Making an ABC tamer

Im gonna have some questions when Im done with training... there's so many different variations of this template it's hard to find anything that's concrete. I'm coming back from a long break so i'm not familiar with the gear/strats. I just know i want to run a tamer/archer

I'm going to run a tamer with these skills:

120 tactics
120 lore
120 taming
120 archery
120 bushido
120 chivalry

Couple of questions though...

Is it worth it to put Vet or Anatomy in there? If not - what's the strat on healing your pet with no vet?

What are the ideal base stats without jewels ?

I'm assuming the pet i choose would have an impact on the first question, i plan on using a cu sidhe

thanks in advance :)

The 120 Bush is overkill. You need 50.0 Bushido to activate Perfection with Honor, and to use Double Shot/Armor Pierce with a Yumi. You can lower the Bush and add Vet to heal your pet, swapping to some +Vet jewelry if you need to rez your pet. Your own self healing is going to be reliant upon Life Leech on wep, Close Wounds, and Confidence. If running Consume Damage on your pet, you can sustain that with Mana Leech on your bow, but spamming Special Moves at the same time will dip into your Mana pool.

My Archer Tamer template:

120 Archery (+20 headdress)
115 Taming
115 Lore
105 Chivalry (+15 Gloves)
100 Anatomy (+20 jewelry)
95 Healing (+15 Legs)
80 Vet
80 Tactics (+20 jewelry)

I've tried the no healing no vet, but I just can't figure it out. I think healing is a super outdated skill and wish it was better, but I just cant get enough damage to make life leech from my bows work, especially if i'm the one targeted rather than my pet.

Healing your pet options: chiv spell close wounds or using taming primer consume damage.

I use mostly Cu's, its nice to be able to jump on them to run away when getting overwhelmed, and I also appreciate that they will attempt to heal me. Healing the pet depends on how difficult of a target(s) you're dealing with. Although Cu's have healing skill if its a difficult mob and you're not running consume, they can't keep themselves alive with just healing themselves. I can run consume for a decent amount of time, but as mentioned above you can't maintain consume and special moves.

I agree with PlayerSkillFTW, no need for all that bush, i'd bring it down and add vet (or healing). If you pet dies and you can't res it, it sucks, now you're just a mediocre archer and have to get to the stables for a res, or carry an Elixir of Rebirth (which have the same cooldown time as the stables which is annoying).

I don't know what that is so probably not..

ok i agree with you all, and i already have 120 vet on this character so i'd like to use it. Yes i am sure what i posted is outdated, i started in 1999 lol
What shard do you play on?

if money isn't an issue, you can get cameos for slayers.
120 archery (20 from headdress)
60 tactics
60 chiv
115 taming
115 lore
90 vet
50 bush
this leaves 130 points. putting it into anat and tactics isn't bad, or resist. or necro and SS for more mana
if you have the soul stones, all wouldn't be bad

this most closely resembles what i think i want to do. i like the idea of both healing and vet, but i would really like to squeeze in the 50 bushido to use that skill. is there a way to do that with this template? i dunno what i'd sacrifice

thanks all for the responses im starting to get it..

At this moment my character has these skills:

120 anatomy
120 lore
120 taming
120 archery
25.5 bushido
96.8 chivalry
116.3 tactics

but im just in the middle of training him, i had archery and anatomy on stones already and this was my tamer, he was a peacemaking/music tamer so i put those on stones

i was doing a tammer archer that i put in hold for now. With the high end artifacts available you could run the following template:

120 anatomy
120 tactics
120 archery
120 animal taming
120 animal lore
080 chivalry
080 bushido
100 healing

i think its one of the best options out there, i will run with animal taming mastery to beef up/heal your pet. You will not have veterinary available in combat, or you can have it in a Soulstone and trade it for healing.

To achieve this you need:
Hunter's headress
Holy warrior gloves
Serpent skin quiver
Azarok's leggings
Sentinel's Mempo
Balron bone armor
corrupted paladin vambraces
Slayer talisman with 20di and 10 hci
10 HCI earrings
Shanty waders boots
Ozymandias Obi
ring/bracelet with at leas 25di, 10 ssi and 3 mods for skill points, 15 + 15 + 9, summing up as 78 skills from both jewelry.

It is a tigh template and you have to put things on a spreadsheet to make sure your planning is right.

Mine looks like this, No Bushido. With a pet I don't see the need for it.

I could take Player skills advice and trade Focus for Bushido, I'd have the 50.

The focus lets me run consume.

Difficult to get 150 Str and have any Mana Regen.

Remember, Empowerment/Consume Damage only functions against Physical Damage. It does nothing to absorb elemental damage, and your pet will not get a HPR buff from elemental damage then. That's one of the reasons i still advise to have some Veterinary skill.

OK, ive decided to ditch the bushido. It's much more important to me to have healing/vet both

what gloves have 15 chivalry on them?

Having 80 bushido with 120 archery gives you a 5 mana cost reduction on weapon specials also. Just a tidbit of info.
And here are the gloves with +15 chiv.

What are your tactics for healing yourself? Or dealing with when the mob attacks you instead of your pet? Run away and chiv heal?

He stays back. Chiv healing for himself.

Or hop on his bear and go further back.
