it.

If you play on Pacific, give be a holler and I'll be glad to show you what I know.
