I wasn't in game (or on Stratics) hardly at all during the time of the many changes being made in Magincia. I went by there tonight and was surprised at how many vacant vendor stalls there are. Is there a problem that's keeping players from using that area to sell their wares? Or are players just addicted to Luna and reluctant to switch? I'd like to know, since I was thinking about eventually renting a stall in Magincia.

Part of the issue is not everyone wants to pay the additional $10 or so to have the ability to place one.

New Magincia vendors are riddled with bugs and high upkeep costs. It can be rewarding if you set it up properly and can deal with the bugs but most people find them too much of a hassle for too little benefit.

There is a 5% charge each week on all the stuff you have for sale. This means if you stock a variety of items for your customers to choose from in useful quantities, the weekly 5% fee on everything that doesn't sell, on top of the 5% fee on everything that does sell, eats your shops gold balance away.

Buy stuff using the bazaar vendor and do your selling using a Luna Vendor, it's cheaper.

Thanks so much for the explanations. I guess I'll wait and see what they do in the future to improve the system in Magincia.

I see a lot of people selling pets through them, but not much else.

It's friggin' highway robbery. The fees involved with renting those stalls and selling your goods is absurd. I started one and pulled it down after two days...

Poor implementation of a "system" they spent god knows how many man hours developing.

This.

Also, High Seas pirate hunting and stuff is a giant money-loser. You never see people on here talking about it.

Also, Charybdis, the boss nobody does and most people have never heard of, because it's a giant pain to summon and doesn't drop anything compelling.

This dev team doesn't seem to like making anything worth your while. It's always some tedious time/gold sink.

My friend used one to sell some pets. There were 15+ open plots and had to wait a week to see if he was the high bidder...

I never used em myself. I do see possible merit in the system, but there is work to do be done there.

There is roughly 4.2% fee on a regular vendor per week, so the weekly fee increase of .8% doesn't bother me.

The 5% commission on buying or selling items, now that is the killer for most.

There is money to be made with these commodity vendors.
Stocking them is easier than a regular vendor (not sure if that makes up for the commissions but it certainly makes up for the .8% vendor fee weekly increase)
But it is not set it up and rake in the cash like most people thought.
It is not for the feint of heart fly by night vendor person.
You have to really know what you are doing and have a decent business model if you want to set one up. You have to understand mark-ups and profit margins and market demand and lead-loss sales and etc. (in addition to learning about the bugs, usually the hard way)

I suggest to most, instead of setting up your own commodity vendor, sell directly to them and you don't have to worry about fees or vendors or stocking or whatever. Quick cash. I have had people approach me and say, "Tully I would love to sell you this item but I think your prices are too low." Then we work something out...making it more like a co-op than an individual business. I adjust the prices to a fair buy and sell price and we see how it goes.

Just some thoughts.

There were so many open stalls I couldn't decide which one to bid on.... after bidding well having to wait wasn't worth it I could sell the dragon faster just spamming in game.

Also no one tends any plants in Magincia anymore... Why? Too much work too much effort... so little to gain.

Who wants to tend that plant all the time when you have a plant box where you can put seeds in and forget it for several days.

I will say that most people don't seem to have any real idea of what to do with their Magincia vendors. They just offer to buy things for half of what they're worth, sell things for twice what they're worth, and figure if they leave this up long enough then somehow they'll make money.

I loved the original concept. I rather wish they had kept it simple and just placed vendor rental deeds instead of creating the more convoluted system that is in place now.

I never really understood why there needs to be over 50 vendor stalls. Most of which are empty (Atlantic excluded of course).

I would have liked to see somethings like an EM headquarters and rewards hall with a customizable garden (by players), or a large flea market with one of every NPC vendors in a small area.

Or even let the players work with their own EMs to create a New Magincia that looks different on every shard.

As others have mentioned, the commissions and fees really kill someone's incentive to have one of these, as well as the delay when you first get started with setting one up while you wait to find out if you successfully bid on a spot (while 80% of the surrounding spots are empty and have always been empty). Also, some people may be under the mistaken impression you have to upgrade with one of the theme packs to actually buy from a bazaar vendor. You only need to upgrade to run one of the vendors.

I have two pet vendor stalls on Siege. One sells pets that don't require taming and the other one currently sells battle chicken lizards (if it isn't empty by now, which is highly doubtful). At this point, any profit I could have made off the critters is ancient lost history, long ago eaten up by fees. I just leave the stalls up as a convenience for the reds and newcomers and the rare person who wants a colorful battle chicken lizard with so-so stats. One of these days maybe I'll get industrious again and put some golems on one or the other of them.

A few other folks have pet stalls on Siege and there are also some selling AND buying commodities. If you're curious how the one that sells and buys imbuing resources is doing, just log on Siege and ask for the person that runs the Sam's Club vendor to chat with you a bit. He's on almost every day and he probably wouldn't mind giving you some pointers. And if you want to go take a look at them, make a character on Siege (don't pick a paladin though or you'll end up stranded on Occlo) and use the moongate system to go to New Magincia. (If you start out in Britain, there's an out-going moongate north of the west bank, by the tinker shop.) I haven't seen a red yet that lurks by that gate, so you should be able to skip right over the grass and through the sheep and into the New Magincia guard zone with little or no danger. Then have a look at the many shops and bazaar vendors in New Magincia. Or go to the "hub" house Kelmo has set up directly east of Umbra and use the teleporter tile for the Siege Community Mall (Vlad's vendor house in New Magincia) or use the crystal portal and say "Fel Magincia Mint" to go to the New Magincia bank. The hub house is just outside the guard zone so you'll have to be a tad bit cautious there.

I have a pet vendor on Europa, but my main purpose in having it was to provide pets for non-tamers.
I couldn't tell you how much gold there is on it, I don't keep track. I just stock what sells. I paid an initial outlay of 1000gp for it and have 1000gp set aside for bidding when it expires. That is currently untouched, the stall renews for 0gp.

It's not making a fabulous amount, but it's not costing me anything either and it's providing the service I intended it for.

I know nothing about these vendors in Magincia.

Could you folks explain in graphic detail, what they are, how you get one, and how you maintain them please?

Methinks you answered your own question.

The shards' physical layouts by necessity are all the same across all servers, and the fact that the high-population server has a full-ish bunch of busy stalls suggests they didn't do too many.
