Most mind numbing

After spending so many hours crabbing that I have started sucking my thumb, I got to wondering what the most mind numbing invention in all of UO is. Crabbing and Heartwood quests are right near the top of my list. I am sure, however that over the last 13 years there are lots of other activities I have forgotten that may surpass these. I remember that training prov and taming were pretty bad. What would the top 5 mind numbing activities be?

GM'ing Carto in the first year or two of uo was considered one of the worse grinds
No skill managers or ggs. Huge blocks of time would go by with no gains and suddenly you might get a twofer. The only way to address it was keep burning resources until your done.
just my opinion........

Well hopefully fishing doesn't get taken over by scripters like heartwood, if it hasn't already.

Scripters are Everywhere, They are the Borg.

Hmmm.... I think Doom before the Guaranteed drop system would be my choice. Spent ALOT of time down there and never saw Anything.

Personally I vote for raising poisoning or forensic evaluation.

1. GMing poisoning back in the day was definitely the most boring of all. Too much clicking, very slow gains (the last 10 points were like .2 gains per keg). I do not like purchasing anything and I had to develop a GM alchemist and GM Tinkerer at the same time as support characters. Both chars were ready while the poisoner was at around 70 skill. The whole purchasing regs, building kegs, making potions was a big grind.

2. Looking for a housing spot back in 2002. Managed to place an 8x12 after 6 months.

3. Monitoring an IDOC for 5 days for the owner to come and refresh it (forgot about grandfathered houses).

4. A huge waste of time was also when AOS hit, for the first few months I remember going through every item in a corpse loot or treasure chest. Properties were something new to everyone and I remember I was keeping what 90% would be considered junk now-days.

I still have a crap load of junk from the AoS switch.
Though I did have fun with it. My GM alchemist went red from suicide bombings at moongates. I GM'd poison back in early 98 along with alchemy. At the time it was a complete waste since poisoning on weapons didnt come in until early 99 or so, and the only thing you could poison was food. Not to mention you could heal through poison. I was pretty pissed after spending multiple weekends raising poisoning then poisoning every bladed weapon I could lay hands on then finding that none of them worked.

I miss chain reaction explosion potions that lead to a full keg that would blow up.Can we have that back please? It would be great for champ spawns.

Try GMing magery before meditation ;D That was a year long process hah!

Taming, dont even get me started...

Took me 2 years to GM, partly thru laziness and partly thru sheer boredom...then took another 2 years to 120 for same said reasons.

The worst thing is, though, that there are players who bypass the burden of these activities because they use scripting, while other players, to respect the prohibition, either have to bear on their shoulder and at the expense of their gaming time the burden that these activities carry, or they have to forget about doing them in the game and so, miss out part of the game they are paying csutomers of.

And there is even something more worse, IMHO, that this "great divide" between players has been going on for many many years now and even if the "famous spreadsheet" is many months old, we have yet to see these scripting activities eradicated for good from the game.

Personally, I find all this disheartening and a slap in the face to all those players who do not script.

If there is no intention to get rid of scripting for good, then make it officially legal but this continued grey area where something is not allowed but then hardly much happens to those who do it, is IMHO just.........

That was pretty easy me thinks. I crafted 2 volems and killed toxic slithes with it. 30 points per slith, you get some resources and repair with tinkering. ;) Iirc i used 4000 ingots for repairs.

The OP has it right tho. Crabbing is the most stupid invention they brought into UO since the heartwood quests. If we could atleast get some sideloot while crabbing it wouldn't be as bad as it is. Why not have mibs and pearls get stuck in traps aswell. The heartwood quests i tried a little when they were new but havn't bothered since. You can either cheat or not bother with the heartwood quests...

The queue # doesn't matter. I've had responses given while I was in the 20s or 30s.. I think the GMs look through the issues and fix the ones that are most important.. that's my guess anyways.

Also, a lot of the game is carpal tunnel inducing, moving 125 of any item, filling BoDs, Heartwood questing, etc.. Of course this is partly why scripts are so popular.

I don't know...... Begging to me ranks right up there with Poisoning...... and maybe... hiding and stealth...

Lumberjacking can be extremely dull.... so can mining... Fishing sometimes.

Waiting for Navrey to spawn... especially before they changed it some. At first it was great because it was instant..... but then it was like OMG too boring.

Pffft.......120 Stealing. Not by training. By stealing from other players.

I was actually only 85 for a couple of years back but then took it all the way to Legendary over time.

Just a bit off topic. Try to focus on what the grind is and not how people try to get around it.

BOD filling is the worst. Mining and fishing aren't so bad as periodically stuff springs up that I have to kill and bonus ingots or MiBs are a nice pleasant break (fishing includes crabbing...got two MiBs tonight)

...

GMing ANY "popular" skill during the days of the "global skill pool"... the way the pool worked ensured that the more people were using the skill the HARDER it became to GM because the pool would be depleted of points faster.

Things in this game that are mind numbing to me don't really have to do with working skills. It's more of things like why is there a gate to heartwood in fel yew when the purpose of fel is so murders can roam around, but they can't enter this gate... really? wtf is that?... Or rubber banding in random tiles around faction areas WTF IS THAT! I'm not technically IN a faction area.. I'm around it leave me alone! Or why are some tamed animals insanely fast and some aren't. Why don't gargoyles have more than one Feint weapon? I'd really like to make a gargoyle mystics pvmer template, but Feint is a key part of that and they put it on ONLY ONE pos weapon... mind numbing! Lower ammo cost lol... really? if that 20% lower ammo cost effected you that last shot wtf did you shoot if you didnt' consume an arrow oooo the elusive ghost arrow oooOoO. Oh I've got more if you want them!
