Monster stealing

Sorry to ask such a newbie question, but my "thief" has been retired for about 7 years and back then (as far as I can remember) you couldn't steal from monsters.

Anyway, my question is this:
Do you have to "snoop" the monster and target the item to steal? How exactly do you steal from one?

Thx

hmm, my apologies for not including that in the page. I'll correct that. You use random stealing, just 'use skill - stealing', target monster.

You did used to be able to steal from monsters before AoS actually, but only those that had a back pack. Lich and harpies are the ones I remember, but there were more. My hubby made some hunters in Yew forest very annoyed because when they killed the lich there the packs were already emptied. :D

No, you don't snoop them. Simply stand next to the monster, use the stealing skill, and target the monster.

Though, I must warn you, stealing from players is a lot more fun. :thumbup1:

Lich's and harpies had a BACKPACK ! Good grief, how did I miss that one? I sure didn't know that... Shows how complex UO really is, that you can play for years and years and still be learning. Probably why I'm so dang addicted to it.

And the husband comment made me smile... :)

Do you know if luck improves chances of type of items. I have made a few luck suits and have a bunch of pieces left so I was making a meddable luck suit for my thief to test the theory.

I would also love to know if luck effects the probability of receiving a "higher grade" item.....

As far as I know luck has no impact. As I understand it luck boosts the number of properties and property intensities on loot items, since you can't steal those kinds of items from monsters it wouldn't appear to apply.

Makes sense, but when it comes to the "luck" system I remain a skeptic to some extent. I hope you're right...
