I thought they were going to talk about the future of UO.

This was accurate:
Development of Ultima Online would continue, with expansions periodically released, but with the torn focus of a sequel and with the eventual dissolution of its founding studio, UO would never capture the type of audience that it could have if it was handled with a little more foresight.

Now almost 15 years on from its release, 7 expansions later, and despite never seeing a sequel, regardless of which direction the genre has taken, Ultima Online still remains the most important title to grace the online realm.
I think that's what frustrates a lot of us, UO could have been doing so much better if it had somebody running it who had a good vision for UO, and more importantly if they had the support of their bosses.

I really thought things would change with BioWare being in charge for the better, what an idiot I was.

Uo is what you want to put into it..
Not what someone else tells you to do..

If you dont want to be a tamer, then dont...you can become a crafter or a mage of sorts..
Theres also warriors...not just the cookie cuter samp or wammy..

And yes i know you would get borred being a crafter all the time..
Well then theres nothing stoping you from trying something else is there..

It seems to me people figure they need to be like everyone else to enjoy the game..
YOU DONT !

Play it the way you want and enjoy..there will never be another game out there the same as Ultima Online....

And what is someones vision , to say its everyone elses..on mass..

So grab a hammer or a sword and have fun.. UO is a journey not destiniton..

UO is like an old civilization. It had glory as well as dark days. Every civilization had great as well as terrible rulers, so did UO. It is more meaningful to make the current UO better than to regret the past mistakes.

Nice article.

'...the game would have ecosystems, a rabbit would eat grass, a wolf wood eat the rabbits, and so on, until at some point the chain was broken, and then the radius for whatever creature would widen, meaning a pack of hungry beasts might invade a town looking for a source of food. Something similar was expected of a dragon, that when hoarding treasures might look further afield and terrorise a settlement. It is a groundbreaking concept, and yet unfortunately failed as Garriott explained “the players killed the creatures so fast that there was no way to crank the respawn up high enough to give it any relevance. Sadly we removed it”'

Seeing as how the variable is 'players killing the creatures too fast' and looking at the amount of players left, can we implement this? Might make something to look forward to overnight or in downtimes during the week..

I thought they were running into hardware limitations, that it was too taxing on the system for the full ecosystem they wanted.
