My own ideas of how to punish a cheater.

Besides banning a player for cheating I came up with some added punishment to discourage cheaters. let me know what you think.

1. For every time someone gets caught cheating they have to forfeit one yearly reward for that entire account per cheating offense.
2. For every time someone gets caught cheating they shall receive no holiday rewards with that entire account for one year per cheating offense.
3. For every time someone gets caught cheating they should not be able to participate in any events and even if they do the Devs will make it so he or she cant get any event items or rewards with that entire account for an one year per cheating offense.
4. For every time a player gets caught cheating above his or her name will be high lighted in flashing letters the title the cheater in a different color so players know he or she is really a cheater. this title cannot be removed for one year per cheating offense for the entire account.
5. if a player is caught cheating he or she cannot create another account using the same credit card or in his or her real same name for an entire year for each cheating offense.

One more thing I just thought of the cheating players entire account will not be able to get any artifacts from any boss monsters for one year per cheating offense.

• I feel there should first be a very stern and obvious warning before these rules went into affect though to give cheaters a chance to stop cheating or at least know the consequences of there actions prior to doing them.

made me think of these too

- reduced stat/skill cap by 25 each for every character on the account found cheating (cumulative each 24 hrs) (the account wide impact would mean it would be useless to just grab another character, or to soulstone skills between characters.
- all powerscroll enhancements to the character cheating go *poof*, and the corresponding scrolls are gone forever (this might hurt legitimate players trying to finish characters however by further increasing scroll demand, unless the *poof* was permanent for the account).
- reduce impact of all character bonuses (all regenerations are halved (or some other percentage), spell damage is halved, etc.)

You can wish all you want, but I can assure you that at no time will anyone be running around with a CHEATER flashing above their head...... would be cool, and I would want one. yet its not going to happen.

i have no clue how unattended macroing and innocuous scripting got lassoed in as cheats.

I believe that on the first provable offense the account(s) be locked, all account possessions be rolled into an in-game EA-run vendor house. All prices set at NPC levels for the equivalent item. First come, first served for neat things.

This might give some new/poorer players a crack at items. Housing dismantled and any attempt to establish new accounts all rejected.

What is so hard to understand that people that cheat don't care.
They see this as a game only. As a game (not life in anyway), they play how they want.

Scripts, cheats, hacks. This is just a game and one play style is to use whatever is available.

Now, all you are proposing is a bunch of stuff to deter people that might cheat if it was legal. In otherwords, those that dont cheat dont and those that cheat do.

Adding your options does nothing but creates a discussion.

Just my point of view.

Ban them. End of story. Learn how to detect scripts and ban them.

Wow, just wow... Maybe it has something to do with the fact that unattended macroing is against the TOS, and that "The-Program-Which-Shall-Not-Be-Named", which is what most use to run scripts in UO is an illegal third party app, the use of which is also a violation of the TOS? Ergo, they are both against "the rules", they are both cheats, and the people that use them are cheaters...

Maybe that's how they got "lassoed in as cheats"...

The reason they will not simply not let you log in while running 3rd party apps is because that gives free reign for anyone to test out new ways to avoid detection with no risk. If I see one more useless "ways to punish cheaters" thread I'm going to go insane...it's a GAME people, if you don't like how people play it QUIT.

OR, the cheaters could just face the fact that they suck so bad that they can't play by the rules and succeed, so perhaps they should "QUIT"? Then they can go get the cheat codes for the single player game of their choice and knock themselves out...

I have no problems doing just fine without any cheats of any sort whatsoever. And I expect when there aren't as many using them as are now, I'll still do just fine. Maybe I'll do even better, maybe I won't. I guess we're all about to find out, now aren't we?

Better idea: Find the methods cheaters are using, and do what is doable to curtail those efforts. Nothing else will have any effect.

actually, his posts make the most sense to me out of a large bunch. he might be out of touch with the majority of stratics posters, but he knows the game.

Exactly. They aren't cheating because of fear of getting caught. They are cheating because they dont care about getting caught.
