Looking for the elusive plain tribarrel cactus seed

One of my alt characters has apparently been bitten by the horticulture bug. I find myself not just growing the usual plants, but wanting to cross-pollinate and create others - perhaps because spring will soon be coming?

In my research I have learned that there is one plant which cannot be created by cross-breeding - the *plain* tribarrel cactus. The only way to get one of these seeds is to get one as a drop from the monsters that drop seeds (Bog Things and Boglings primarily). It cannot be bred using the other cactus types - prickley or barrel. No, the tribarrel is unique. And you cannot create a plain plant using colored seeds, so of course, I have obtained a couple of colored tribarrel cactus seeds in my travels; but no plain seed.

Does anyone happen to have one of these? Thinking about the time it would save me trying to get one from boglings (I've already fought boglings and bog things for several days), I am actually willing to pay 10,000 gold for this one silly seed. No more than that however, as I *could* stick it out and keep killing boglings. But if you have a stack of these seeds, it would be a quick 10,000 for you for just one seed.

Any takers?

- Mariko (aka Adrianas and Camriel)

:) Well come on over, my Miranda happened to save a few of the plain tribarrel cactus seeds. I think I have only 6. I will 'give ya' 2 in case one fails to grow.

My homes are located in Zento, n/ne of town, just south of that *watering hole pond* on the ne side of, just out of town.

Any other *plain* plant seeds ya may be needing ?

Why thank you, both of you!

Dearest Queen Zen, I think I shall come by your house, considering it is sooo close to mine! (Mariko owns the house by the water that is just on the other side of the pond that lies behind you.) And here I've been stomping through Sosaria's swamps when there were seeds oh-so-much-closer than I realized!

Other than the tribarrel cactus, I have been able to easily obtain all of the other plain seeds.

lol. I think not. The 3 I have (Shalimar, Jeanne Lafitte and Pierre Lafitte) are about all I can handle. :) They are very good parrots, however, and speak quite a lot.

Eh eh - Well, Kelmo found Camriel's house (my crafter) before I could even get back in-game. Thanks for the seeds, Kelmo! [Camriel's house has a mailbox - of my 3 houses on Siege, the only one with a mailbox.]

*does the happy dance*

This gives me all of the "plain" plants - and I also have enough of the colored seeds that I should now be able to create any plant in any color available (other than the special seeds, of course). Might take a few generations, but it's do-able!

I hope someday to have a variety of plant stains available for sale - and to make plant stains "to order."

:)

I'm glad to hear that you nabbed some seeds. I went through my small stash of seeds once I heard your message in-game and could not find one. But I hope you have what you now need. Heck, I may now go seed hunting in your be-half now though.

Since some-what on the topic... where does that um... crap, what is it called again? Poppie? Farie? Dust, come from? I think I heard Sarah say it tells you what kind of seed you have?

It's one of the 'peculiar' seeds:
Fragrant and Peculiar Seeds and Plants

comes from hiryu, terrathon warriors or wisps. Only problem is, you need some poppy dust to know if you've got the right seed.
Yep. This is true. Which is why it's really easier to get all the plain plants and a few colored seeds and then start generating your own, already-identified plants. Once I get rolling with this, I will also place seeds on my vendor for cheap or free - free for all seeds except the plants that give resources (my vendors are located at the Zento GIL vendor house, dressed in white).

This all started from my personal desire to deco my three houses (I moved to Siege from Nappa about 7 months ago). I'm still growing deco plants for 2 of the houses, but now I've got that plant-growing habit! In rl I live in the south (just north of New Orleans these post-Katrina days), so we really are seeing signs of rl spring around here. Helps keep me motivated to keep growing stuff in UO. I must also confess that I've seen plants in rl and thought "I recognize that plant!" from having seen it in UO. Who says UO isn't 'educational', lol.

I picked 6 daffodils yesterday, in my top of the state of Mississippi front yard. Winter was so bad even down here, the daffodils blooming are actually about 2 wks late, here.

Spring fever is upon us and yes even I am recustomising my Siege homes this week, just to be a tad bit more spring looking, flowers everywhere, *and of course, all my parrots*

Do you go to "Gulf Wars" per chance?

