I did the same thing the day before last on one character so yesturday I missed out with him 
. Its dumb the way its set up, should be able to get the prize and then do it again 
. Or maybe I need to pay attention better and get my prize the day that I do it lol. Oh well, at least it was only done with one character I guess.

There is something screwy with the quest though. I have one character that I have been able to only do it 3 times, all my other characters have done it 4 & 5 times. He keeps giving the message from Geoff that "You can only do the Quest once a Day.... bla bla" but he has not done the quest since Tuesday pm (Did Sun early Mon am around 1am EST, Mon Pm, then Tuesday late morning)!.... so you tell me, some characters it has let the chara do it 5x's then there is him, stuck @ 3. Go figure, but I don't really care since I don't plan on winning anyways.

Hmm... strange. I haven't had any problems so far on any of my toons. Are you also looting the box after you talk to the guy Snakeman?
Have you tried claiming something from the chest before you attempt to get the quest again?

that bites. that hasnt happened to me yet but i havent had the time to do the quest that much. i have ran into another issue tho ...
i did the 3rd part of the quest with maybe 7 or 8 dif chars so far and all the sudden when i try to do it, i get a message telling me i must be standing on the correct spot, or something to that effect. well, i AM standing on the exact same spot i stood on when i poured the ink on the lantern 7 or 8 times b4. so i'm thinking theres gotta be some other spot i need to go to instead or something. and so far i have found 2 other spots which both tell me the same thing. havin trouble figuring this one out. can anyone help?

Are you at the actual spot the house will be placed? In the beginning, I know you could be at any of the nodes to test your ink. But maybe that was changed with the small patch we had. I have always tested at the plot location and it has always worked for me.

i have been going to the altar just below the silver sapling where you get the rez seed. i poured the ink over the lantern each time standing on that little altar between the fire spawn and the pixies/wisp spawn. i didnt know of any other spots at all til i went wandering around. but i have seen no actual 'plot' anywhere.

thank you! that was it. i feel like an idiot. man if i had any sense maybe i would have just followed the steady stream of ppl going there, which for some reason i hadnt noticed b4. anyway, thx a bunch!
guess you didnt read my post. The problem is when you dont claim something from the chest before attempting to do the quest again. once you get that message then it is too late for that day, which it was for me.
as the guy in post #2 says it should let you finish that quest from the day before and let you do the quest for that new day.

Yep, happened to me also. You should be able to the quest, even if you didn't take the gift.I did it again !!!!!! forgot to get my housing quest reward for yesterday. now i got this message again and cannot do the quest today!!!
Ok I re-read your post. It read (to me) like you stopped trying at the quest point you have in the picture. So it would appear you were stuck at that point. You did not say you got the chest item and tried again... then failed to get a new quest. Please be more thorough in your explanation.
If that is the case I agree with you.
From the Herald:
"Parts two and three may be repeated daily"
From the NPC dialouge:
"(OOC: You have one chance per day per character to win until the contest is over)"
At this point the argument is deciding when the quest has ended. It seems the quest isn't finished until after you talk to the npc again (above dialogue). Repeating a quest means doing it again and again start to finish. Since you did not finish the quest until the next day, then you can not repeat it until the following day (see the once/day rule). So you shouldn't have to get the reward... just talk to the NPC again after you use the ink.
However (I think) you get a message that the quest is complete when you use the ink on the lamp. So you shouldn't have to do anything else to get the quest again the next day.
So yes it should be fixed. The devs should remove the quest is complete dialogue after you use the ink on the lamp.
Most houses will likely be given away by the end of the day Monday so it should be fixed quickly.
