Had an Advanced Character token to spare, so I thought, after having played this game since release, it was time to make a tamer.
Use the token, soulstone 100 magery over, imbue a ring and bracelet with 13 animal lore, 13 vet, and 13 taming each, buy a 120 taming scroll for 900K, make myself some LRC and HP armor. I'm now at 111 taming and 100 vet and animal lore.
Head over to Destard where some guy is killing and taming GDs. I ask if he minds if I try to tame one of his throwaways and offer him 100K for his trouble. 10 minutes later I have a GD. On the advice of the other tamer, I feed him then stable him. Hmm. So now what. I have to wait a week before it bonds and I can start training it. Better go grab some other stuff to get the bonding process started.
Mission 1.....rune beetle. They look pretty tough, plus I'm thinking I may be able to ride it or something. I tame a llama and take it up to the northeastern tip of Isume and try to EV down a beetle. They heal so quickly that I can't tame it without hitting it or getting poisoned. So I go tame a bake kitsune, gate it to the beetles, and try to use it to tank. Beetle is killing it so fast, I have to stay close to heal and the beetle keeps turning to target me. We all die, so I res and come back and revert to the EV strat. I've got my walk-ahead technique a little more refined and after a couple hours of trying, I successfully tame one. Feed it some pears, and stable it. Next up, I need a ride. So I take the moongate to Umbra and run around the corrupted forest for a while till I bump into a nightmare, EV kills it before I can dispell, so next time it's blade spirits and energy bolts. Heals itself a lot more slowly than the beetle so I can stay ahead of it. It is still taking a long time, so I set up a macro for "use last skill/ last target" and, boom, within a couple minutes I have a nightmare. Feed it cooked chicken and stable it.
