Macros Not Saving

For some reason I can't get my macros to save. Once I've logged off they just don't work anymore when i log back in. I've checked for UO-A overlaps, my char is not using incognito or the likes, and none of the macros use numbers from the keypad side of the keyboard (Num Lock shouldn't make the difference.) Anyone have similar issues or found a way to fix this?

Do you have more than one character on that shard with the same name? I think there's also been an issue before when someone puts in a space before their username or password or something like that and it messes up the macros. I forget, maybe someone else knows what i'm talking about.

Ty for the response. This character has a unique name. I only play on the one shard (Pacific) with two accounts. Is there perhaps a macro file for this character I can delete so it can allow the game to just create a new one?

"My Documents" on your desktop, then
"EA Games" then
"Ultima Online Legacy"
"User Data"
Pick which account is having the problem
Pick which shard
Pick which character

There should be a macros.txt file in that characters folder, you can just grab it and trash it (or drag to your desktop just in case). Ok there's two macro files, one is macros2d.txt which is probably the one you use if you use 2D (hah I'm smrt). So maybe just trash em both.

Well...i deleted the file and re-created my macros. Seems like the only ones that don't stay are the ones that use my "insert" "home" "page up" "delete" "End" Page Down" and right directional key. There something obvious i'm missing?

ok...as per GM's instructions, i deleted the folder for that particular character. I recreated my macros and just logged out and back in with nearly the same issues. They may actually be the same...but i have a bit more info. It's the following buttons:

Home, Page Up, End, Page Down -- along with the Right directional arrow.

In checking my macro file, it still had the macros i added saved. SoooOOo...it seems like these are all buttons that are by default used to control your character and are taking priority over user added macros.

Does anyone have macros using these buttons? Any problems when logging in/out and macros saving?

Update: nevermind...restarted client and the macros were no longer in the txt file.

Update 2: Though it may seem like it could be...making the macro txt file read-only after setting up your macros is not a good idea. (fatal errors)

The Numpad keys for macros has been broken for so long now, it is automatic for me to redo them everytime I log my tamer in, done all the tricks, delete folder redo them all etc, and still they will not save. Only seems to happen in the Classic client, EC client is fine for the Numpad keys.

Just tried this out on a character I don't play, not on my 'home' shard, and just like you I can bind a macro to the 'Home' key, which works until I log out, but on logging back in, the 'Home' key has lost that macro and gone back to the 'default' control to walk West....

I suspect there are some instructions built in to the client, that always override anything you try set as a key binding for them - I've a similar sort of issue with one character, somehow he's lost the "Alt-J makes the journal open" shortcut, and I can't seem to recreate it through macros, so I'm fairly certain some key bindings are kept elsewhere than user defined macro settings.

Edit - bah, no help to you but I did find out how to get the journal hotkeys back for my character, there's no option you can get to through the macro creation in 2d, but adding

J 0 1 0
+O p e n J o u r n a l
########

to his macros2d.txt file did the trick.... Doubt that's any help for reassigning home and arrow keys though :(

Binding macros to special keys is not very straight forward.

What you have to do is bind the macros to the corresponding keys on your numpad.

Eg, to bind a macro to "Home", in the macro screen, instead of using the "Home" key, instead, use the numeric 7 on your key pad. This works for keyboards with a numeric key pad only.

So:

pgdn = 3
home = 7
pgup = 9

However, the rest of the keys - Ins/del/end/the 4 cursor keys can't be binded this way. Much better to use them for UOA instead.

Hi, what kind of language do you use for the keyboard?
If other than english[US] you might have to change the language in windows in order to make the numpad macros save.

Ive been doing this for over 10 years.
The DEV team never uderstood this is a problem, cause they are from..... yes, US.

so i have 2 desktops and my laptop all set up on my desk at home (when im home)

and my laptop and my main computer i have never had this problem.
BUT..... couple months ago i purchased a new 'slave' computer.
brand new from dell and it has vista on it.

and for some reason i have this exact problem on it.

it dosnt matter what account i use or what toon my UO based macros are never saved.

i got so tired of remaking the macros ever time i logged in on that comp that i just gave up and now i just make them on uoassist.

i just assumed this was a Vista problem.

anyone else running vista have this problem with uo key bound macro's not working after you log out and then log back in?

I use US English. Never had it set to anything else. Running Windows 7 Professional. Computer was originally Vista 64 but upon obtaining Windows 7 I did a clean install and wiped the PC clean as it was from Dell. Actually....come to think of it...the first thing I did when i got my PC was reformat it.

Also...what have you been doing for over 10 years? Using the insert/delete keys for macros. According to another poster, there is a way to use the home/end/pu/pd keys. It's the insert and delete that may be un-customizable.

When you've made your macros, open the appropriate 'macros2d.txt'. file, then find in your ultima online 2D client folder a file called 'keynames.txt' and compare them. The key names have to match.
If I remember right, the keynames.txt file lists the number keys as 'Num 1' etc, but on my pc a macro recorded to the keypad is saved as 'NUM 1' in the 'macros2d.txt file. This causes it not to save. Change the 'keynames.txt' file.

Hello

I have had a similar problem with all my macro's using UO Assist.

I am running window's vista on one PC and the other PC is running windows XP.

The problem I am having is when I change the settings on UO Assist on either my two accounts ( on both PC's ), the settings that i have just changed are following for the/all char/chars that I log in or re-log in.

I have logged out of game and restarted the PC's after each time and still I am having problems with UO assist not saving the setttings of each Char.

I never had this fault before intil a recent publish, so i'm wondering if their is a problem with the way UO assist is saving the files, as they apear to be the same/similar( time file,
changed date ) when I check the files when saved in the directory of UO assist.

UO assist has two area's, one being the chars names and the other with the shard with the chars names, in the same directory.

The UO settings I have no problem with, it's just all my UO assist macros and key's that are not saving properly.

I am using a G11 Logitech Keyboard and I am not using the number keys, as asked above.

Help or assistance in this matter is greatly apreciated.

Thank You.

i know for UOasssist i had a problem with it doing that a year or so ago.
i talked to the fella at tugsoft and he suffested having the uoassist save character info by number inseat of by name.

and that fixed the problem for me.

also if you have toons with the same names on the same account that also solves that problem as well.

when you load uoassisnt, when it pulls up the fist screen, down in the bottom corner it hill have a little option button.
hit that.

then in there there is a little button you can toggle that will save as names, save as number.

only drawback to this is that its immpossible to just go into the files and copy macors over to a new toon.

thats cause there is no way to figure out which number is assigned to which toon.

well..... there IS a way, buts its a PAIN!

you have to modify a macro in game, then go into the file and look for the file with the most recent change to it.

anyways.
thats that.

anyone find a sollution to the UO macros not saving on some vist comps yet??

Thank you for your assistane Poo.

I found a way to fix my macro's.
I had to go into program files and delete old files and delete uo global settings.
I kept the shard and char files only.
Now when i log in, the macros are all correct for my chars, and any additions to my macro's for that char, without corupting my other chars files in the same directory.

Hope this may help someone else.

Many thanks to all the UO players for keeping the game enjoyable.
