I don't usually use third party programs. The only one that I ever used on a regular basis was UOAM but haven't in years. So today I decided to take a look at the new mapper program. I was VERY surprized to see a new uopro app. I thought that department announced years ago that they were not going to approve any more. So it came as a bit of a surprize. I figured it had to be a good app if they approved it. HOWEVER!!!! when downloading it my trusty virus protectors (I use 2 of them) caulght this after downloading it. I have not opened up the program yet because anything that says it can harm my computer I take heed. Is there any explaination why I should be getting this warning??

Your antivirus has never heard of the EXE, and thinks "oh hey, i've never heard of this, it might be a virus". So its just giving you a warning.

I've downloaded MANY .exe programs on this computer and I have never gotten any warnings before like this. My computer automatically scans all .exe programs and if it happends not to, I do it myself. Has anyone else gotten this warning?

I just did a manuel scan and it comes up ok. I think it gives the warning because fewer than 50 norton users have downloaded it. Norton does give it a good trust rateing.

that's the IE, this browser consider everything as "dangerous" if has no digital signature.

Basically noone that makes program for free has a digital signature... also if you have a digital signature IE recognize the software as "not microsoft verified and can be dangerous" ...

In short, use a good antivirus on the downloaded files before run them and you are always good, don't listen to IE :D

Another note, using 2 antivirus is more harmful than having a virus running in your computer, since they burn down 80% of your computer resources... :D

wow.. instead of making a thread you could have just read the previous thread that is being supported by the person who developed the program.

Norton is garbage, uninstall that crap.

There's a 5 page thread devoted to Ultima Mapper. The posts about the false positive anti-virus warning are in the first 25 posts.

This is not a notification of a virus, merely a notification that the program is 'not commonly downloaded'. Since it's a new program, not published by a major software manufacturer and aimed at a very specific niche market that's hardly a surprise. Please don't make mountains out of molehills.

i have nothing of importance to add to this thread, but instead i find that im compelled to post at least SOMETHING to show that i was here and that i, being a caring individual, care and feel for the OP and for this topic..... but i dont really.

i just feel the need to type and talk and my wife and kids are busy, so hence here i am rambling on.

*sigh*
