Magery and Poisoning. real skill?

Heya

I have a question thats annoying me at the moment.

I know the formula for df fields and so is magery+poison=200, the question is if its based on real points or if it works with bumped up magery points (with tome n such)?

I was looking for the answer to this myself, since everything I've read in this forum seems to imply raw skill. However, after searching the Mage forum, I found a post by someone who uses 110 magery, 80 poisoning and a chrys ring.

Just to be certain, I went over to test. I created a 105 mage with 80 poisoning, equipped a Tome to get me to 120 magery, and I was able to cast deadly poison as long as I was within the requisite 2 tiles of my target.

You can cast lvl 4 poison if you go within 2 tiles. To cast level 5 you need to evil omen them first.
