Minimum skill to ride a Fire Steed?

I'm sure this info is available somewhere, but my searches were unsuccessful. Does anyone know the minimum skill a char needs to ride a fire steed? The char wouldn't need to constantly control it (just the occasional "follow me", it would be for aesthetics, not fighting. Thank you.

I would guess if you had around 90 taming and you could get ownership to transfer,
you could ride. And with new patch, cant go wild while riding.
I wouldn't give it any commands tho, unless I was jeweled up.
Greater dragons control level is a "7" and this guys level is 8.
So I Hope this gives you at least a little of the info you were requesting.

Fire Steed

Rating: **
Control level: 8
Advantages: Looks great; Pack instincts and two Fire Steeds do a lot of damage.
Disadvantages: Very hard to tame; There are better ride-able pets at this control level.
Notes:

  • Requires above 106 Animal Taming to tame.
  • Often tamed just for the rights to say so.
  • Considering the high level of control needed you will likely have better pets before you can even control this one.

I'm sorry, but they changed that some time ago. Basically it now comes down to 'can't tame, can't own'. It doesn't matter whether it's real skill or jewels etc, but you will need 106.

I haven't seen any dev clarification about the pets going wild with players mounted thing. I know it was changed recently, but I wouldn't take this as a certainty that your pet *can't* go wild underneath you if you haven't got the necessary control skill.

Petra's right though, you'd need 106 skill at least. At 106/106 that gives you 70% control, which is much weaker than it sounds, so you might find you need more. Even at around 85% control I find pets can be stroppy as heck, so it would be safer to carry skill items to take you to 110 skill so you can safely command the steed as required.

The easiest option is to play around with this page - select control chance, pop in the skill level you're thinking of and click "go" - then you can change the figures up and down to see what suits you best and see how it will affect your control.

Awesome, thank you everyone for the info. My dad asked about having one of his non-tamer characters riding a fire steed, and as I feared, its too much skill to devote just to ride one around.