For those who may not know, the "SCA" - Society of Creative Anachronism (medieval reenactors) - host a "war" every March in Mississippi, just south of Hattiesburg. 4,000 people camping 'medieval-style' for a week. It's a hoot. (The 'war' is primarily between the folks from Texas and the folks from Florida, with the rest of us becoming 'allies' of one side or the other.)

I am a rl "rapier authorization marshal" meaning I am authorized in the organization to train others how to use rl rapier swords. These blades are much heavier than what one uses in the traditional college 'fencing' class. In fact, they are heavier than the real blades were in the 15th century, but that's because we cannot afford to have one break on us - we want to "kill" our opponents, but not rl hurt them! They weigh between 2 - 3 lbs. 15th century rapiers generally weighed between 1 - 2 lbs.

Anyway. If you *do* attend this event, let me know and we will need to hook up. I will be there for the full week - March 13 - 20.

There is a lot of Mississippi we haven't even seen yet. *we are from Green Bay Wisconsin* I am but about 5 Miles south of Elvis' Graceland, in Memphis Tenn. cept we are in Mississippi !

Farthest south I have been in Miss. is a summer camp for one of my kids' some yrs. ago, Camp Garaway, near Jackson Ms. I have probably seen more of Tenn. though, & since we are right on the border of western Tn./Memphis and northern Ms. We have had to travel much of Tenn. east to west, so we've pretty much, seen a lot of Tenn. including Shilo.

Our son is into Rev. war re enactment. I have attended some of those, but most of those were held in the orig. 13 colonies, so NE USA and up at Montreal, Canada.

Attended a few civil war re enactments too, but nothing like you mentioned ever. Perhaps some YEAR, hubby will take us touring, to actually SEE, the rest of Mississippi ! Long state, I would like to see more of it, esp. the far southern parts of MS. & down by the Gulf ! :)

Our joke is that we are "kinda like the Civil War reenactors - except we never know which side is going to win at our wars!" ;)

BTW, the tag line for Gulf Wars is - "The War with No Enemies" link for it is here for any who are curious:

Gulf Wars XX

You know, the original creator of UO, Richard Garriott, was/is in the SCA. Many of his local group attend Gulf Wars. I have even met the "Shamino" of "Shamino's crossbow"! (And yes, this guy makes and sells crossbows for a living.)

And sorry, this thread has gone way OT. I will stop now. :)

I thought it was kinda scary all them guys shooting at each other in blackpwd. rifles or muskets or whatever they used for Rev. war period that my son was is active in, but I tell ya runnin around with stabby rapiers sounds even ... scarier. LOL

Only time I met that one person playin Lord British, was in game, and someone pk'd his chr. that day, so after that, um........trammel was born ! Then he left us ! :(

*sigh* I been in UO too many yrs.

When a seed drops from a bogling or bog thing, it won't be called a "tribarrel cactus" seed then, right? It has to be a "plain seed" ?

So, the only way for me to get ahold of a tribarrel cactus seed, is to get a plain seed, plant it, and when it matures there is a chance that it will be one?

Just wondering, because I spent half the day yesterday killing boglings and bog things and never got any cactus seeds, but I did get a few plain seeds.

If you do not have any, find someone who will give you/sell you some Poppy Dust - you can double click the dust and target your unknown seeds and it will re-label them with what they are! Very handy.

If you need to find your own Poppy Dust, the link about where you can get the seeds to plant to get the dust is here on UO Guide:
Poppies Dust - UOGuide, the Ultima Online encyclopedia

But if I were you, I would ask around and see if someone will give/sell you some to get you started.

Happy growing!

Thank you. =-)

I was curious where in the first place that dust came from.

I'm not really interested in becoming a gardener, I am a tad more curious about collecting one of every seed... just to well, collect. Not really going for any repeats, just one of each. Not goin' grow em. Just well... cause I'm strange, to collect.

I have been having trouble getting a hiryu / lesser hiryu to drop a exotic seed. Just a side hobbie. :)

Thank you for the feedback. :)

Terathian warrior and wisp also give the pecular cactus seeds. The plain seeds you get from boglings and bogthings give a plain cactus which are 4 barrels and a flower on them. If you have the colored ones and pollinate them to the plain seeds you get colored spider trees. Spider trees and cactus pollonited together give hops. Come by the loot house Robert and see them.
