First thing I did upon installing and starting each game was to turn the music off....

IMO the only Stones that are epic is the Rolling Stones...

I never understood that mentality. The music in both games is great. How bitter a person are you that you don't enjoy this great music that was written for these games. I know it's cool to say I turn off the ingame music when i play, but come on guys.

i perfer stones. I've always loved the message of the song. To me the music in game helps make the world a real. :blushing:if I forget to turn my sound on I'll sit there for while trying to figure out why the game just doesn't feel right.

As far as epic-ness, I think some of the concept UXO music beats both these tracks into the dust...I think you can still find some of the mp3's for download at UXO Stratics.

Although I will say, no music can ever replace Stones in my mind.

Edit: Found the link. Gauntlet of Krall is the definition of epic, imo. They also have an actual chamber version of Stones.

I erased all the UO music files and replaced with my own mp3's. i do that about once every couple weeks or until i get bored.

Damn, you seem to be a bit bitter yourself. Get over it already. I turn the music off firstly to improve performance, and secondly because I plain don't like it, and prefer to listen to something on XM instead.

You really need to get over this superiority complex that makes you think that just because you like something everyone else must like it too. :coco:

what does that have to do with bitterness? Play the same game for almost 11 years straight and you'd get tired of the music too.

Connor you're such a freaking hypocrite. Had you made this posting or one similar to it, and someone had chimed in that offered absolutely nothing towards the topic, you would have jumped their butt and asked why they even bothered to respond. But ohhhhh, it's perfectly ok when YOU do it , isn't is?

I replaced all my UO music files with Elder Scrolls Oblivion soundtrack, the most epic one to date..

It's so nice to have a fan. :cheerleader:

Btw, I don't go around telling people they're bitter because they don't share the same opinion that I do. I can be arrogant at times, but I'm never that arrogant.

I find music distracting in any game so I switch it off.

I do however, think Stones is a fine piece of work. There's a version with the lyrics being sung somewhere on Youtube.

The UO music is nostalgic for me. Personally, music and sound is a huge portion in games for me. The only time I turn off the music in UO and put on itunes is if I am farming and doing some very boring activity, otherwise I love the music. Although the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion idea is not bad, that game is freakin epic in all ways.

I have to agree with Conner here, you're the only one here who sounds bitter. I don't think it's cool to say I turn off the ingame music, I think it's simply a preference people have. Even great music I at the very least turn it down nearly to 0 because I prefer the environment sounds in a game to the music. Maybe you just can't understand preferences that are not your own.

Although I prefer Stones much more than Shaping of the World.

Shaping the World is enjoyable, but I wouldn't say epic. Stones is truly epic. It sounded good on the old commodore 64s and it sounds even better today. Having said that, I don't often listen to music in UO anymore. What would be nice is if they changed up the songs to fit with the events. For instance, during the invasions of towns, they could've added a new more tension filled song. I know this would require a music person to keep adding new songs, but hey, we can hope can't we?

Well, if you do replace the music, make sure to re-name the song by naming it after the UO song that you replace. Otherwise it will not work.

I love all the game music. I saw Play live. it was incredible!. I do however turn the music off in game because I move around a lot and sometimes it feels like the cat is playing with the remote. You know the continuity of the piece. I say Great job composers!

And exactly what agenda is there in simply stating I don't play UO with the music on?

Please, if you're going to try and be a smartass, at least do it when it's applicable, otherwise you just make yourself look like a dumbass instead. :dunce:

The original question was, "Which track is more epic", not, "Do you like the ingame music or do you turn it off". You had no business replying since you had no answer to the question asked. Take your own past advice and stay out of threads when you have nothing positive to add. Or just keep whining and bad mouthing and being an all around ass to everyone. You seem to be the only one on Stratics that can do it and get away with it.

Good point Garth. For me it would have to be stones.

However, I would play in game music alot more if it did not get overplayed by the music which plays when in war mode (which for me is most of the time)

How would i turn off the war default theme - which i find very 'un-epic'

I am guessing you could delete/rename the war theme file in the music folder? That should work, but I am not 100% sure.

Actually, I think you could edit one of the config files to use the mp3 name you want to associate with different activities and areas. I did this years ago, however, so I have forgotten what I did, but it allowed me to keep all my music without changing any names.

And obviously my answer was neither one, since I turn the music off, which I'm not alone in doing, and not alone in posting about either, yet I don't see you attempting to browbeat anyone else that posted a similar response.

