Low Taming Options

I started playing siege perilous, and I made a tamer/mage mostly so that I could defend myself decently against monsters and pks, and be able to make money. However at 50 tame you can't get many (if any) good pets. So I was wondering what the best low level tameable would be? I have almost no gear and a diminishing bag of regs but if I can get a decent pet I will fix that. I have been working taming but it will take me a week or so of taming timber wolves, etc to get high enough to mayb get a nightmare or something along those lines. I was assuming ostards with pack instinct but I think they are around 70 taming.. not sure exactly. What I really would like is either a tank so I can use magery to kill things, or a high damage output tameable so I can make money. Any suggestions?

Yeah that is what I am doing now, I saw they have pack instinct and they do pretty good job of taking down ettins and such. I had one die earlier since I didn't bond them, I was out of regs and couldn't heal it.

Siege really is a humbling experience... I've never been so happy to find a +6 taming ring, or a 10 LRC tunic.. lol.

This page will help you find some pets in your skill range: UO Stratics - Animal Taming. Just plug in your skills and set it to sort by Taming skill (not name). It looks like you can get Lowland Bouras with your skill.

Two lowland boura if you want to be mounted, or if you don't mind walking a lowland and a highland borua. You can do some pretty strong stuff with a pair of boura really. Even help at a champ spawn or something. They are pretty tough.

That.

In the first days of SA, I started a character on siege.

The template was, 50 taming, 100 vet, 100 lore, and the intent after that was herding, magery, hiding and stealth, but I never finished it off.

But with just the taming, vet, lore and 60-ish magery, I could do some pretty spectacular things (including some SA mini-spawns) using a two lowland boura combinations.

Another early experiment was pitting my boura against tamed cu sidhe in a fight. If the cu didn't heal itself, the boura would have won those fights.

I had no idea a boura could be that tough..thanks for the advice this sounds like what I am looking for. I'm going to go tame a couple today and test them out.

PM me if you need any help getting the bouras. If your taming and lore are at least in the 50s, you'll want to go with a high plains boura and a lowland boura (assuming you don't mind being on foot).

Like everyone else says, Bouras at that level. But if or when you hit 72 tame and lore range, you can give the Giant Ice Worms a try { http://uo.stratics.com/database/view.php?db_content=hunters&id=190 }. Yeah, the hp's are kinda low, but you can run around with 5 of them. I used to run around with them all gm'd out on a necro tamer. Evil omen and their pois skill made for some fun times - prior to the sampire anyway. What was always fun to me is they actually talk back to you when you give them commands lol. And even in a pack of 5 they look like just 1. They enjoy laying on top of each other and moving in unison, until you give the all kill command. So it's kinda sneaky that way.

May not be the best around but sure as hell is fun to play around with imo :D
