Mobs to farm as I increase my skill

What mobs will provide the best rate of return as I train my skills? I have been working the Ettins ad Earth Elementals in Despise, but I want to make sure there isn't a better option out there.

Current Skills:

Mage: 74.4
Resist Spells: 100
Meditation: 100
Evaluate Int: 85.2
Wrestling: 52.3
Inscription 54.4

Until you have nature's fury (spellweaving, no skill required to cast, 40 skill required to cast 100%) or energy vortex (8th circle magery, 95-100 skill to cast), your best rate of return will be non spell casting critters who don't heal themselves.

If you happen to have an ogre slaying spellbook, then arctic ogre lords are your best bet.

If you don't, then you probably want to stick to the ettins and earth elementals or find someone to walk you through the spellweaving quest (unless you know what you're doing, killing overseers and minions isn't likely on a low skill character without help).

I will have to search out a ogre slaying spell book then. Thanks for the info.

Not too bad you're coming along. Yeah your best bet is ogre lords once you advance a little bit more. Don't let them get close to you though they'll hit you like a truck. Next choice after that is Artic ogre lords and perhaps demons to mix it up in between. Should get you to 90 easy. Just use a demon slayer book if you do those.

Slayers in any event for whatever you're doing. Will help you a lot.

best rate of return as I train my skills

What type of return are you looking for?
Gold/Fame then need stronger monsters, can try fan dancers - there faster but have no magery, healer nearby as you learn to handle them, or watch for a group going to Doom gauntlet, dont be first to attack just join in once battle engage you will earn points towards Artifacts and depending on size of group, fight can last for awhile to give you more chances at gains.

Gains then use magic arrow or fireball where u are to finish of EI, then go for a higher level spell to gain your magery

Gold I suppose, my assumption is that the gear I need or want can all be bought with gold. Just trying to maximize my efforts as much as I can.

Thanks for everyone's advise you have given me somethings to think about.

So find a spot that has demons and bring a demon slayer book. Easiest money pretty much. Ogres spawn at a slower rate. Other mobs are more trouble than they are worth...at least that I can think of at the moment.

Also, fan dancers is a pretty good suggestion. Fast spawn rate and...almost forgot but they are demon slayer prone as well.

doom is your best bet.. grab an undead slayer book and a demon slayer.
if you cant find a demon slayer any elemental slayer will work on the Dark Father, but not on the rooms with demons in them.. demon rooms are 3 and 5. 1 and 4 are undead and room 2 has no slayer..

just make sure you have an undead slayer.. its very important.. and a 100% lrc suit with a lot of durability..

to obtain a FREE undead book, buy 40 inscription, and do the new player scribe quest..
takes you about 10 minutes to get to 50 and all you do is make recall scrolls.. witch sell back to the npc for a profit.

you can log out down there, but make sure you do it in a safe spot. there is a npc room that many use.

in doom most of the monsters are vulnerable to fire attack.. so use fireballs. (except for the 5th room) you can also cast blade spirits and EVs. (no EVs for the 3rth room)

for the 5th room just stand back if you cant cast earthquakes reliably.

also, dont go down there by yourself as the doors lock when you enter and you cant leave unless your either dead or you kill the monsters.

Good straight-forward build. Here is what I would do if I were you. It is a little boring at first, but you will soon find it pays off.

1) If you don't already, get a 100% LRC suit and as much FC/FCR as you can
2) Get a spell channeling mage weapon with -29 Magery (or as high as you can find); wands often found on the ground at banks work well
3) With the suit and wand in hand (dropping your magery to 45) cast greater heal on yourself over and over and over... watch your magery raise
4) When you get to a modified skill of 50 or so, switch to magic reflection... same thing... over and over
5) When your real skill is 92 you can cast 6th circle spells 100% of the time, then I would unequip that wand and head to Arctic Ogre Lords. Explosion and then fireball them

Anyway, that is what I would do. Look at this chart (http://www.uoherald.com/guide/guide.php?guideId=34). Keep your modified gain between 25%-75% success chance and you will gain well. The initial training to get to 92 real skill will be worth it and help keep you alive.

Also, you can cast 8th circle scrolls at 100% success rate at 92 real skill. I would have a few EV scrolls on hand in case someone drags a group of monsters onto you by mistake. Drop the EV and then invis (which you can also cast with 100% success at 92 magery).

Good luck!
