Am i missing the point of saving certain loot to imbue? Seems like you could easily just craft your dream gear instead of waiting for a good one to pop up on corpse?

It's best for jewelry, as even loot jewelry has a top end of 500 intensity.

You can save a lot of time and trouble if you loot jewelry or make weapons/armor that already have one or two of your desired properties near max, with no other properties or the ability to swap out properties (Luck for all of them, skills for jewelry, hit spell for weapons, and DI can always be adjusted down then back up).

An item that starts with 30% SSI will save you AT LEAST 5 relics, and the 10 essence of control, for example. That's at least a half-million gold, on most shards, even if it was a first-shot success roll to imbue.

I keep loot that would otherwise require relic frags, like high LMC, HCI/DCI, FC/FCR. I also keep loot that has 2 MR/SR/HPR.

Dude, sort through your loot.

Loot EVERY monster you can - even the newbie monsters. Some monsters are at certain "levels" where certain types of things can become very common. For instance I found THREE nice split resist bows in a half hour span killing Minotaurs the other day. Their loot level is juuuust enough to generate those, but without any extra "dumb" mods (like spell channeling, mage weapon, etc) which would ruin the weapon for a melee.

Thanks to those Minotaurs I'm rocking a sick dismount bow. It's got split resists, 40 SSI, Balanced (so I can throw ninja stars), Hit Mana Leech (so some of the mana used on the dismount will be leeched back available for the next shot), and Hit Fireball. I opted not to go for the 5th property as it would potentially cause extra breakage chance, and I was running low on intensity after adding 40SSI/Balanced.

*** Any high intensity item with non-desirable properties goes in the unravel bag. I'm up to 86.6 imbuing now and it's all thanks to unraveling. Oddly I seem to be gaining faster now from unraveling a bag of loot than I used to at lesser skill levels, I'm not sure why. I'm doing more champ now but I've always sorted for high intensity jewelry.

*** I keep Jewelry with desirable or expensive to imbue properties such as HCI/DCI 13/14/15, FC3, FC1, DI 25, EP 25, etc. If the ring has +skill on it, I might look to that skill group to see if the skill can be modified to something which makes sense on the ring.

*** I keep Weapons/bows with either split resists (IE, not 100% physical dmg), SSI 30, Use Best Weapon Skill, or any other desirable or expensive traits.

*** I've never saved any armor; even if the modifications on it are nice the resists are just in the dump and you can craft it. Into the unravel bag it goes.

@ Basara:
did I really understand you right? You are saying luck can be replaced for any other mod on jewels/weapons and armor? If this is true I have prolly thrown away a fortune...

No, you can't replace luck, but if it isn't of significant importance, AND there is already a nice mod on the piece, and you have available space to upgrade further, you can drop luck down to 1, which lowers the weight on the item, making the new addition easier to do. I know, clear as mud... sorry.

I think what Basara was indicating is that keeping items with high luck on them is more economical than imbuing it on later - and while citrines aren't that expensive, and chaga mushrooms aren't hard to acquire, the less you have to add to an item, the better for your pocket. It also makes more sense for enhancing - if you are going to poof an item, it's better to do it with something that cost you nothing but some time, rather than actual items to make first.

As others have indicated, it's always worth saving items that have properties that require a relic frag to imbue otherwise.

In addition to the above listed stuff from the other posters, I save any and all jewelry that has a +14 or +15 skill mod on it. Even if I don't use it immediately, that's multiple crystalline blackrock that I don't need to worry about using.

I also keep all super slayer weapons, and the major regular slayers - ogre, dragon, earth elemental, spider... again, if it's something I can use, that's either 10 white pearls or goblin blood or etc that I don't have to actually pull out of my storage box. And if I can't use it, it's still $$ - I have the option of selling as is, imbuing and selling, or even giving it away to someone.