Yep, it sure is interesting having a fan. :cheerleader:

I did have an answer. It's what started your tirade to begin with. As far as what I had business doing or not doing, well, until you start sending me a check every month, my business is none of yours.

Take your own past advice and stay out of threads when you have nothing positive to add.
Do you mean like the absolute negativity you've shown in every single post you've made in this thread? At least I made a post that was about the topic, and didn't spend all of my time in this thread doing nothing but trolling. I guess that puts me one up on you. :danceb:

Wow, that sounds surprisingly like exactly what you've done in this thread. Way to go.

On that note (pun intended), I do believe it's time to stop feeding the trolls.

Have a good day now, y'hear? ;)

Amazing find there Sakkarah.

Nice "haunting" qualities in the piano verison there, especially close to the end.

I would also add the versions created for Ultima V Lazarus as well, one tradition, one a more driving remix:

A couple times I've thought have getting a little "meta" in my music choices, and replacing some of the UO tracks with music from the ".//Hack" games and anime.

After all, while console games, the games are emulations of playing a future VR MMORPG, that in many ways corresponds as its world's UO. And 99%+ of the 3 video series (at least 2 of which were TV series in Japan) take place IN the game, via their character perspectives. They have people that are playing characters nothing like their real personas for various reasons (example, we have persons playing characters of the other sex, a character that is effectively a order guild leader, playing the game in great deal because it's the only place that she can walk, being wheelchair bound in real life), merchants (both the good and duper variety), even a wise old player or two, giving advise to younger ones - one of which we find the fate of, when the character is seen talking to a GM, telling him that the old man passed away, and he was on his father's character to pass the word to those he knew and loved in the game (and vice-versa).

I recommend watching the anime for those who play ultima - especially the "bonus" episodes after the series' end for "Sign". Music-wise, one of my favorite tracks is "Dwindled Bible" from the "Roots" series.

For those who are truly Sosarians at heart, Stones is the definitive winner. The melody is moving, and the lyrics are even more so, charged with deep meaning. Stones is the essence of Ultima. It is what you would get if you took the entirety of Sosaria and gently distilled it into a musical expression.

The obvious interpretation is Stonehenge, situated on the plains of Wiltshire in England, but I've always fancied the lyrics as describing the stones of the moongates or the Virtue shrines.

To me, Stones has always been at the heart of the story that Ultima intended to tell, and it's a story that begs to be told. Kings, virtues, evil wizards, dungeons rife with peril - a vibrant medieval fantasy world with challenges and wonders to encounter. Great stuff, and truly at the core of what Ultima is all about.

Long ago ran the sun on a folk who had a dream
And the heart and the will and the power:
They moved the earth; they carved the stone; moulded hill and channeled stream
That we might stand on the wide plains of Wiltshire

Now men asked who they were, how they built and wonder why
That they wrought standing stones of such size
What was done 'neath our shade? What was pray'ed 'neath our skies
As we stood on the wyrd plains of Wiltshire

Oh what secrets we could tell if you'd listen and be still
Rid the stink and the noise from our skirts
But you haven't got the clue and perhaps you never will
Mute we stand on the cold plains of Wiltshire

Still we loom in the mists as the ages roll away
And we say of our folk, "they are here!"
That they built us and they died and you'll not be knowing why
Save we stand on the bare plains of Wiltshire

man i gotta say that wow song blows. that sounds like something id take a 10 second clip out of and use it as music for a cut scene in LOTR the movie when their riding horses, or music for credits of a bad action movie.
I mean it sounds nice, but nothing special for me at all.

Stones however is Jesus in the key of D. It is a song written musically by David "Iolo" Watson, an Ultima charactor with an Earthen counterpart, and the lyrics written by his wife, god rest her soul. Its a song about the stones surrounding stonehenge on the planes of wiltshire. cross refrenced to the eight virtues and stones surrounding moongates. So to me, Stones = win. I learned to play it on guitar, the other song makes me wanna watch the ending top gun, not learn the violin/synthesizer.

I think that Stones is more of a classic epic song, where as the WoW song seems more in like when what I call 'new age' epic. Something along the lines of Pirates of the Caribbean.

I dunno. Stones sounds like it could of been done in 5 mins on a midi keyboard.

I like the music better from back in 98-99. Turned it off after a couple years of playing with it and then put it back on the other day. Thing is it sounded different. Am I crazy or did they change it from the original?

I've got to say this was damn cool. That looks like the level 60 dwarf dungeon where the bar area is (can't remember the name). Is that correct?
