Might not run for Britain Governor again

Good people of Siege,

I strongly considering not running for another term as Governor of Britain. I don't really think I've done a good job of it anyway, but mostly I just don't think I can keep up with the Britain treasury. The two million a week cost is killing me. I'm either doing trade runs during all of my playing time to try to keep up or I'm donating my own funds to keep it going and I just don't think I can keep it up anymore.

I'm not looking for sympathy or anything like that, just trying to explain why I'm thinking about dropping out of the Britain Governorship.

Perhaps there's someone else on Siege that can do a better job at it than me.

Two million a week to keep up the trade deals on Siege is just too steep a cost.

Thanks,

Starcon

If you like the governorship itself and the RP that goes with it you should stay. Forget about the trade deal and do it for the RP and fun.
Keeping the stone filled with gold is not what makes or breaks a good Governor imo.

I stepped down from the Yew position last term because I couldn´t commit the time to it that I thought I would. I couldn´t have cared less if the stone had run out of funds.
The trade deal is not what makes the Governorship. It´s a nice bonus to have but that´s about it.

There are more trade deal options than there are cities, but of them all only a few interest most people on Siege. Thus, different cities will choose the same trade deals, and then struggle to maintain a game mechanic that few of their citizens use or appreciate enough to help maintain. There is this belief that a city without a trade deal is somehow a failure.

Forget about the trade deal for a while. Just enjoy the game. I enjoy it far more when governors attend the monthly meeting (or send a representative, or at least drop a written report to the EM's mailbox before the meeting). I'd love to see more RP in the cities, and for the governors to take up the standing offer of 2 requests per term from the EM. A governor that does those things is more likely to attract citizens that are willing to help with a trade deal - if they want one.

If none of these things are fun to you, then step down. But if any of that sounds interesting, then I say stay in office and do what is enjoyable. If some one thinks they can do a better job, they can always run against you. The game is for fun, not stress and work.

I am waiting to ask a single question/request at the Monday's evening Dev M&G, on Legends, before Kimi put her hat back in for Moonglow. Depends on the answer I get to it if I will run for Glow or not unless another has nominated him or her self. If there is another nomination for moonglow already then Kimi will vote for that person. I will be checking the stone before and after the M&G.

What do you mean?
In the past several cities were running the FC1 or SDI etc.
Why have 2 or 3 towns running the same trade deal?
If they want to run a duplicate - fine, but it is kind of a waste.
I'd like to see governors work together to build up their treasuries and alternate running trade deals.
But I doubt THAT will happen!

One of the reasons I have MR2 at glow was the repeat of FC1 & SDI

Hmm.
I would love to see the governorship be about far more than trade deals -as, I'm sure, would everyone who has ever held the role.
The trade deal could be handled by means of a voting system. There is no need for a governor.
A simple way to do it would be, everyone can vote for the trade deal in every town.
Citizens of that town get a free vote, everyone else pays something towards maintaining the trade deal.
The strength of the trade deal perk depends on how many people voted. As people run trades between towns, that perk can grow in strength.
Who needs a governor for that?

A governor should truly govern. Early write-ups, and later interviews, about UO described this marvellous, inter-dependant ecosystem.
Bring some of that in. If the governor does the right things (whatever those might be), there are repercussions - good and bad.

But it truly does get boring being part of a gold sink before long.

Personally I like what Morgan Ironfist does in New Magincia, he runs a constant trade deal on swing speed. Maybe a 6 month sticky on top, on what city carries certain deals for the next 6 months. Then hopefully people will know where to go for what deal and know it's solid. Then people can move citizenship accordinly to what deals they desire. Then maybe follow through with donations.

Why would I take a week to drop citizen role and do ingot drop in another city to gain loyalties, plus pay gold to a trade deal that might not be there in a week?

Example: A 6 month sticky up at top, with New Magincia, ran by G. Morgan Ironfist, has ss deal in place always for the next 6 months.

Nothing but lov,

Town citizens should have access to every Trade Deal Buff in their context menu, we shouldn't have to rely on whatever the Gov Flavor of the Month sets a specific town to...imo. Some are going to say, "well whatever buff is running in town is what prompts players to join that town", no Governors are elected FIRST, then the buff is set. I also think citizen names should be listed on the town stone. As a player of Siege I want to see and know the other people voting and taking advantage of Governorships. Too long have we allowed people to "call in " votes, to fill a seat. Just because you donated 50k boards doesn't give your "friend on another shard" the right to vote in a Siege election....again...imo.

while I agree that players should be able to choose the town buff they need from a list I doubt that the devs will change the system any time soon.

so we'll have to come to terms with the way it is now. many people have said that keeping a trade deal up is not the first priority of a governor.

I believe it is! the town buff is the major reason for people to join a town and they build their suits and templates around that town buff! without the 5 ssi town buff I wouldn't be able to play my templates effectively and I am glad that new magincia has a governor who has kept this trade deal up ever since he assumed power.

On the other hand I have experienced the opposite: for example many of my alliance were citizens of Vesper for the fc1 trade deal. When Victim stepped down as governor we had Lara run for gov but Spyderbite with the votes of GIL won the election - no big deal had he continued the trade deal - but he didn't! all of a sudden the trade deal was turned off and all my alliance members who relied on the fc1 buff had to renounce citizenship and wait a week to get the buff to be able to play their templates effectively.

So please if you plan to be a governor make sure you can keep the trade deal up! If you can't then please let a guild or alliance run the town who have the money to do so and choose some other town to roleplay a governor without a trade deal.

I have a quick question on "town buffs". Can a red get them on Siege?

And this is the biggest flaw in the system imo. The citizens show loyalty to their Governor. Until the funds run out...
I think they should keep it strictly RP and remove the town buffs. It´s a nice gold sink but that´s about it.

So, I saw that Vesper didn't have a candidate a day or so before the time was to run out and put Possum on the stone just in case. Possum is now the Governor of Vesper, if there are any citizens left that want to help fill the coffers I will put some of my money in and run trade orders to help keep it going. Let me know if you want a trade deal and which one you would like. I have a little more time to play in the winter so I will make as many of the meetings as possible. Rock on Siege!!

since they're not gonna change that any time soon I would suggest everyone running for governor think twice where they run and who they're running against. If you're running against a gov who has been able to fund his town's trade deal 100% of the time then please only then should you run against him/her when you are 100% sure you will be able to keep the trade deal up at 100% of the time.

Hugibear was gov of Britain and kept the trade deal funded - as a matter of fact he even had a surplus in the treasury when he was voted out by Starcon. Starcon directed much of his online time to funding the trade deal and kept it running, although towards the end his funds seemed to have dropped (but never below the 2 mil mark afaik). Now he is honest enough to tell people that he thinks he might not be able to do this anymore. I appreciate such honesty and I am sure the people who use the Britain fc1 trade deal would like to help him when needed. I know most of my alliance and guildmates will vote for Starcon again because they realized that while he found it hard he kept the trade deal up.

Vesper was an example where things went south with the new governor. No trade deal for about 90% of the time, sometimes not even when the funds were there because peolpe had done trade runs to support it. In the end people just left and Spyderbite had an empty town to represent at the governor meetings - I don't think he realized that though. What struck me as odd here was that Spyderbite won the election with the votes of GIL who outvoted the VICE alliance. Now you would think that those GIL are actually enough people to do trade runs for Vesper to keep this trade deal funded...turns out they weren't or didn't feel like it... too bad.
