Dude, sort through your loot.
Loot EVERY monster you can - even the newbie monsters. Some monsters are at certain "levels" where certain types of things can become very common. For instance I found THREE nice split resist bows in a half hour span killing Minotaurs the other day. Their loot level is juuuust enough to generate those, but without any extra "dumb" mods (like spell channeling, mage weapon, etc) which would ruin the weapon for a melee.
Thanks to those Minotaurs I'm rocking a sick dismount bow. It's got split resists, 40 SSI, Balanced (so I can throw ninja stars), Hit Mana Leech (so some of the mana used on the dismount will be leeched back available for the next shot), and Hit Fireball. I opted not to go for the 5th property as it would potentially cause extra breakage chance, and I was running low on intensity after adding 40SSI/Balanced.
*** Any high intensity item with non-desirable properties goes in the unravel bag. I'm up to 86.6 imbuing now and it's all thanks to unraveling. Oddly I seem to be gaining faster now from unraveling a bag of loot than I used to at lesser skill levels, I'm not sure why. I'm doing more champ now but I've always sorted for high intensity jewelry.
*** I keep Jewelry with desirable or expensive to imbue properties such as HCI/DCI 13/14/15, FC3, FC1, DI 25, EP 25, etc. If the ring has +skill on it, I might look to that skill group to see if the skill can be modified to something which makes sense on the ring.
*** I keep Weapons/bows with either split resists (IE, not 100% physical dmg), SSI 30, Use Best Weapon Skill, or any other desirable or expensive traits.
*** I've never saved any armor; even if the modifications on it are nice the resists are just in the dump and you can craft it. Into the unravel bag it goes.
