The EC can't access the login server at all right now, while the CC shows only TC1 currently active.
Would be nice if EC users could at least play on TC1.

I love the classic client. Then again, I think driving a stick shift is fun!

Wait a second... there are people who know how to drive stick that actually prefer automatic?
Automatic is a functionality downgrade.
I still use the CC on my little itty bitty note book but I've gotten so used to the other interface that I stumble a lot while getting reacquainted with it where as it used to be the other way around.
Both my vehicles are actually stick but automatics have gotten really good in the last ten years.
Especially those fancy dual clutch ones with paddle shifters that let you select gears like a manual.
If ever a day comes that I can get a new car it will be an automatic. But I'd probably blow the dough on a new bike instead

Huh... sorry, just can't understand why you'd prefer automatic.
I prefer the feeling of greater control over my car's acceleration.
That and I've been mortified by some automatics with transmission problems that were reduced to almost no acceleration.

Add in that an automatic is just so dull to drive..
Don't get me wrong, older automatics left much to be desired and manual was the only way to go (especially if you live in an area full of beautiful twisty ribbons of road) but they got better recently.
As I get older I like not having to row throgh the gears all the time. It's nice to be able to hold a cup of coffee or a cig while driving in town traffic.
I never knew this about myself until just recently when the boss got me an automatic truck to drive at work.
Before then I only knew stick. I sorta had to learn how to drive an automatic and stop freaking out when my left foot couldn't find the clutch
I've been seeing more & more often lately new cars with automatics that let you shift manually so you can still fly like a bat out of hell in the rural, twisty areas then go full auto for town duty.
Best of both worlds.

I like manual transmissions, however as one poster stated, it's lots easier in traffic to have a cup of coffee and a smoke as you drive when you have an auto-magic. Also in a lot of the newer cars (unlike 20 years or so ago), manual trannys may not get better mileage and in some cases are less economical than auto.
I don't have a problem laying a small patch in a Dodge Neon automatic with >138K miles on it. Hole shot, no stones or anything ... plain pavement. I also get about 32-35 MPG on the puppy.

when very young, foolish, and a bit drunk.... mad at boyfriend, hop into the 69 Firebird, scream out onto Rt 53 and did something I did not even know was possible.... slammed foot down on the heavy duty clutch and in that split second thought that he deserved to have his car broken so really tromped on the gas pedal (did I mention I was angry.. and the beer?) let the clutch up and slammed it into second

Why is TC1 so laggy? Is it just because of the number of players? I hope so. I can't remember if it is always laggy or not.

Reckon you didn't get the memo. They got tired of folks hollering for a Classic Shard so they have done away with all the other shards for 2 weeks to show us just how bad it can be, figuring that will stop the asking for a Classic one.

Wanna turn heads... put a tuning chip on a Dodge Ram Cummins Turbo Diesel and set it for max performance. It's possible to smoke tires in 2-3 gears with an auto trans. Mine still is under warranty, so no chips just yet.
Kulder, my brother in-law had a Chevy deuce '66 that he dropped a drag strip engine into, big block with 650 HP gas guzzler. He had to cut the sheet metal around the engine housing just to get it to fit. I road with him in it ONCE. Some things are just stupid.
hehe, I dunno, I am plenty old. I have an IV for caffeine (no!) & I quit smoking years ago, so that isn't an issue for me.

For the last three months our engineering team in concert with EA World Wide IT, and the Net Engineering group have been working on upgrading our character databases and warehouse (read that "Housing") as well as login server applications to a new version of Oracle.
What does this mean to you?
It means a more consistent and predictable infrastructure. More simply? Account age, housing information, and the backup process for user data will be on a more stable platform.

I don't understand why mapper is scared to log in and now im freaking out as i have just returned after 3 years, came back to find my house was bugged and still there as i left it, will i find an empty plot and all my belongings strewn......arggg the pain is too muchNoooo!
I'm still scared I'll log in and all my houses will be in decay.
I don't have a left foot!

Hmm, no hourly update for this EC fix? Dont forget that UO is played internationally and though it may be the wee hours in the US, there are people like me that are still waiting!We're looking into this currently, the Herald will be updated when it is available.
